H went grocery shopping and they were completely out of produce! He said it is all stuck in their distribution centers and will probably go bad. I'm sad, is this the end of cheap groceries?

I went yesterday and had the same issue. There was also a lack of meat at my store. How do you not have boneless chicken breasts?? I'm going to go elsewhere today to finish shopping. The girl at the checkout said maybe Monday they will get more produce.

Randomly we were in Boston yesterday so I happened to stop at Russo's for my produce and then I was planning to go to the Hudson Market Basket to finish up my shopping. Boy was I happy that I did that. They were out of about 90% of their produce, the meat was looking pretty scarce. The cereal/oatmeal/granola aisle was really picked over. It really sucks what is going on with that company.
Bottom line though, I am happy to see that customers and workers are fighting back about this. Ultimately, if they don't have food to sell, people won't go there and new guy in charge won't make money.
I am not sure about your stores, but at each of the registers at the Hudson store there was a petition to sign. The store manager also got on the intercom while I was there and explained the situation and why the store looked like it looked. I've done the majority of my grocery stopping there since I moved out at 18...and when I lived at home my parents shopped there 100% of the time since I was a baby.
This makes me sad, too. I actually haven't been to Market Basket in a few weeks since I've been super busy, and am just buying produce at the farmers market. I hope the new CEO hears the message.
Hannaford in Southern NH was super busy last night too. The Stop N Shop closed awhile back and with MB on lockdown... Hannaford is the only grocery store in that part of town.
Ugggh, MB is one of my only accessible off-site options for lunch at work. They had associates with a table collecting signatures at the door and then some more people with protest signs at the end of the driveway. The empty shelf photos on facebook are fascinating.

We just got back from our Hannaford (maybe the same one as yours...) and it was more packed than I have ever seen. This Market Basket stuff makes me sad. I don't know why, maybe because I know several long-time employees or maybe the loss of the MB tradition. I hope it gets worked out somehow.

hulley and Lilac. I need produce and eggs. I'm thinking about going to Hannaford's in Plaistow. Any idea about stock levels there? I know the Shaw's in Newburyport is overpicked from facebook.
Besides a tiny market, the next nearest grocery store is 20 mins away. This really sucks.

I'm sad because I don't see any positive way out of this. I think it's the beginning of the end.
I went to Shaws for produce since we couldn't get any at MB and they were way busier than normal and the produce shelves were also bare! Freaking A! The only thing left was cauliflower, which I'm usually not a fan of. Silver lining: being forced with no other options, I roasted it and it was DELICIOUS!
I wasn't really interested in following the dispute until the workers started their strike. Now its evolved from a catty family dispute to a labor dispute, and I find it very fascinating. Its rare to have a non-union labor dispute coupled with corporate greed and the rally behind a CEO that actually treated employees WELL.
The new management will have to bend eventually, because profit was what drove their decision, and if they keep this standoff going, the profit will die out very, very quickly.
This morning WBUR did a spot on how MB has no corporate website. 1 hour later (by my estimate from FB comments) they (MB) register a basic website with locations, circulars, etc. Except THEY STOLE THE CIRCULARS OFF THE UNOFFICAL PAGE!

I really hope that they take the offer and Artie T is able to buy the company. I think that will be a great solution because the family members get the $$$ they wanted from selling the company and Artie T will keep the same corporate philosophy of the Market Basket that we have all grown to love.

I would love that to happen, but I strongly doubt it will. Don't forget that Arthur T and his side of the family screwed Arthur S out of millions and millions of dollars for a long time before it was hashed out in court in very ugly fashion. They won't let him have the business back so he can be the hero.
My bet would be that they sell to one of the other bidders.
