What are your must haves for your child's collection? Making an Amazon wish list of books to buy for now and later. I loved Dr. Seuss and Berenstein Bears as a kid, but I'm out of the loop with new stuff! Looking for all age groups.
Keep in mind that they won't care about plot for awhile. Think board books, with texture and flaps, for the first 2 years or so. They have very short attention spans.
C's favorites are:
Little Blue Truck Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Cat and Dog by Matthew Van Fleet I Love to Eat and I Love to Sleep Anything Sandra Boynton Time for Bed

Little Blue Truck Little Blue Truck Leads the Way Brown Bear, Brown Bear Goodnight Moon Moo, Baa, La La La Hippos Go Berserk On the Night You Were Born Pete the Cat Wheels on the Bus Little Critter books by Mercer Mayer Peek a Who Touch & feel books
C's Amazon book list is embarrassingly long. Her current favorite books are from the "That's Not My _____" series. She loves to touch the different textures. I would say "That's Not My Dragon" is her most fave.
As a librarian, I would encourage you to get Locomotive by Brian Floca because it's the Caldecott Medal winner from your child's birth year. Other than that, get board books that you like reading out loud, picture books you enjoyed as a child and, beyond that, that your kid develop his/her own preferences.
Some authors I really like: mo willems, karma Wilson, Sandra boynton.

All of them. Kidding. But not really. A has so many books, it's bordering on ridiculous. But DH and I are both book people, so there's that.

Right now my daugher has board books. She has really been enjoying anything that has holes in the pages. For a younger baby, I really think its kind of nice to have some inexpensive books that you don't mind if they chew on and destroy.

Oh yeah, inexpensive books are KEY. DS has several books that are getting pretty beat up, we're about to replace them.
