Why it's awesome: Packers. There is no place on earth like Lambeau. Beer. The drinking culture here is like no other. Nature. great state parks, trails, lakes, etc. cost of living ain't bad. Festivals!
Not awesome: winter. It's pretty brutal sonetimes.
Presuming weather is tolerable, beer gets a thumbs up, and Packers are not going to ever be acceptable, but good-natured ribbing is super, what is the political situation like for people who are strongly liberal?
Awesome: the lake. Nice people. Summerfest. Milwaukee is an amazing city. Door county. Good food. Taverns. Fish frys. It's quiet. Lots of fun, small town community activities. Golfing is nice in summer. .
It us not awesome if you hate fried food. Mosquitos are awful.
Reasons it is awesome: It is a beautiful state with lots of nice outdoors things to do. Beer. Cheese. Excellent cheese. The Dane County Farmers' Market. The UW union terrace in the summer. Lots of summer festivals. The people are hard working and down to earth, for the most part, and usually very polite. Very laid back and they know how to have fun. The mustard museum. Since I moved away, I have realized that the grocery stores and farmers' markets overall tend to be great, even in the little podunk town I lived in for years. Madison is a wonderful place. Russ Feingold.

Depends where you live.
Although I will say that I lived in a very conservative place for a while, as a flaming liberal, and no one ever gave me a hard time about it.

Hmm political is quite divided. Milwaukee and Madison are very liberal, but also (at least Milwaukee) corrupt. And people are friendly... Like if you aren't a packer fan you can still go out to a bar and watch the game... You'll just get some good natured ribbing I've lived here all my life so I love it it's home... I even don't mind the winter, we have the resources to deal with it ) salt, plows, etc...,

I have lived in Wisconsin my whole life and it is a really pretty state. People are friendly, the food is good, beer is good and there are fun places to visit throughout the state.

Awesome: Beer. Cheese. Tubular meats. Sports (especially the Brewers and Miller Park). Tons of local pride and locally made products. Lots of outdoor activities. Great people. Reasonable COL. Farmers markets. Festivals.
Not awesome: Scott Walker. Winter if you hate snow (I personally prefer WI winters to DC summers). Can be a bit provincial/suspicious of outsiders, which can make job searching difficult.
I love it and would move back in a heartbeat if we could find jobs there.
