Baby Austin is here!
I'll try to keep this short, as I'm typing one handed on my phone, but I had my baby on Friday after an hour of real labor, including 15 min of pushing.
I had been at 4.5 CM at my appt on Wednesday, and the dr warned us about a quick delivery. DH and I got all excited, but nothing happened, and I was only having irregular, non-painful contractions, so I went to work on Thursday, but left early. Friday, DH and I walked around the mall, and still nothing. I was losing it mentally, so DH convinced me to call the dr to at least get checked. I bawled the whole way to the hospital bc I was afraid of being induced. Thank goodness for DH though, otherwise I would have been having this baby by the side of the road later that night, I am sure. We live 45 min from the hospital.
Anyway, I showed up and was at 6cm. The dr was like, "6cm is labor, whether you feel anything or not, crazy lady." *not exact quote. I had GBS, so the plan was to get the abx, and reassess in four hours, after the second dose was started. At that time, they came in to break my water, and asked if I wanted an epidural. I said probably, but let's see what happens after my water is broken.
Almost immediately, I regretted that, since shit got real right away. The anesthesiologist came in to tell me the risks, and I was in so much pain with barely any recovery time in between contrax, that I had no idea how I was going to sit still enough for it. He came back in with the stuff, but I was already pushing. Whoops. But hey, now I can say I experienced a med-free birth. I don't necessarily recommend it, but I felt AWESOME after the baby came out. Bebe is so much more alert than DD was, and better at nursing. Not sure if the med-free is why, but I certainly felt more like myself much faster than when I had the epi.
Oh, and bebe is giant as well- 9lbs 12oz and 22.5 inches long. We came home yesterday, and survived the first night! DS only lost about 4% of his weight too, and we are headed to the pedi this afternoon for a check. Overall, we are doing well!
Pic for a limited time, pdq. You can really see his length here. Luckily you can't tell that all the blood vessels on my face burst.
