Moscow. I really tried to give it a chance, but 7 full days there made me deeply dislike it.
St. Petersburg, however, was absolutely charming. I'm surprised to see people writing off entire countries in these answers, not just cities or resort areas.
Honestly, I think the resort areas in Mauritius are probably the most exciting. Sure the scenery is nice, but it's just "okay" nice, not "incredible" nice. I'm willing to write off the entire country after seeing about 60%, since that included nearly all of the top sights/areas. And if I feel like just going to a beach resort, there are so many destinations that are easier to get to.

Fair enough. I will change my answer to the northwest section of Costa Rica. I don't have any desire to see more.
Shoot... Consider me an anomaly I guess. I loved Rome. Loved it. And Venice. Florence...eh. I was in Italy in November. No crowds, wasn't hot, no bad smells. I feel like in Rome every time you turn a corner, there is something amazing awaiting you. And Venice... there is just nowhere like it - when you get away from the touristy spots and are wandering on your own. Florence was just ok for me. Amazing art.
I also like Maui when you get farther away from Kaanapali and Lahaina.
So for me, a place I didn't like was Vegas. At all. Everything about it is annoying and awful. And I was there on an all expenses paid trip. I did have some good meals though.
Another Rome vote. I would go back, but I think I expected to fall in love. There were cool parts, but I didn't like the overall vibe of the city. And the whole Vatican museum was not great, although St Peter's Basilica was incredible.
I knew I would dislike Vegas and I did (I went for work).
I just got back home (yesterday matter of fact) from a couple days at Walt Disney World, a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas and Universal Studios. First time ever for all of it, including first cruise and first time in Florida. And Florida was awful. The weather was the same as here at home (hot & humid as hell) but it was terrible to look at. I also didn't get all the Disney love. It was ok but I have no desire to go back to it. Nor the Bahamas but going to the beach was nice. And Universal? Total waste of money. Never again. Probably never again for Florida on the whole. I just didn't like it. And I would rather go some place I have never been.
I am also going to be an outlier and say Cliffs of Moher and the Grand Canyon. Both were beautiful but it was a lot of freaking work to get there with little payoff. I will freely admit it might be because both have been photographed so much that seeing them was kinda like, oh look, cool. And that's it.
Paris - I didn't fall in love with it like I thought I would. Also it my first Europe trip and at 23 I was just not the experienced traveler I am now. I think I could have a totally different experience if I went again...which I might since the guy I am dating really wants to go there.
I'm laughing at all of the FL responses. Not specific cities, but writing the state off as a whole, particularly when people visit May-Sep. I know it's not everyone's thing. There are good things and bad things for sure, but just like I wouldn't visit Chicago Nov-Feb, you don't visit FL in the summer, and then act surprised when it's hot & humid. LOL You also don't go to Orlando, and expect to see anything charming or redeeming. We have some beautiful beaches, especially on the gulf. That's our thing. Come when it's nice, get out on the water, enjoy the laid back beach restaurants & bars. Any other expectations will lead to disappointment. 100% in agreement that the Orlando/Disney/Universal area sucks....but it's theme parks. If that's your thing, it's what you'll get. If it's not your thing, you'll be miserable...especially if you do it May-Sept.
Vietnam....I hated it, especially Hanoi. The food was horrible. It's busy and smoggy....I'll never go back.
Mexico. This is a picture of the motorcycle cop who pulled us over and robbed us.
This stupid fuck and his buddy literally took a rope and some cones and roped off an on-ramp which caused us to be redirected into some side-streets, that is where he decided to pull us over and demand $200 or he would take us to jail. His reason....we were going UNDER the speed limit. Corrupt mother f- er
I also didn't like the constant cat-calls. Plus as careful as you are to not drink the water, even brushing your teeth with bottled water, I still can't shit right for about a week after returning....happens every time.

