@bettyhomewrecker33, how does she phrase this entitlement? Like, what does she literally say to you? I am aghast. Does she just not back down when you say that you're keeping your stuff?

H has a low grade fever and is z crying exhausted mess. Sesame Street is the only thing that stops him from crying-- we've watched it four times today. MOTY.
Confession: I have $300 with of cloth diapers sitting in a drawer. They haven't been used in like a year. Daycare won't budge on cloth diapers.
I refuse to get rid of them in hopes that 1)I start working part time in July and we can use them at home; or 2) phantom 2nd child will use them.
I also have about $200 worth of CDs sitting in a drawer. I used them for 4 days when DS was 2 weeks old and gave up. Never looked back. I keep the CDs in case of emergencies. Like, if the worldwide supply network went down after a nuclear bomb and there were no disposable diapers.
Don't laugh, we can survive at least a month without going to the grocery store.
OK guys... how long can I go without my kid knowing about children's characters? I really don't see how he'd figure out elmo at this point. Did people give you t-shirts, are they in the books you're reading, toys, did you cave on TV, playdates? Even when we let DS watch TV, he is watching CNBC or soccer or whatever we are watching. He is excited enough by that, so I don't see the need for the big guns yet.
I'm reeeeally hoping we can avoid this stuff for as long as possible, so I want to know what's a realistic ambition and also how to achieve it.
Also, what's Elmo on? Sesame Street?
DS is 2 and watches no TV, only the occasional movie when he or I are sick. The only character he recognizes is Thomas, b/c the nice ladies at the toy store gave him a free one for his birthday. He does not recognize Elmo or any other characters. So, IMHO I think you can make it awhile without LO knowing characters if you actively avoid them.

I get angry ( kinda jealous if I'm being real) when my dd gushes over something my mom says or does for her. She is kind of a crap mom, that is trying to be a good grama but not really putting in the work. Except to do these random over the top things that make my four year old gush with over the top excitement. I hate that I do this, especially since it's obvi something that makes my daughter happy.

Dd likes elmo but doesn't have any character stuff with the exception of one bathtub book that we were given. She doesn't really care when other kids wear characters on their shirts. Honestly, I don't see that many kids with character stuff in our social circle.
The screen time reminded me of a judgement. I totally judged the family who had the iPad rigged to the stroller and infant seat and were playing videos. Sorry no.

Even with some exposure (like we didn't go out of our way to avoid), I don't think either attached to a particular character until 2 (Nemo for DS, Foofa from YGG for DD). They could recognize Elmo sooner, but they were meh about him.

I'm also surprised kids DS's age know Elmo by name! The most exciting character in E's life is "busssss!" (as in, any of the city/school/shuttle buses he sees every day; he's practically starstruck over them).
Sweet. I'll aim for 3-4. I just don't want to get into a phase where I'm forced to watch the same cartoons over and over. I remember that with my nephew with Barney in the mid 90s and obviously I'm still scarred.
That was apparently me and one specific Popples video when I was about four. We would go to the video rental store every Friday night and I would get to pick my movie, and according to my mom I picked the same damn Popples video six times in a row.
DS loves characters. I don't buy lots of character clothes, but I am pretty lax on screentime & he's going on his 3 rd trip to Disney next month. He is currently obsessed with Octonots & Shellington in particular. I bought him the Octopod & it has encouraged hours of imaginative play. He even wrote a book with DHs help about Shellington discovering a new species of fish. So cute!
My child is watching Sesame Street right now so I can finish up expenses and DH is working on quotes. We also fed him french fries at a pub for dinner. We win all parenting right now.
I just tried the Cores ice cream for the first time this weekend - LOVED it!
I just finished 1/3 of the 1st one (Hazed & Confused). It was quite good. The only one I don't have in the freezer is Peanut Butter Fudge. They didn't have this at Target. I have high hopes for Karamel Sutra and Salted Caramel. I have no expectations for That's My Jam, but I had the others in my basket and figured meh, why not?

Salted Caramel is delicious!!
They didn't have that at my target Saturday I got PB fudge, which was good.
Another cloth quitter here. I will admit I was more on top of all the laundry when we used it, and now I let it pile up, probably because I don't have to reserve the machine for CDs on certain days.
Our besties are doing a 15 day juice fast. I am rolling my eyes and plan to avoid them until April

This is DS with fire trucks or ambulances. He gets super excited and yells WADOO WADOO WADOO (his fire siren sound).

