With Abby it broke as I was pushing; I'm not sure if they broke it or what.
With Caleb, it broke an hour and a half after my OB appointment, where she told me there was no progress and I wasn't going to be having this baby anytime soon. I went to the bathroom, peed, stood up and it felt like I was peeing again. Every time I stood up after that, I gushed more, all the way to the hospital.
Mine was broken during my induction to speed things along. I remember the feeling so well. So weird.
They told me that I would probably get to 10cm in 6-7 hours after that (it was around midnight). 3 hours later I was screaming "there's pressure and I feel like I have to poop! Get the doctor!" They didn't believe I was ready to push until I mentioned having to poop, lol. Then they were like "wait! Did you say you feel like you have to poop??"
That's what happened to me too - they said okay, just relax it will be a while. Then I labored hard, then I got an epi. Then they again told me to get rest it will be a while. Less than an hour later I told them I felt a lot of pressure.
I actually tried not to push like I was pooping, because I was really afraid of hemmies. I ended up getting them anyway, though. Just internal, but still. They've been with me ever since. It's going to be even worse this time. I wish she would just shoot out of me like a man out of a canon.
Desipte my fear of hemmie explosion with Adeline, I pushed my brains out and they didn't explode. But it was one push. My hemmies still got super bad. They'll give you Percocet for it.

It was cool. I woke up for the morning to go pee and boom warm water. I barely made it to the tile floor. It happened before labor though so I spent 12 hours contracting every 2-10 mins all day while trying everything to establish a more consistent labor pattern. That was kind of stressful.
I was induced with C and my OB came in to break my water and my H was asleep. My water broke and literally splashed on the floor so loud that my H jumped up out of his sleep and onto his feet. The nurse later told me that I had more amniotic fluid then she normally saw. I had u/s every other day for the last four weeks and my fluid levels were never mentioned so who knows.
I really wish I could experience the "omg! It's time" moment whether that be my water breaking spontaneously or contractions. This is why I need you pregnants to update live so I can live vicariously through you all, lol.

I had contractions leading up to it but they weren't painful. They started at 10:30pm, on our drive home from DH's birthday dinner. They were about 5 minutes apart and lasting 30seconds. We got home and I went to bed thinking they were BHs and they would go away. 30 minutes later they were still there but now 2-3 minutes apart. I walked downstairs and told DH. Then I sat in a chair and called L&D. They told me to wait until they were lasting 60 seconds to come in. As I got up off the chair I felt a pop and then a gush like Niagra falls. It was about midnight. I just stood there and started crying. I just keeping thinking it was too early. I ran to the bathroom to sit on the toilet and put on a pad. Ha. 2 minutes later another contaction, now painful and another gush of water. Totally soaked again. I kept getting gushes of water every time I contracted. On the way to the hospital I soaked through 3 large beach towels. I remember being soaked and cold. The pad was literally floating around in my pants, useless. My doula suggested I have Depends at home for next time.
My water broke Niagara Falls style both times out of the blue. With H, I stood up at a meeting at work and boom. With C, I was lying down in bed and boom. The amount of fluid was CRAZY! Like gallons of water.
who cleaned it up when you were at work?
i was always scared it'd break somewhere that someone else had to clean it up. i decided the best place would be petsmart because they have those clean up stations for dogs.
OMG lol!!! I had pants on at work, thank god, so they really absorbed a lot of the fluid. And it ran down my legs and puddled a lot in my pumps, like so bad I had to throw them out. And I literally was only in the office less than 2 min after it happened bc I ran out the door. Literally ran. I grabbed my handbag & left a half eaten yogurt on my desk. I drove myself to the hospital!!!!! Madness that day!

