Prague is the kind of city I would probably hate if I hadn't lived there. There is so much more to it than the few streets between the castle and Old Town Square that become inundated with tourists. I can't stand the crush and pretty much avoid the tourist areas. But that is not at all difficult to do.
I am not a fan of Paris. But then again, I have only been as a college student and that was before I spoke French. I'd love to try it again.

I will be staying there for about a week this fall and I fully plan on pestering you for recommendations. We want to hit the main sites but I usually try to experience the "real" city whenever possible. We're renting an apartment in Letna rather than staying in the touristy center.

Vegas. I was there for a very short time and on a low budget (conference, so not vacation), but I found it rather unimpressive.
I also wasn't a huge fan of Thailand, but that's probably because I got some kind of bug in Cambodia, and it took over a month for me to feel 100%. Between Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia, I was the least impressed with Thailand.

Vegas. I just don't get the hype.
I didn't enjoy Rome very much during the first time I went because it was June, it was crowded, the temps were in the high 90s, the metro went on strike so traffic was the worst ever and the Coloseum and the Forum were closed due to the strike. Not a good impression.
The, I went back during October and the weather was in the high 60s and sunny and it wasn't as crowded. I totally enjoyed Rome during that time!
I've been luck enough to enjoy all of the international destinations I've been, however, with the exception of London, none are really travel faves to begin with.
This is still my favorite trip that we've taken. Am I remembering correctly that you don't love Thailand because it felt too touristy for you? You prefer Laos? Or am I thinking of another poster? Explain yourself!
This might be me. Possibly true for frlcb too, but Laos is way better than Thailand.
Also wasn't impressed with Hawaii or Spain.
Yep, it wasn't me but I agree with it. To be fair we only went to Bangkok, so maybe that should have been my answer instead of the whole country. But I was just underwhelmed, immensely. I did, however, love Laos.
I'm cool with people not liking my home city...it just means less tourists and more mexican food for me!
I will add another one to my list
Madrid. I just dont get the excitement about it. It reminded me of a very small, clean Mexico City without any personality. The food was way too salty for my palate and kinda bland. I did like the Hawaiian bar---or at least I think I liked it! Much alcohol was consumed there with a bunch of crazy germans.
rupertpenny what season is Prague off limits for you?
And while I've got you- YES, give Chicago another chance, for sure!!
Eta: sorry if you saw my OP; I think I mixed posts
I guess my post was confusing, it wasn't a bad time for Prague, like seasonally, it was a bad time for me. I was just in a funk when I was there. And it rained the whole time.
I don't know if it's a place that people like, but my least favorite place I've been is Panama City. (Panama, not FL) It was dirty and gross and I hated it. I would only go back if I was being paid.

I think PC, Fl would work here too
I really enjoyed St.Andrews State Park, but it's been many years since I was last there.
Definitely London and Thailand. I just got back from Thailand and was completely and utterly disappointed despite staying in the nicest hotels in the country.
I'm another Vegas hater. I could probably enjoy it with a large budget to experience all the shows and high end restaurants. But it I had a large budget I wouldn't be in Vegas!
Santa Fe - I don't get the hype. When I see it on the best shopping lists and such, it has to be people that have never been there or those who just want touristy, overpriced stuff.
Miami - I grew up there, and if my dad didn't still live there, I wouldn't spend much time down there.
Bahamas- blech. So many better beach vacations.
Grand Cayman - it's pretty, but it's so stinking expensive, and I can find better beaches with easier access (and better prices) elsewhere.
I guess you can add me to the Vegas list. I get how it can be fun, and it was fine, it's just not really my thing.
Other than that, I've liked just about every place we've been. I think part of what helps me with that, is that I never have any expectations of the cities we visit. I really just go with the hopes of a different experience, and seeing new places, and I'm always able to find some aspect of it that I really enjoy. I can't think of anything that's been really hyped up, that in turn, let us down. I think that's one thing that allowed me to really enjoy Paris. So many people talked down about it, but then we went and we were pleasantly surprised.
Now, I don't always have a huge desire to return to every city, but really, there are so many places I want to explore, I don't have a huge desire to revisit any place I've been. That's kind of my personality, though. There are places we've loved, and have revisited, but I'm usually happy to have explored a new place, and then my mind is immediately on to a new adventure.
Moscow. I really tried to give it a chance, but 7 full days there made me deeply dislike it.
St. Petersburg, however, was absolutely charming. I'm surprised to see people writing off entire countries in these answers, not just cities or resort areas.
