Until we met with our financial planner friend a couple weeks ago, I was clueless about our finances. My husband takes care of all the bills and whatnot. And even though I love him and trust him implicitly, this was stupid on my part. Thank goodness he makes sound decisions. Also, I cringe at how much we spend every month. When did food get so expensive?
I just saw something in the news the other night about rising food prices. It sucks. (In case you are thinking it's a personal budgeting issue - it's not.)
Thank you. It's crazy how much more things cost when compared to just a couple years ago (when I last took an interest in budgeting).
I confess that i am soooo upset about market basket. I finally live right near two and we can't even shop there. I spent $200 at fucking Roche brothers yesterday..... And it wasn't even a huge shop.

Ugh, tell me about. What a fucking fiasco. My grocery bill is so high between TJs, Shaw's and stupid ass stop in shop.

I don't even live up there anymore and I'm upset about it. I saw that they're advertising for new managers, so I'm guessing the board of directors thinks they can just wait for the customers to get tired of it all and return.

This whole thing need to end, like, yesterday. DH went to Shaw's last night and spent a ton of money on very few things. Plus, I expected his days to be shorter because he can't really deliver to MB... but no. His deliveries are so big and the other stores so busy, that he's been working crazy long hours.
ETA: Also, I guess this is a FFFC: If I did the food shopping, I would still go into MB and get everything I could there. I'm not boycotting.

Me too! I've had to drive an extra 20 minutes to Hanaford's and I spent an extra $45 dollars this week! I want my Market basket back! It's doesn't look like I will be going there any time soon.
Market basket = discount grocery store. Board voted to oust the CEO and refocused the company to raise profits to line their pockets at the expense of the workforce (cutting benefits and the like). People are PISSED and the workers refuse to work anymore. People are boycotting.
At least, that's my understanding of the situation.

I wouldn't call it a discount grocery store. Like, Aldi would be a discount store... MB is just... MB. LOL, it's just USUALLY better priced than Shaw's or Stop & Shop.
Some workers, (like truck drivers, wareshouse employees, some people in the stores), are refusing to work. The stores are still open and running. Nobody is really shopping there, though, because without people working in the warehouse and/or delivering stuff, there really isn't meat, produce, or anything else that comes out of the MB distribution centers. I mean, we see pictures of the stores locally, and they are just deserted.
Outside vendors are still delivering to the stores as they can. Also, a lot of customers are choosing to boycott the stores in support of Artie T. (the fired CEO), and their friends and family who work for the company.
Hannaford's, Shaw's, S&S... they are all thriving around here because of this. DH doubled his sales into most of the others stores this week... which is great, because they sure as hell aren't selling much into MB.
I just gave Elias way too many fruit snacks because he was saying and signing "more" so perfectly.
I also painted all of his toes yesterday because he came up to me while I was painting mine and said "Pweeeee!!" (Please) so then I painted a toe, and he said and signed "more" for the next toe. So we sat there and I painted every toe, because he kept saying more. I don't care that he has purple toes. It was the sweetest moment!
Although, I went into Hannaford's last weekend and I've got to say - it was a nice experience! MB gives me really bad anxiety when I'm in there. Hannaford's has a calmness to it, lol.

I think I would totally rock being a single mom if I had to be. I really enjoyed it being just me and C while DH was gone for 2 weeks. I also feel like I'm a better mom when it's just us. Don't get me wrong I love DH but the independent selfish woman in me enjoyed not having to worry about another grown person.

Lucky!!! Hannaford's is usually so quiet and it was a nightmare because it was soooo busy!

Seriously! I want my store back. We're spending so much more at Hannafords.

I spoke to someone works at Hannaford's in West Peabody I think? They said their sales have doubled, and it's been ridiculous and they are all exhausted! I think I just hit it at the right time!
Having a child that's struggles to gain weight, we have a lot of fatty and sugary snacks. I make DH hide them or Peyton will basically never even get a bite. Zero self control right here.
Are sugary snacks what her doctors are recommending she eat in order to gain weight? How is she doing, by the way? Any recent gains?
Not overly sugary snacks like straight up candy or anything. Her food therapist did suggest things like gram crackers dipped in Nutella and the oatmeal cream pies. Basically we just don't feel guilt of having some junk-ish food in the house because it's all about high fat and protein for Pey. She still eats plenty of fruits, veggies, and meat, but for some reason she isn't much into carbs( breads and pasta-crazy girl!) so we add in some not so great kinda snacks. We always list off her foods at dr appts and they have never scolded us so we figured they aren't concerned.
She hasn't been to the dr since her GI appt earlier this month. She has a pedi weight check in September.
It's Hannaford, not Hannafords, ladies I hope you don't call Walmart, "The Walmart". That's another NE lingo pet peeve of mine, lol.
It is owned by the Hannaford brothers and started by Arthur Hannaford. I always add the S on the end because it's their business. I know it's not correct, but it just sounds right to me.

my confession is while I complain about the cost of groceries and market basket is cheaper, I still hardly ever go there. It's a bit further away and I have to get on the highway. Plus I find it very stressful to shop there, the people seem a bit crazed, it's always so busy. THE LINES to checkout. Ugh. I feel like it gives me anxiety just thinking about going.
soo I just keep paying more for things at stop n shop
I wonder if I live near a particularly bad market basket. It has an ocean state job lot in the same plaza which I feel is a bad sign