Copy and pasted from gisa's thread:
My water broke as I walking in the door at home after a 7am exam at med school. It was a little pop then small gushes and the gushes got bigger and bigger--it was pretty gross but no mistaking I needed to get to the hospital. My H had major knee surgery the day before and was in a full leg cast. So he layed in the back of the car while I drove myself to the hospital (only 10min away) while I sat on a towel that was soaked by the time we got there. I had SO much water and was soaking my hospital bed constantly. And to add:
I was 37+6 at the time and my OB had swept my membranes two days prior since I was scheduled for an induction at 38wks for PIH. She was hoping that would jump start my body going into labor--it worked! Before my water broke I was having really bad lower back pain which I know now was back labor (M ended up being sunnyside up).
Mine was after they gave me stuff to soften my cervix. I was having crazy contractions and then I was soaked. I told them my water broke and they were like "we just gave you the stuff. It probably didn't" Um. Yes it did. It sucked because it was full of meconium and I kept a towel between my legs. They ended up having to flush all the yuck out with saline.

I had absolutely no indication it was going to happen. I had been to the doctor earlier that day and she said she thought I would go full term. I had not had a single contraction. I was 36 weeks 2 days. At about 2:30 in the morning I woke up and turned over, as I turned over I felt a gush. Since I was early I hoped it was just pee. However, I stood up and more gushed out. I went to the bathroom and felt little gushes with each step. Very mild contractions started soon after my water breaking and got stronger as things went along. I never had a huge water explosion, but with every change in position more water would leak out.

No warning at all, but I was 40+2 when it happened so I knew labor had to be soon. However, I had no contractions or BH before that.
We were just laying down in bed for the night. I felt a weird pop so I got out of bed as fast as I could and I ran to the bathroom. I made it just in time for a flood to come out. I had to go to the hospital right away because there was meconium. Contractions didn't start until about an hour later when I was at the hospital.
I had a slow leak at 39+6 -- I got out of bed to pee in the early morning and about a cup of water came out as I was standing up. It didn't feel like pee so I got cleaned up and went in to get checked. But they didn't find any trace of it so they sent me home. It worked out well bc we were able to get a bunch of errands done that day and I went for a really long walk with DH. I went to bed and woke up MOTN to pee, and the same thing happened. This time, after about an hour contractions started and were getting increasingly painful as we slowly made our way to the hospital. G was born about 14 hours later, at exactly 40 weeks.
ETA - It had leaked but didn't finally break until I was at 8cm and the midwife checked me. Suddenly gushing everywhere and a wet mess. It instantly increased the intensity of my contractions and I don't really remember the last ~90 minutes of my labor after that point.
Mine was leaking and would gush every time I stood up. When I got out of the car to walk into the hospital it overflowed the pad and went down my pants. I was really embarrassed walking in and kept trying to pull my shirt down. Looking back who cares! I shoulda rocked my wet pants with pride.
Totally out of the blue with Holden. I ended up with PROM, though, so I didn't actually go into labor. It was a high leak, so not a huge gush, but it was good it happened since she took a dump in my ute. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premature_rupture_of_membranes) I was 38w3d.
Since it was a leak, my doctor for real broke my water during my induction. She was just there for a short while because she had some doctor conference to do, so she was in her nice clean lab coat. It sprayed all over her. When I was in labor with Sadie, I think she remembered because she had some sort of face guard when she broke it.
ETA: With Sadie, as soon as my doc broke my water, I felt the ring of fire. I'm pretty sure she would have been born in it had I pushed before the doc broke it.
Mine broke during labor. I was sitting on the edge on the hospital bed and the nurse was leaning over me doing something. It was this giant tidal wave of amniotic fluid that landed all over her shoes. She's cussed pretty loudly and then ran out of there, lol.

