So, I have like $200 in birthday money to spend. I want either:
A) A serious pair of jeans. I wear jeans to work most days, and often enough on date nights. All my current jeans are ON. I'm a little nervous to drop $$ on skinnys and have them go out of style.
B) A serious pair of boots. I have a short foot and wide calves so I've never bought boots that go above the ankle. This might be a terrible idea if skinnys/boots go out of style, and also because I'm 5'2" and wide-ish, it might just be something I should avoid.
C) General fall shopping. I have a handful of sweaters, I could always use more cardis, and some nicer tops. Plus jeggings.
AE for the jeggings for sure. They're not pricey at all and have a range of fits so you can find the rise that feels best. They also go on sale pretty frequently. I'm going to pick up a few more pairs for fall.

Thoughts?
Honestly I would get jeans. I think there is something about a nice fitting pair of jeans that just changes an outfit. My MO is to go to Nordstrom, and try on every pair of jeans in my size, plus a size or two on either end in the pairs that don't fit (so if the butt looks bad on X brand, I try another size to see if it's the brand or size). I will set a general budget (not over 250 or something) but I don't look at price besides that. Sometimes the best pair of jeans is 100, sometimes 200.
I do buy a pair or two, but then you have your "brand" and size and can start looking on discount sites etc for more.
I don't do this for every pair of jeans I own. Only for the good basic pairs that I think every female needs lol. I go cheaper with the trendier styles etc
For those of you looking for jeans/pants, have you seen the 'How to avoid mom jeans and elongated butt' post? If not, I think it's a great read and helps to figure out flattering fit.
Look, skinnies are not going out of style any time soon. Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are still wearing them so our old asses shall be safe for at least three years, mmkay?

I'm terribly sorry if this was asked and I missed it, but has anyone used Stitch Fix? I like hat I've read about it but am not sure i want to take the plunge.

I did it for about 5 months and only bought a necklace. The stuff was way overpriced for the quality and they couldn't get my style or fit down at all, despite me giving them very, very specific feedback on each piece.
Skinny jeans (at least the basic style) will never go out of style. It's a classic fit/style that has always been available just not as widely as it is right now with as many options and washes. But a pair of dark denim skinnies are a staple IMO and will never not be stylish.

I have this issue too. Size 7 foot size 800000000 calf. I've only gotten stretchy tall boots but I want tall stiff ones.
I'm a 6! I haven't ever looked that hard, but it makes me feel more confident that you don't reject them outright
I'm thinking mrsbecky has a point with the jeans though. I've never owned anything better than a pair of Levi's.

I've had three boxes in the past year and like it. I like doing it when the seasons change for new ideas. Sometimes I return all but one or two items and then fine similar styles elsewhere for cheaper.
Skinny jeans have been popular since like 2006. They don't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon but I don't think they will be the style forever. For one, they are fucking uncomfortable! (Or at least the ones I've tried are!) and they are not forgiving to any sort of belly blubber. I think someday ladies will revolt. Until then, they are cute!
Plus, normcore will be coming in style next. My prediction anyway. High maintenance fashion will be rejected!

Skinny jeans were absolutely not a fashion when I was in college mid90s. It was all chunky shoes under boot cut jeans with cable knit sweaters. I see the sweater look coming back which makes me nervous that the jeans will start to harken back to boot.cut. Plus I saw an oldz at brunch today wearing skinny jeans with snake skin sandals. Now, she looked sharp and I bet I would happily shop at her garage sale. But when the style makes it's way to the polydent set, it makes me nervous about wearing it myself.
They weren't trendy then but they've always been a thing. Some of the super skinny styles not so much but the skinny cut for pants/jeans - think Audrey Hepburn - has been around for a long time. It's a flattering fit that has a classic style. I just don't think it will ever go away. All the options, maybe. But it's probably one of the more universally flattering cut that can be worn with all kinds of styles (boho, classic, etc.) depending how you style the jeans and the wash you buy.

Wow. I just looked up normcore and just no. That's fugly shit right there. (Now i get why Essiebutton keeps wearing that ugly shit she wears). The shoes are the worst! I don't care if I look old but I'm gonna keep on rockin my Stacy and Clinton style rules: color, texture, pattern, and shine.
Skinny/slim/tight pants have been around for a long time, but maybe not as ubiquitous as they are now or styled differently.
Regardless of when they came "in" though I don't think they will be "out" for a long time. We women have invested too much money in our skinny pants and tall boots. It's going to be around for a while lol as a look.

At minimum, you'll be able to roll them up into ankle pants or stuff them into boots for a long, long time. Both looks are classic even if some of the design features have changed over time.

I like cowboy boots myself as well. Of course I am from Texas but I think they look really cute with skinny jeans in the fall. You could go with medium brown or you could really get wild with them. (I have the 2nd pair).

Just to add to the skinny debate. I think they are best worn with boots and can be more unflattering with other pairings. I prefer straight leg with flats/sandals etc.
At the risk of being a pain in the ass, something can go "in and out" of style and still remain a classic. Leather jackets, trenches, khakis, etc come to mind.
Normcore looks dirty to me so I'm pretty sure I won't be going that route.
My understanding is that normcore is meant to be ironic somehow, and well, there's nothing ironic about a 30something mom of 2 wearing mom jeans. I would just look like I am a mom wearing mom jeans.
Look, I just have PTSD from a childhood spent trying to find a long enough pair of tight jeans to wear with my too big sweatshirt. If they were long enough, they weren't tight enough and OMG, my teen years were totally over, guys.
In my mind, dark wash skinny jeans fall in the "style is eternal" category, even though the quote is referencing a person's style not things being stylish. Fashion is always changing; I just think some things are always stylish. If Jackie O. wore it, it's good enough for me.

Skinny jeans/pants have definitely been stylish since at least the 50s. The 90s..they may have been a bit looser, but they still had skinny. I picture the button fly ones and they were definitely not so loose.
