This isn't a complaint about my weight, I'm just talking out loud here. I'm 35 weeks today, and I'm up about 28 pounds from the weight I was when I found out I was pregnant at just 3w4d. I am very short (5 feet) and was about 10 pounds over my happy weight when I got pregnant, so gaining too much weight was a concern of mine from the beginning (although I didn't eat like I was concerned - carbs were my very best friends for the first 12 or so weeks). I gained about 4 pounds in first trimester, then I gained super rapidly about 15 pounds the first half of second trimester, and I got the "try to watch your weight" speech from the doctor at about 24 weeks. Since 24-25 weeks I've only been gaining half a pound to one pound a week, and I'm actually pleased that I'm up only 28 pounds at 35 weeks. I haven't changed my eating habits too much since first trimester, some less carbs, but I still have many bagels and pasta, but with more veggies thrown in too. Maybe my weight gain slowed because I've been eating less since mid second trimester (no room in there!).
In this light, I will be partaking in ice cream each weekend between now and 40 weeks because damn it I love ice cream! I see some cold stone, sweet frog, and milwaukee's frozen custard in my future.
I'm sorry, but I have to lol at eating a bagel for breakfast being confession-worthy! haha
I think I just hit that window of rapid 2nd tri weight gain you mentioned, OP. I thought i was doing pretty good, but FOUR POUNDS last week. EESH. I know I need to exercise, but I just have so much to DO! And I need my sleep in there somwhere, too.. UGH.

It's a little funny to me because I have eaten (and thoroughly enjoyed) more bagels during pregnancy then I think I have combined in my entire life. There is just something about a bagel smothered with cream cheese ... makes me drool a little bit.

So there's a thing about rapid weight gain in the second trimester? Good. Because I gained nothing in the first 20 weeks, and now have gained about 13 pounds in the last 8 weeks. !!!!
I'm up 18 lbs at 31 weeks and really thought I'd have gained more, but since she's shoved herself clear up under my sternum, I have no stomach space and can't eat much. I packed on most of it during 2nd tri, but actually lost a pound in the last four weeks. FastHands I think there was a week I gained 3-4 lbs too and I was freaking out because at that point I was still working out hard every day and my eating hadn't changed much so I didn't know what more I could do, but it slowed down.

Definitely for me. +5 lbs in first tri, +14 second tri, -1 so far in third tri.

Oh yeah I get you. I love bagels but usually avoid them because I consider them empty carbs and they make me hungry, but I've been having one or two a week lately. Yum.

awesome. This makes me feel better. Because I haven't changed my eating habits THAT much to a account for that much of a jump! I don't mind gaining weight, and I'm not particularly worried about it (considering there's at least 5 options for dessert in my house), but it makes me feel better it's a thing, at least with two other people.

The weight gain part is so hard for me. I truly feel like unless you're really making an effort to shovel down every unhealthy food in sight, your body just gains what it needs to no matter what you do. I ended up gaining 37 with my first; I have friends who gained 17 and 55 and I don't think any of us did anything significantly different from one another. We all had healthy babies and made it back to pre-preg weight within a year! So this time I'm weighing myself much less often and trying not to stress.
I didn't weigh myself when I got the BFP, so I'm going by the last documented weight which was a month before I knew I was pregnant. I had already gained about 10 pounds prior to becoming pregnant. Based on that month before weight, I'm up 24.5 lbs and I'm 25 weeks. I had the most weight gain in the first trimester. The last two monthly appointments I've only gained a total of 5.5 lbs. I'm certainly hoping the weight gain has slowed down.
I have been semi-watching what I eat, usually making smarter choices. But I also had a bagel with cream cheese this morning from Panera and if not pregnant, I wouldn't eat that for breakfast.
What makes me most conscious of my weight gain is that in 2012 I busted my butt to lose 40 lbs. So I definitely want to get back to last summer when I was in the best shape of my life.
ETA: It doesn't help that I have complete previa so my doctor has restricted my exercise just to walking and yoga since 20 weeks.
I had a bagel and cream cheese this morning but all this talk makes me want another! The local place I hit stopped putting it on both sides and I was like um no....extra please. But they went back to lots on both sides just the way I want it!
I wouldn't mind if my weight gain slowed down. So far I have gained 15 or so pounds so about a pound a week. It's not like I am eating a ton or anything but when I can't eat low carb and I can't exercise with high intensity the weight just comes on. I know that it will take me at least 9 months to take it off and I am okay with that. I did it last time and I know I can do it again.
Relax and enjoy these last weeks of pregnancy! I was in the same boat with #1 - I'm 4'11", and gained just under 30 total. I was so miserable from my kid kicking my ribs out of place during those last few weeks that I had ice cream every night. ?
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
I am 21 weeks tomorrow and I am still 13-14 pounds down on the weight I was when I got my BFP. I thought I started picking up weight last week because I was 2 pounds up. This week it was gone again. I am not complaining though, I am overweight so the less I gain the better.
Definitely for me. +5 lbs in first tri, +14 second tri, -1 so far in third tri.