And yes, Elmo is on Sesame Street.
DD started talking about Mickey Mouse and other characters we had never seen at around 2 years old. Up until then she had only watched Yo Gabba Gabba and Sesame Street. I figured that knowledge of these other characters had to have come from daycare: character stuff other kids wore, toys brought in on share day, story books, birthday party themes, halloween costumes, etc.
I just started night weaning M a few days ago, he'll be 26 months tomorrow. It's going surprisingly well, which I'm happy about. I'm not actually counting but it seems he's waking less often. He goes back to sleep with a little shushing & sometimes some back patting. I was expecting full out screaming.
I will join you with this confession. DS is 25 months and he still gets to come to our bed when he wakes in the night but I told him that milk is sleeping. I can see why this is a confession because I don't admit that we were still night nursing to many. The last person that found out we still nursed told my son to his face that it was awkward.
There is an Elmo toy at daycare, which is how C learned who he is.
C watches about half an hour of TV in the morning so H and I can get ready for work, and some on weekends because I don't think it's that big a deal and he likes it and sometimes I need a break. Whatever. He's not a soulless Elmo-bot and is completely developmentally normal.
Confession: I find most "screen time" discussions annoying. I usually find myself rolling my eyes and backing out of the post.
Aj decided to divebomb out of the high chair as I was getting him out earlier, shot past my hand, and hit the (carpeted) ground I feel horrible. He cried for 5 minutes and was fine after that, but was a bear to put down at bedtime-the first two attempts resulted in near hysterics, but a bottle before the third attempt seems to have done the trick because he's out like a light. But I called the after hours line at the pedi after the second failed bedtime attempt, and she said it sounded like he was just fine but to wake him after he'd been asleep for about 20 mins to make sure he wakes up quickly and such.
I REALLY don't want to wake him up. I will, of couse...but part of me is all "but maaaaannnnnn he finally went to sleep!" He was a bear to get down last night too b/c he was overtired, if it wasn't for his fall I'd think tonight was just a repeat of last night. So I'm sure he's fine, but will wake him up regardless in about 10 mins regardless. BUT I DON'T WANNA. Thank god I only have to wake him once, if I understood the pedi correctly.
My 11wk old is sitting in her rnp watching baby einstein.
My 17 week old has watched Peppa Pig on and off for short bursts since she was about 12 weeks. I don't feel bad about it at all. We do limit her "watching" TV, but sometimes the only way she'll let me walk away is if she's in her bouncer watching Peppa. I decided Peppa is British and therefor we're making her more interested in animals and other cultures.

Today my son tried to kill himself on the slide and i feel horrible. So he was playing on the bigger kid equipment and he ran to slide before I could climb up there with him. My friend's daughter (the same age) just went down the slide so I figured he be fine. But he got scared at the top and yelled "mommy i am falling mommy!" and I had to scramble up there, but there was no easy way for me to climb up there quickly. Meanwhile, I guess he went down the slide head first but luckily my friend was at the bottom of the slide to catch him. But he was just sobbing. I felt like a horrible mom

My kid doesn't know who Elmo is but might know who the Property Brothers and the Rehab addict are. If the TV is on it is normally HGTV. I am just not ready to give in to kids shows yet. I just barely got the tune out of my head from his dam walker, I can only imagine what will be stuck in there once he starts watching kid shows.
Wakeup attempt was a success...a quick stroke on the back of his head got him to stir and then I hightailed it the fuck out of there. Pedi said that was all I needed to do, so I've sufficiently drowned my guilt in Ben and Jerry's Half Baked and watching WWE Monday Night Raw (shaddup, wrasslin' is my #1 guilty pleasure).
I'm trying to walk a fine line between eating enough so my supply doesn't tank but limiting it enough so I can lose weight. I'm so thankful it hasn't gotten out of hand, three babies in 37 months could have been bad. But I am just so tired of being kind of chubby. I'd be thrilled if I could drop 20-25 lbs. I tried running when I was nursing DD and I swore it affected my supply but I'm hoping it was just my mind allowing me to be lazy. I plan to wean in September and we're going to Hawaii in October. I really want to not only fit into my old clothes, but look good. I have like reverse body issues. I'll think I don't look half bad in the mirror and then I'll see a photo and think wtf lol.
Speaking of clothes, I've held on to so much stuff from when I was working and I kinda feel like just getting rid of it all. It's all pretty classic - banana republic/j crew button down shirts and the like but what are the chances I'm actually ever going to wear it again? Maybe I'll just stick it in a bin in the basement. We have a pretty small closet in our room and it's silly, probably 60% of my side is stuff I haven't worn regularly in four years. I spent so much money on all of it, ugh.