We got pulled over by a corrupt/fake policeman and two guys with AK-47s in Mozambique. He was threatening us to call our embassy, because we would never leave Mozambique. It was scary as hell, especially with the guys with assault rifles flanking our little rental car. The worst part was that the jungle was right there, so you know they could have shot us and no one would have ever found the bodies.
I would still recommend Mozambique. Gorgeous beaches, friendly people (no one else tried to extort and possibly kill us), delicious food, and swimming with whale sharks! I just wouldn't recommend driving in Mozambique. But based on the Lonely Planet threads, I don't think "driving in Mozambique" qualifies as something that everyone else seems to like! Haha!

We got pulled over 3 times within 15 kilometers in Mozambique by the police with AK-47s. Good times. I was more annoyed than scared because we were driving back to Joburg to catch a flight to Botswana and I was going to be so pissed if we missed our flight, luckily we didn't.
The main problem seems to be driving at night. I had no problems driving during the day on other occasions.
I probably won't go back anytime soon because I've already been twice, but beautiful country with very hospitable people outside of the corruption.
We got pulled over again about 10 minutes after we got away the first time, and we were all completely freaked out. That time was legit. They were wearing IDs, and just wanted to check our credentials and asked where we were going. We mentioned getting pulled over a few km earlier already, and they were actually rather concerned.
I'm pretty sure we got pulled over because of our SA plates. We put up enough resistance (insisting they take us to the police station) that when another SA-plated vehicle came along they let us go and pulled them over instead.

I'm a former Floridian who doesn't care much for the state and I still have to agree with everything in this post! You (general you) shouldn't write the whole state off so easily, it's rather diverse.

I feel the same way about Vegas and you wrote it off! Vegas is beautiful and there's more to see than the few miles that = the strip. There's hiking, amazing off-strip restaurants, tons of outdoors activities. It's really a great place, even if you don't like to drink or gamble or spend a ton of money.
Tell you what--all you Vegas haters? Next time you come let me take you out for a local adventure. I can't guarantee you'll love it, but I think you'll have a different perspective.

Next time work sends me there I might just take you up on that!

LOL. This is true, but at least we didn't write off the entire state of NV! All of that stuff you mentioned is why I would actually go back to Vegas. I didn't get to see it. I told DH I'd do the strip for 2 nights max, and then I'd like to explore. There are actually a lot of areas around there I think I'd like.

And if you run you'll love it. We have so many trails and spots to run. I'm actually heading out in an hour to run the red rock loop with some friends!
No one in this thread has mentioned South America (though maybe there was one tiny mention). I enjoy travel but have no desire to visit there. Anybody hate it/love it?
I think I've found that DH and I enjoy vacations more when we have things planned out and see lots of things. If we feel like we didn't get to see enough, it can cloud the memory of the whole vacation.
We didn't care for our couple of days in LA. The Hollywood strip just seemed dumb. The studio tours were kind of cool. It was raining, and we've seen nicer beaches in the Caribbean, so no biggie. And Rodeo drive and Beverly Hills were just some stores and houses (and not, old, historical, civil war houses which would be cool). I'm sure the hiking would have been nice for us if the weather hadn't been bad.

Which part or which country?
I loved Patagonia. It's stunning. And I haven't even been to El Calafate!
I have a love/hate relationship with Rio, but it really is a gorgeous city (from a distance), and I think it's well worth visiting, though the beaches in the northeast are much better.
I would love to go to Iguazu and Angel Falls. Also on my wishlist are the Galapagos, Manaus and the widest parts of the Amazon River, and Fernando de Noronha.

I love SA. We have done Peru, Argentina, Chile and Ecuador and now my dh just got back from Brazil. We have spent a small amount of time in Colombia. I think SA is great.

I have really liked the places I have been in South America. I have been to Argentina, Brazil, Peru, & Bolivia. This November, we will be going to Chile, spending a good part of the trip in Patagonia.
A big plus for me to Central & South America is no jet lag. I love that I don't have to cross a bunch of time zones.