haha, I was going to say, I didn't KNOW it was a thing, but I'm feeling a bit better about it now after readign a few replies here! lol
Sounds like we had similar weight-gain patterns, hokiegirl82. I front-loaded my weight gain in the first 24 weeks. I was exercising 3-4 times per week (because I enjoyed it, not because I was concerned about weight gain) and eating pretty normally and felt good. I had accepted that I'd gain a pound a week and probably hit 40+ pounds by the time I delivered. Then, everything just stalled. I have gained maybe 2 pounds since week 24; I'm 36 weeks now. I agree with scribellesam re: if you're being pretty reasonable about your food, your body gains what it needs to gain. I talked to a really petite woman yesterday (who has a slammin' body) and she said she gained 56 pounds with her first baby. You just never know.
I'm sure my weight gain will pick up in the coming weeks, especially as my husband brings me home nightly treats (a brownie from the bakery yesterday -- yes, he is a gem). But since I'm in the home stretch, anyway, I don't care.
I've largely accepted that my body is doing what it needs to do and nothing I'm doing is going to materially change anything. If my body wants to gain 30 lbs., then that's what's going to happen, and I'm not going to feel guilty for that. (But I'm not gonna lie, getting on that scale still isn't fun.)
I honestly believe that pregnancy weight gain has already been decided for us thanks to our genes. I could sub out every bagel or bowl of ice cream I've had for a kale smoothie and I'd be in the same exact place weight-wise. Nutritionally I'd probably be better off.

What I do care about in this thread: All you guys who live in far-flung places talking about bagels. I have lived around the country and bagels outside of NYC are glorified rolls with holes. Come here and let me show you some MAGIC.
I've never had a NYC bagel but would love try one someday. In my area I only like Einstein Bagels, everything else is gross to me. I don't like Panera bagels AT ALL.

Lol! You are absolutely right about that. I visited NYC in December and had the BEST bagel sandwich ever. It was delish, and I would seriously drive up there just for another one of those bagels. Lol!
I was up 22lbs at 28 weeks and 26lbs at 30 weeks. 4 lbs in 2 weeks seemed a little fast so they gently suggested that I try to keep calories around 2300/day. However, they don't seem concerned at the 26lb total gain.
I'd still love to keep total gain to 35 pounds, but I have been eating pretty much whatever I want and not working out much beyond lots of walking, stretching, and some yoga.

Oh, it's a thing now! An official and important thing!
aqualuv, do you remember where the bagel place was?
kermit, when I lived out of state, I didn't mind Panera bagels because I considered them bread products that were vehicles for pillows of cream cheese. But you are right; they are not really bagels!
I've gained almost all of my weight between 20-34 weeks, about 20 pounds in that trimester-length period. But I haven't gained anything in the last two weeks. As I sit here at 36 weeks 2 days I wouldn't mind not gaining much in this last stretch, especially since I've avoided swelling so far (knock on wood!).
My stomach is definitely smaller, but somehow I've always found room for ice cream.
