I get kids' love of it, and I get liking it as a parent of kids. I think the OP, though, is talking about why so many non-parent adults seem to be going nuts over it, which I have also wondered. It's fine, but I didn't find it groundbreaking. I definitely enjoy Pixar films; I've seen most in theaters. Many adults enjoy them, as well, but Frozen's adult fan base is seemingly huge, and its fervor is unique.
I know no childless adult who has shown any interest. I assumed most of the $ was from families with kids, but I have no knowledge of whether my assumption is accurate.
I read some article that the fervor took Disney by surprise too, which is why the merchandise is way understocked.
We saw it with my ILs, including my two SILs (neither of which has children), their significant others, my 80 year old FIL, a couple teen nieces, my husband, DS and DD. Everyone loved it. I think the animation was stunning, the music was fun, the characters were mostly likeable, there were several laugh-out-loud parts. What's not to like? I mean, it didn't change our lives (except for my 3 year DD), but it was a very good movie.

I am a childless adult and I love the crap out of Frozen. The songs are great, the characters are great, the animation is beautiful. I had it waiting at my house the day of release

I'm not going to lie- I would have bought the soundtrack regardless of my 4 year old. I don't know if I would have seen the movie, but def would own the songs.

My family loved it. It had great animation and catchy songs. The story line was decent too. It had a nice twist from other Disney movies. I enjoyed how it captured the love between sisters.
My 3 year old reenacts the movie all the time. Maybe you would enjoy her version. lol
I liked the movie, but I also am not understanding all the hype.
Even though we bought it Saturday and I've seen it twice already. It's 17 year old BIL's and 3 year old niece's favorite movie right now.
I am sooooo tired of the Let It Go song. All the kids I know are singing it AND it's playing on the radio station my work plays. I hear it at least 5 times a day. IT CAN DIE ALREADY.
I think it's a big hit because all these young girls loving it have mothers who grew up with The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. I got a kick out of watching DD fall in love with it.

I have heard a, like, 10-15 second snippet of the song like 3 times so I don't even really know how it goes. Yay! Sometimes it's really nice to live in a kidless, radioless world I don't think I even realized that they play Disney songs on the radio. I'm just going to put it out there -- I find the singer a bit shrill. But musical theater is not my thing.
Like a month or two ago though, I swear that Frozen/Let It Go was the only thing that was discussed on ML. That was odd to me.
I thought it was great but I agree, it did not really live up to the hype for me. But by this point it has a LOT of hype so I think if you are just seeing it now, its going to be a let down (I just saw it two weeks ago).
I am out of the loop with Disney movies so I have no idea how it compares to Brave, Tangled, etc. I guess sometimes certain movies just click with the public more than others.

I agree with the bolded. The music is very musical theater-y and I strongly dislike musical theater.
I haven't seen it yet b/c my parents took DD to see it in the theatre. She's getting it for Easter. She talks about it nonstop and sings Let it Go word for word. She did say this morning that Anna died. Is that true? She said she gets knocked down and doesn't get up. But she's 3 and doesn't know what "died" really means unless we're talking about batteries to a toy.
I have a 6 year old daughter so it is a big deal in our house! The previews for it were meh so when we 1st saw it in the theatre I had pretty low expectations. I am not an overly emotional person but I must admit the 1st time we saw/heard "Let it Go" I thought it was awesome! I don't think the Frozen story is as good as some of the others. Certainly the Pixar movies to me are still more watchable. I think the music/songs in Frozen is the best Disney has done in a long time, some of the graphics and scenery were really good and overall the characters were just a marketing gold mine. I am kicking myself for not buying up all of Target Frozen crap back in November last year. I could have made a fortune on ebay!

No, she doesn't die. Although the parents die, as in just about all Disney movies.
I love Frozen! I'm sure I wouldn't have paid any attention if not for my nieces. We happened to go to Disneyland at the height of their Frozen-mania. But I think it's a wonderful story with beautiful animation and some really great songs.

When ML was going crazy for the song was right about the time the movie came out. I recall a poster saying that she was listening to it on repeat all day. I'm there...but not by choice. I want to rip my ears out when I hear the same song over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Did I say over?
"Let It Go," I really want to let you go and never hear you again.
The music was done by the couple who wrote Avenue Q and Book of Mormon. So, pretty high/funny musical quality.
actually it was just the husband who did Avenue Q and B of Mormon. He is also a former lawyer so whenever we discuss what non-law jobs lawyers can do, we can add composer to the list. :-)
I think I prefer (and have watched more times) Frozen over Tangled and Brave. Love all three, but repeat watchability for me Frozen wins. I'm glad Disney has had success with these latest princess movies and hope they will continue to produce more. Don't get me wrong, I love Pixar stuff but I like alternatives to that too that are more "traditional" Disney fare. Poor Princess and the Frog gets no love and that was a great movie too. Robin Hood is hands down my all time favorite though.
HATE HATE HATE the Tinkerbell movies. I would rather watch Cars 3 a million times over than the stupid Pixie Hollow stuff.

I also didn't realize until recently that it's apparently being played on (pop?) radio. *Puts on hipster glasses* But I only ever listen to KUOW (NPR affiliate) or KEXP (independent/non-commercial) anyway.
