DD will be 7 months next week. Would you offer puffs at this age? I don't know why I am freaking out over giving her puffs. I gave her a mum-mum the other day and she did gag a bit, but I felt better about the mum-mum because it's much bigger and she couldn't fit the whole thing in her mouth.
I also use the mesh feeders for bananas and avocados. I know plenty of people do BLW at this age but the idea of table foods still freaks me out but I know she'll get table foods at some point. I'm pretty much going to be serving DD purees until she starts college, right?
On the bottle, it says the baby should be crawling with her belly off the floor. Is your DD doing that? If not, I'd wait.
I feed DD small chunks of really steamed sweet potato and butternut squash. She eats it off my finger and likes it. It took her a minute to figure out the different texture. Maybe you could try that? I'm also hesitant to just give her a stick of sweet potato to feed herself, but this is working for us right now. She's also not really interested in feeding herself yet.
Yikes if we had gone by crawling, DD would have never gotten any food because she was so late with her gross motor skills! Her physical therapist recommended Cheerios to help her pincer grasp (she was in b23 at this point) and while she was very stable sitting unassisted she couldn't move by herself nevermind crawl.
We're going to hit some yard sales in the next few weeks to look for outdoor toys. (Cozy coupe, little slide, etc). Any reason NOT to buy these things used?
If you BF and had a new baby soon after you weaned, did your older child remember nursing and want to nurse? X will be weaned before he's 1 it's looking like. He'll be 15 months when the new baby comes. H asked me if X will remember nursing and want to do it again. I assume no since he's young, but I really have no idea.
I could never get to the garage sales before those things were snatched up, check to see if you have a local kids bst on facebook and put an ISO. I got a cozy coupe and a slide thing for $20 total from one woman, a Step2 wagon for $25 and an almost brand new trike for $15. It has been my post option!
DS has all sorts of black crud under his fingernails. It doesn't go away when we clip them, and I can't seem to get it with a washcloth. Is this just a lost cause that I should resign myself to living with until he's older?
I make a halfhearted effort to clean out the crud using my fingernails every couple days. I'm not sure if there's an easier way.
Other than talking to him, cuddling him, and just generally loving on him, is there something else I should be doing with my 1 week old when he's awake?

How young is too young for a sticker reward chart? I need new ideas (other than sitting outside their room) to get my son to nap when he clearly still needs a nap.
I'm taking E with me to a get together with work people later. I'm bringing a bottle of breast milk that I pumped yesterday and kept in the fridge. I was planning on keeping it at room temp in my diaper bag. If she doesn't wind up drinking it, can I put it back in the fridge and use it later tonight or this weekend?

If it's been brought to room temp after refrigeration, it cannot go back into the refrigerator.
Can you keep it cold with ice packs? That way if she doesn't drink it, you can put it in the fridge for later use.

Obviously you can feed them puffs before crawling, but velar fricative is hesitant, so she can follow the suggestion without feeling like she's delaying giving them.
Each baby is different. Parents should feel free to do things based on their particular child; these "rules" are not set in stone. I would prefer to make posts with that disclaimer being understood and not have to type it out each time.

How long will it be out of the fridge? I'm comfortable with doing this if the bottle has been at room temperature for less than 4 hours and it's fed within 24 hours of going back in the fridge but I think I'm pretty relaxed about this stuff. Definitely do a smell test before feeding
The smell test never works for me. It always smells fine. I gave DD some oatmeal mixed with BM once and she didn't like it. I tasted it and the BM was bad. Oh god it was awful! Now I sip a small amount to test instead of going by smell.

i bought baby oatmeal yesterday and the package says to use within 30 days of opening. why? did you follow that instruction?
Oh man, I still bake with the leftover oatmeal I bought a year ago. Haha, maybe it's time to toss it.
But I'm assuming a month is their take all precautions against potential lawsuits stance. It's just cereal. It'll be fine for a good long while as long as your baby is not drooling directly into the box.

Interesting! I don't think I'm brave enough to taste my milk, ridiculous as that sounds!
I'm stopping by work before I go to the party. Let's say it's in my diaper bag for 90 minutes and then I throw it in the fridge at my friend's house. That would be better, right?

No, I completely understand! It took me until that incident (at maybe 5 months) to taste it. Now it's NBD.
I don't think it will have warmed up tooo much in 90 mins. You can chance it. Do the smell test and if she rejects the bottle, it might be bad.

No, those are perfect used items. They are all overpriced new, IMO. I have bought a few used and the ones I couldn't find new, but they have held up well in both conditions. Our neighborhood's sale is tomorrow, so I'm on the hunt for outdoor stuff as well.
I weaned DD at 18 months and had a baby a year later. She did not want to wean (weaned her so I could get PG) and did remember nursing (or at least said she did) once DS was born. She told me she wanted milk a few times and sort of giggled, so she knew it was silly to ask. Not sure if she was serious or not. Since your DS is so much younger, I doubt he would remember it.

I was a weirdo FTM who cut puffs into fourths for way too long for fear of choking. I think I started giving DD finger foods like that around 9 months, but we didn't start solids at all until 6 months. I am planning on doing BLW with DS in a couple of months, but I am not sure how my fear-of-choking self will handle that.
Follow up to this. When should you stop using the rnp?
I've been told on here whenever they're ready. My pedi told me yesterday she likes babies sleeping in the crib by 4 months.
DS is 4 months and in the RNP. I don't strap him in since I swaddle his bottom half. He is a huge baby (18.5 lbs) and needs to transition to the crib, but he is not having it. Screams every time I put him in it. So, we are working on it, but I fear he's going to outgrow the RNP before he accepts the crib. Not exactly sure what we will do then.

I understand. Every time we attempt to put DS in the crib he immediately wakes up and cries. We're hoping daycare helps him transition.

I found puffs to be a really good food for practicing the mechanics of eating. They totally dissolve and it seems like there's very little chance a baby could choke on them.

It was yikes to the bottle not to you. I have never purchased puffs so I didn't know they had any sort of guidelines like that. I'm glad I didn't because then I would have second guessed everything i was doing food wise with DD (even though it was working well) FTM-style. I'm sorry if you thought I was reacting negatively to you.
Any advice for helping baby learn how to use a straw cup beyond "keep trying"? We tried the zoli-bot today. I think he tried to suck on the straw a few times, but mostly he just gummed it or wanted to put the green top in his mouth.
This may get lost in here, but I think I am ready to wean, but I'm nervous about it because I don't know what else to do, which makes this a stupid question. On weekdays, we nurse right when he wakes up and right before bed. Is it going to take my H putting him to bed instead of me? If that's the case, I don't know when we can do it because he's gone at least two nights/week.

Does he like pouches? O had a few pouches, then he was really good at drinking from the cup. Food was enough motivation to suck the pouches, so he learned how to suck out of a straw from those.

The playtex ones (little gripper?) can be squeezed so you can make the liquid come up the straw to entice him.

We used the Playtex cup that you squeeze a little and the water goes into their mouth, but I guess it sucks (lol) after the redesign? Anyway, even though he could suck up water from a straw, it took him a long time before he actually swallowed it, like maybe five months? So, yeah, just keep practicing is what finally worked for us.

The 6 oz one is not squeezable, but the 7 oz one is.

I haven't read the instructions yet but she is not mobile at all yet (beyond lots of rolling), let alone crawling with her belly off the floor! That makes me feel better about waiting then. Thanks!
DD does love to feed herself from the mesh feeder and from pouches.
Dd is almost 10 months and is nowhere near mobile. She eats almost all table food now including puffs . I would give them a shot!
