**update** The Disney store just called to tell me that they found a dress and are sending it to me!!!! I can't even explain how excited I am. Now to anxiously wait for it to actually arrive!!!
I have been stalking the Disney site, about a dozen Disney stores, and Disney World shops for an Elsa costume for the past 8 weeks. It has literally been like a part time job, trying to get one for DD's birthday this coming Sunday.
This morning they became available online. I added one to my cart, ran for my debit card, and by the time I tried to check out, it said it was unavailable. I played around with it for a few minutes, and it still said unavailable. Then I added an Anna costume just to see if it was a glitch, and it let me add the Anna, so I went back and added the Elsa and it let me check out!! I may have screamed I was so excited! But I didn't want to screw with anything so I didn't put in my discount codes that would have gotten me free shipping and 10% off my order. So now I am on hold to see if they will give them to me.
I do not want to know how many hours of my life have gone into getting this costume for DD. But she is going to lose her mind. Totally worth it!
Is Frozen completly controlling anyone elses life?
I'm trying to use the Elsa and Ana doll/dress combo as motivation to get DD potty trained. She flipped shit when we left Target without them. I've since been reminding her about them and the potty but nope, not happening. UGH! I was so sure those would work.

Where are you located? I'm about to donate the Target rolling case that had I think both Elsa and Anna. It would be really expensive to ship but if you're near Chicago they are all yours!
Well after holding for 50 minutes I was informed that my order will not be fulfilled! 'Sorry for the inconvenience, but it is sold out. Not sure why your order went through. "
I just searched for the dress on ebay and about died when I saw a buy it now price of $279. People must love their kids a whole lot more than I am going to love my not-yet-conceived offspring.
There are some options on there that are significantly cheaper, though, in case that helps.

I have been stalking the Disney site for a couple of days and no Elsa dress. I read on another board that the online inventory was released at 12am PST and was gone in 2-3 hours. My DD's birthday is in a month and all she has asked for is that dress!

my niece is obsessed with Frozen. When we were at Disney World a few weeks ago I went prepared to buy her all kinds of Frozen crap. They had a pin, a few T-shirts and Anna and Elsa dolls. WTF? not a single Olaf plush or anything. totally ridiculous. Sis and I agreed on no costume but I am sure i will try to find one online anyway. totally agree with PP that Disney blew it with merchandise. I did wait in line so she could get her photos with the princesses and that like made her year!

I stayed up until just before 2am (which would have been 12am PST) waiting for the stock to refresh. I missed my chance by 10 minutes. At 6am when I woke up, it was long gone. Bastards.
How did you know when it was going to release? I still have over a month until my dd's birthday.

Idaho - not even close! But thanks for the offer! My parents are coming in 2 weeks and my mom wanted some toy ideas to buy so I might just cave and tell her to buy it. Potty training is a lost cause, lol.
ETA: IDK if it's the 'real' stuff, but my Target has tons of Frozen dresses for little girls with and without the dolls. Maybe the mormons around here are all boycotting it. More for us!
We were at Walt Disney World all last week for DD's and Ds's birthdays. Every single shop at ALL of the parks AND. Downtown Disney were completely sold out of Elsa costumes and running low on everything else. They said they can't even unpack the merchandise because when they take a box out on the floor to restock, people grab it before it hits the shelf.
We did bump into "Elsa" coming out of a bathroom at Epcot. DD got to talk to her and sing a few lines of "Let it go" to her and we didn't even have to stand in line, so that was cool.

