Well.... To play devils advocate... Two half smoked packs IS weird to have if you are a smoker - so maybe one of his friends did leave a pack in his car.
However, I would bet one of those packs is his.
Maybe only when he drinks? I hid my smoking for a long time. I was really good at it.
No, but it's really, really bad for you nonetheless.
It's not terrific for you; but it's not going to kill you immediately, nor is it illegal. It's not like finding him in his room with an 8-ball and a bong.
Being disappointed I can imagine; being crushed is a bit much. Particularly if things have been a bit rough for the kid lately.

If it makes you feel better, I smoked very lightly at 18 (and yes, it was the first time I tried them). But I wasn't a smoker. I'd have them maybe once every few weeks with a small group of friends. And then I stopped. I don't smoke now and haven't since the early days of university. While I get being 'crushed', the less you make of it the better - you can let him know you are disappointed, but that you have high expectations that he will make a good choice in the future about all of this.
I just feel like shit. It drives me nuts when my kids do stupid shit.
I know. I'd probably be upset, too. But if none of his clothes smell like smoke, and his car doesn't smell like smoke, and he hasn't left the house to smoke while he's been sick, this sounds like a pretty casual thing. I know that's probably of little consolation right now, but it doesn't sound like he's a smoker, it sounds like he's tried smoking.

and yes, I saw the 'only when he drinks'.
plucks knife from heart, laughs shakily, falls to knees then face.
LOL aww Sue I'm sorry he's being dumb I really hope he snaps out of his stupidness soon.
My parents found my cigarettes at the same age. I was maybe 19. In my purse. They didn't mention it but I knew. I heard them talking. I believe they didn't mention it because they didn't want me out of the closet. Honestly, since he is an adult, and they weren't in your house, I think it as a little unfair to toss them.

Yep, I agree. I understand why you're disappointed Sue, but you would definitely know if this was a regular thing.

Lol when I saw this mentioned I said oh dear me this is not going to make sue sue feel any better at all. Sorry sue sue, everyone I was friends with tried smoking at that age (granted this was like 15-20 years ago) and none of us smoke now if it makes you feel any better?

I am pretty sure she is his bankroll right now, so essentially it is her car....
If that was my kid I would toss them. But I am mean. LOL.
I think I am going to tell DD that we have some rare genetic disorder that if we smoke cigarettes our lungs immediately explode or something like that. Think she would beleive me?
