Yeah I was utterly confused by that thread.

But I must say that we have much lower standards than many people here. We put everything together, on cold, and rarely wash sheets/towels.

After reading the whole thread, I have come to the conclusion that I might just be a dirtball*. I use 1 or 2 towels per week, change sheets every other week and wash them all once a month. I then do a load of colors and a load of whites and I am pretty much set.

*Alternatively, maybe I am just cleaner than most, because I don't feel like my clothes and such are all that dirty that they need to be washed so frequently.

I'm with you sarajoy, the only clothes I wash in their own load are exercise stuff and that's because I use different detergent.

Everything else goes in together on cold.

There is no way that we will go from 1-2 loads to 10 loads if we have a baby. I'd rather just buy it a crapton of clothes.

I wondered about that too. DH and I worked in a PAPERMILL and didn't have that much laundry. He even uses a towel with every shower and we used to shower twice a day.

Even with 2 kids we don't do 10 loads a week.

No, they are pretty big. We go through more clothes then most people though min 2 pairs of clothes, weekends 3 per day. Between 2 adults, dogs and horse laundry, I am swamped.

Umm we cloth diaper, have a small washer/dryer, and don't do ten loads a week. That being said, I just cram everything together. No separating out laundry for me!

We do laundry like you stated in your post above. Before DS we had 2 - 3 loads a week and now we have 3 - 4 loads a week. I wouldn't say DS has a ton of clothes either. I can not comprehend 10 loads of laundry per week when 4 seems like too much, lol.

No kidding. I thought our ~4 weekly loads were bad, because I know I could combine loads even more. Actually, it did prompt me to order two more sheet sets, which I'd been dragging my feet on. So now I should be able to do 3 weekly loads, plus one more monthly.
I don't think there's any way around the additional 2-3 loads of cloth diapers we'll add in a few months, even with my stash of 36 diapers.
7+ weekly loads for two people? Completely weird to me.

Laundry doesn't really take me that long. I put it in the washing machine, make dinner. Put it in the dryer, eat dinner. Fold laundry.

Though I can also wash a set of sheets with a huge load of clothes so the whole sheet load is baffling to me.

I did 2 loads today
First load was a pillow the baby spilled all over plus 1 towel and a couple shirts
Second load was 5 of my husbands undershirts and tshirts. He wore them all this weekend. And also underwear, pjs and my robe.

My washer is teeny.

I typically do a small load a day (sometimes skip sunday) because it's easier to put away with DD (who likes to grab them as I fold) in small groups. Doesn't have to do with DD's additional clothes but just what's easier to deal with having her running around when I'm trying to do it.

It's Something I learned it from my Gran who did a load every night her entire married life and never had laundry laying around or had to spend much time on it.
A small load takes me maybe 5 minutes to put away which is easier to do.

I've had this conversation with people at work. Some people wash everything if they touch it once. I don't. We do about 4 loads every 2 weeks for 2 adults. I like to think we are good for the environment.

My coworker has a wife and 2 daughters. The girls each use 2 towels a day and don't reuse them. That is a completely INSANE number of towels to wash a week and I think it is completely irresponsible environmentally to do that. They say their washer is pretty much running 24/7.

We don't do 10 loads per week and we use a new towel with every shower, workout daily, frequently wash sheets and linens, and DH can't wear his work clothes more than once without a wash.

I have no idea why some of these people do so much laundry.

I would guess we do 7-8 loads a week, with 2 adults and 2 kids. I hate laundry, but it must be done. So I do a couple of loads during the week, then the rest on the weekends. Plus a load of sheets, and a load of towels.

Doing laundry is actually exciting to me when I'm in the US because I can put so many things in at once! And the dryer doesn't take 2 hours to dry only half the load!

Agreed. Sheets go in with everything else; I have no idea why they'd need their own load.

I do sort, but only lights and darks, and I only do a load when my huge machine is crammed full. I hate doing laundry. Or, more accurately, I hate folding and putting it all away.

I wash 3 sets of sheets - ours (king), DD's and DH's. That's a lot of sheets, even for my front loader. They fill an entire load.

I wash white towels in a separate load because I bleach them to get the makeup off. I bought myself white towels because my acne cream was bleaching the colored towels.

What does horse laundry entail?

I'm glad that my pets are a self-cleaning model!

For dogs-dog beds and rags.
Horses: blankets, fly masks, saddle pads and rags.

Laundry is pretty simple chore, set it, come back to it later. Its an all day event on Sunday or after work on Thursday normally. I go ride my horses, play with dogs, fold, swap loads in between.