I started bleeding and went to the hospital. After they admitted me I thought my water broke 100000 times because there were so many gushes, I think it did just a bit, I remember it felt different and I was like oh ya def my water. Julian came out and ALL the water came pouring out after him, he was blocking it.
Mine only leaked, so I don't know if that counts. Woke up to pee around 1 am Sunday morning and felt a little gush, thought I peed myself. Had to continue to wear a pad all day. Contractions didn't start until after I did nipple stim that night around midnight. She was born Monday morning.
Eta: omg, then during one of my pushes, I popped the rest of it and it came squirting out like a geyser! So embarrassing because if my doc was down there it would have gone all over him (he had stepped away). Her head must have been so far down that it was plugging the hole.
I woke up at 6:45 am and went to the bathroom. As soon as I stood up from the toilet my water broke. I'm thankful that I had no doubt about if it was me peeing myself or not. I never had any contractions and had a c section within 2 hours since she was breech.
Mine didn't but I have no idea when my water broke because it apparently did before I got to the hospital BUT I don't recall this happening. I took a shitload of baths to deal w/ early labor - I was thinking maybe it happened in the bath? I had prodromal labor so maybe I was just so out of it I didn't notice... lol.
So I had two separate sacs of water. The one broke while I was at the hospital, right after I was admitted. My labor stalled after a while, so they checked me and found a second bag which they then broke.
Mine had a small leak and then. Big gush. I had tons of pressure the night before and had bloody show that morning with intermittent contractions. Then I went shopping and took a nap and woke up from my nap to a large gush. I didn't think it was my water, but it was! Just kept leaking a good amount.
I got ready for bed, went to the washroom and laid down. As soon as I laid down I felt like I peed a little. At first I thought nbd but then I remembered that I had gone to the washroom seconds before so maybe it wasn't pee. I got a towel and put it under me just in case. I laid back down and GUSH! I had to wrap the towel around me like a diaper to just get back to the bathroom to put a pad on. What a joke those pads were! I made DH stop at a drugstore on the way to the hospital for adult diapers (aka heaven on earth in that state). I was gushing at a rate of about 1/2 cup every 15 minutes. Your body replenishes the fluid so it just felt never ending.
With A, I woke up at 6 am to a small gush (was 38w, 4 days). I wasn't sure if it was my water because when I got up, nothing came out. I went to pee and more water came out. But again, when I stood up, there was nothing. I got back in bed and felt another small gush. I got in the shower and then was sure that it was my water as I continued to have small gushes. I never had the massive water breaking with her and was able to contain it with pads. With C, the nurse practitioner tried to break it but couldn't, so then my doctor came in and broke it. It didn't seem like all that much and it was just one big gush (or at least I didn't notice it after that). She was born less than 3 hours later!
Woke up at 3am when I was 38w3d thinking I had to pee. I ran to the toilet since it was dribbling down my leg. I was so embarrassed but when I was still on the toilet 10 minutes later, I was like "well, this must be it!" Woke up DH and called the doctor who said I could just come in when my contractions (nonexistent at the time) wear close or at 9am. Used a menstrual pad with a puppy pad to protected the mattress and ended up dozing a bit from 4-6am when the contrax woke me up. I actually never gushed and basically dribbled water through my whole labor, it felt like peeing so it was not comfortable. Water breakage did not indicate a short labor, I went 27 hours start to finish (c/s due to my rising fever and not dilating past 9cm at the end).
So I had two separate sacs of water. The one broke while I was at the hospital, right after I was admitted. My labor stalled after a while, so they checked me and found a second bag which they then broke.
I had two bags of water too! It was crazy bc my first one broke and there was so much fluid. Then when they checked me later the OB said, oh there's another bag of water and it broke when she was examining me! My ultrasounds did show a lot of water so I wasn't totally surprised. So fascinating.

Mine broke when I was pregnant with J. I woke up in the middle of the night, and as I was wondering what woke me up I heard a pop. My first thought was "uh oh, that's not good". By the time I got to the bathroom I figured out what was up. I had no warning signs at all that day.
My water broke in the middle of the night when I was 39 weeks. I woke up because I felt something wet and stood up and it was just a leak. Then every time I would take a few steps more would leak out. L was breech and I was so afraid of cord prolapse. I went right to the hospital where they discovered she was no longer breech and her turning most likely broke my water. I also had 2 bags of water and my midwife had to break the other bag when I was about 7/8cm. My labor pattern was not consistent.