I post on the disboards thread. I would definitely keep checking everything night if you can around 12am PST. When they restocked the Elsa dresses in January they put some up on a certain day and they sold out within a couple hours and then they put a lot more up like 3 days later (and they lasted like 12 hours). That's when I got DD1's dress and tiara.
I ordered both Animator's collection (I'm not sure if they are officially part of the line) dolls and an Olaf plush yesterday morning. i didn't even look for anything else because I just wanted to check out and guarantee that I got them.
I had heard rumors that they would restock with the DVD release, and they got some frozen stuff in yesterday (that went immediately).
Basically this means that I have no life, and I've been following every disney type blog and twitter lately. They also discussed it on The DIS message boards.
One of the Disney store clerks told me back in January (when they were already sold out of almost everything Frozen) that they expected to get more inventory, and new things, in with the DVD release this month.
Stopped in over the weekend and managed to snag the last Olaf plush for DD2's birthday on Monday. I got lucky and landed a frilly dress with Elsa and Anna on it at TRU that wasn't there when I was in two days earlier.
But man, Disney must have put all its merchandising effort for the year into Planes or something, because they have failed miserably to keep up with the demand.
Well my DD woke me up from having a nightmare so now it is almost 3:30am and I am again stalking the Disney site... no Elsa dress! I know others have mentioned Target but that one isn't nearly as cute or nice looking. In the end I will buy whichever version is available but it is becoming like a mission for me to find this dress... and not pay ridiculous money for it. I saw one Disney version going for $550 on Amazon! I just can't believe that Disney couldn't get more stock of it. They sure have plenty of DVD's of the movie to sell!!
And I totally agree about the original preview for the movie looking meh. I remember the day it came out we chose to see that turkey/thanksgiving move instead. I could have bought out the Target Frozen collection in early November and then made a fortune on ebay this year!!
Not only did they fail with the merchandising, but they didn't do a super awesome job with the initial marketing of the movie either. We were in WDW in October and there was Frozen stuff all over, but we didn't buy anything. What we did know of the movie is it looked like a goofy snowman movie. Even when the movie came out, the previews didn't really showcase the movie well, I don't think. People went and saw the movie because it looked like a cute movie and didn't have huge expectations, and then it became this huge cult hit. So, maybe Disney really did underestimate this movie, I don't know. I feel like I heard about Planes for freaking forever.
The popularity of the princesses is really becoming an issue at the Disney parks also. Those lines to see them are insane!
I agree. I went to see the movie expecting it to be about olaf and sven based on the previews I had seen. I had no idea it was about sisters.

I bought a dress from this seller and she has an elsa dress. I thought the quality was pretty good. And she was easy to email and I got my order quickly.
2 weeks later they try to cancel my order saying they where out of stock. I called the # they provided and basically flamed them in a nice way. They where able to get back in stock in the size I needed and delivered at their expense overnight.
I have not seen them come back in stock at all. Part of me thinks they are doing this on purpose.
DD LOVES her Elsa dress though and it was totally worth the wait. The quality was really nice and I got it 25% off. It's a damm nice disney dress. I think the best one I have seen. I think I paid $45 or so for it.

Disney seems to be really conservative with their merchandising. They did this with Sofia too. They released the movie and then had zero merchandise available, and then when they did issue stuff it was in small quantities and sold out immediately. Now our Disney store is flooded with Sofia stuff and absolutely zero Frozen merchandise.
I'm kicking myself. They had tons of the plush dolls and I didn't know which one to buy for which girl - 2 Elsas, 1 of each, 2 Annas - I was sure I would make the wrong decision so I balked and waited until they could determine their preference. Which of course is 1 Elsa and 1 Anna. Ugh! But now I can't find them including at Disney World.
My H just bought this dress for DD at Target this weekend. It's not The Disney Store version that is sold out. It's pretty cheaply made and $50 for it would be robbery.

I was going to say the same thing. Don't get the eBay one. It's not the same. :N:

I totally agree. They definitely had no clue how big it would be. And I was shocked at how long the Disney princess lines were at Epcot. The line for Mickey and Minnie was about 5 minutes long (fine by us, since DS didn't want to meet the princesses anyway). I think Frozen will be a Disney classic so I would anticipate some kind of theme park ride eventually with Frozen.

The ride is Norway at Wpcot is being redesigned into a Frozen ride.
