I wanted Lisa's wedding dress for my own wedding, when this episode aired. I'd still wear it in a heartbeat.
And the "You are Lisa Simpson" note gets me every time. Along with "The down-to-earth good looks of Eleanor Roosevelt," for the opposite reason of course.
I feel like someone just punted a kitten across the room.
I've seen an episode. But I doubt I've seen more than five episodes.
Do you have FXX? They're doing an all-series marathon next month, and the FXX app will allow you to watch all episodes at will. (Except for the current season because FOX has exclusive rights.)
*whispers* I convinced MH to upgrade our cable package today for this very reason.
Oh man...the substitute might be my favorite one ever.
I cry during the episode. I just can't help it.
"You are a baboon! BABOON BABOON BABOON!"
I love The Simpsons. So many wonderful episodes, so many perfectly created pieces of dialogue. I will cry if/when it goes off the air. They don't run old episodes here anymore, and it makes me sad.
I've never understood why families banned it. The show is about, essentially, a Christian nuclear family. Wholesome for everyone!
my mom saw an episode where bart drank bleach? something french? i dunno.
i wasnt allowed to watch 90210 or melrose place either
He was an exchange student in France and his hosts abused him. They were winemakers and put antifreeze in the wine, and made him taste it to determine whether or not it was poisonous. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crepes_of_Wrath
I wasn't allowed to watch You Can't Do That on Television.
My dad didn't really love The Simpsons when it first came out but I wasn't banned from watching it. Weirdly enough, he LOVED Family Guy.

DH told me last night that FX is going to broadcast each episode back to back straight for like 2-3 weeks this fall. Plus make them available on streaming. He looked like a little kid in a candy store telling me this, lol. It was cute.
My mother didn't like me watching the Simpsons but she never forbid it. I was 10 when it came out so the fact that she disliked the show made it all the more appealing.
We watch repeats most evenings but it seems like they're only given the same 10 episodes to show over and over again.
If ever a Simpsons (or L&O) episode comes on that eirher H or I haven't seen it is a big damn deal in our house.

I love the Simpsons but have to confess that I haven't watched it in a few years. I always loved the Halloween episodes. Monorail comes to mind, anything involving the Flanders, the Shelbyville feud shows, Rock n Roll camp for Homer. too many to name.

Luckily I was in law school when it came out so no problems with my parents
Overall, I think the Monorail episode ("Marge vs. the Monorail"), written by Conan O'Brien, is my favorite. But there are SO MANY one-off scenes and lines from all kinds of episodes that I can't even begin to put together a top 10 list.

If MH or I are putting salt/parmesean/whatever on each other's food when we plate it, the other person will always go, "Little more ... little more ... little more ... too much, take it back."
They do Class Simpsons Trivia Nights in a few cities. MH and I won fourth place in Brooklyn a few weeks ago: woohootrivia.blogspot.com/
Oh man. Me and one of the women I work with would love that. We used to do Simpons triva offs during shutdowns at work. We had to be separated because we were unstoppable teamed up.
I FLURVE the Simpsons. My most commonly used phrase is "for every moment in life, there is a Simpsons corallary."
I own all existing seasons of the Simpsons on DVD. I have (most *shakes fist*) of the Lego minifigs, I have the figures and magnets from the Movie, I have a can of Buzz cola, a shampoo ad with Marge, Simpsons wrapping paper and gift bags, a 12 in stuffed Maggie (she's my favorite), two versions of Simpsons monopoly and trivia, Simpsons pictonary all known books written on them. One day I will sucker H into getting me the Simpson Lego house.
The only collection I have that outshines my Simpsons stuff is my (beautiful, beautiful) yarn. When I like something a lot I become mildly obessed.

It does have one of the best songs. It's up there with See My Vest, Stonecutters and Put the Spring in Springfield.
I'm surprised that The Cartridge Family (the one where Homer buys a gun) hasn't been discussed in the media lately.
One of my all-time favorites is A Millhouse Divided (the one where Millhouse's parents get divorced). I don't think that one gets enough credit. HILARIOUS.

It was banned from my house as well. My parents (my mother in particular) hated the fact that it was a cartoon because that meant that it was being marketed to little kids as well as older ones, and certainly it was not something adults watched. She also hated the character of Bart Simpson, that he mouthed off to his parents, and was a general troublemaker. The movie Die Hard was ok to watch, but the because the character Bart was a child and had no respect for his parents, well that was right out. My parents were usually pretty reasonable, but this one show for whatever reason made them loose all sense of sensibility.
I've seen maybe 20 episodes or so. I didn't see them till I was in college, and while they were amusing, I didn't feel the need to binge watch them either.
