I'm sorry it's bad enough that its missing in the first place but for it to possibly be your brother
Is this the same brother that wants you to buy him a washer?
Different brother. It's the one who went to prison for stealing a yaght causing us not to speak for 5 years. Wende reconciled and become very close. But apparently he hasn't changed.

Is this the brother who was looking for you to go halfsies on a washer for your mom? I would be VERY suspicious of him. Seems like he's hard up.
Different brother. He had a problem with pills a long time ago. When I came home from LA two weeks ago I had a bottle of muscle relaxers go missing. I looked everywhere. I told myself I misplaced them even though they haven't turned up yet.

Should you be wrong? Can you set up a security camera so you could catch him in the act?
I would hate, hate, hate for this to blow up and then it turn out not to be him. Even though it sounds like it's probably him. I'm really sorry stpete.
Oh St Pete. I am thinking the brother with an addiction problem took them, your other brother suspected him, called, got back the engagement ring, and couldn't get back the wedding ring because it has been sold already. And doesn't want to tell you. Is that possible? My lead suspect would be anyone with access to the house and a drug problem. I don't judge the problem, but it is just reality that money for drugs has to come from somewhere.

This sounds plausible, and I really, really hope it's not true. How heartbreaking.
Stpete maybe by taking all those measures to protect yourself and get your guard back up regarding your brother could buy all of you a little time to try to get to a place where you don't have to banish him from your life completely? Like maybe if you talk to him involving him in how devastated you are that you feel so vulnerable (in general) he may come clean at some point?
I don't know it's just that I understand how bad you feel about losing him but maybe it was not such a good idea to be so permissive knowing his past? I'm not blaming you by any means God knows I've let my guard down more than once with my ILs because well, when you love someone you do want to believe they'll change. But you need to treat them differently and try to still be able to love them without enabling them or letting them hurt you. At the beginning it doesn't have to be that evident it's just about him.
You know I'm sometimes too nice for my own well being so take this with that in mind. He does need support but not enabling. I so wish my MIL didn't always bail them out from all situations but your mom maybe different and she also needs to protect herself. what will happen if you all cut him off suddenly? He'll likely be resentful, feel no guilt, blame you all and continue to have more self destructive behavior. If he does realize at some point that he needs to change you can be there to help in that way (I don't know therapy?)
Or you can just say you know what? I'm done with you, fuck you!
These updates are more and more upsetting and awful for you St. Pete, I can't even imagine. Do you think, since he had relatively unfettered access to your house, if he was getting into bad stuff again the rings (and I guess hot dog(?!!?)) could have been caused by his associates (I wrote "friends" initially, but that seemed odd since what friend would do that)? Your plans are obviously well thought out and necessarily protective of you and your kids. I'm just sorry that you're being forced to deal with all of these logistics and questions, on top of dealing with the emotional component.
Marle I appreciate your thoughts, but he would have to seek counseling for me to consider having any relationship with him and I doubt he will. Idk. I am still hoping for some explanation that makes it not him.
This is really weird and fucked up. I had two gf come over for dinner and a movie last night. One left one slept over. I made sure my doors were locked but I don't think the alarm was one because one smokes and was going outside when I went to bed. This morning there is an uncooked hot dog sitting on my open grill. I didn't put it there and neither did my friends. It was from my fridge. I don't understand why it would be there or what the point is but it's fucking weird. I am changing every lock and code today.
have you changed your locks yet, and is there any where for someone to be hiding in your house?
BTK BTK BTK.
Dude.
Hey, St. Pete, you ordered that thermal scanner online from Amazon yet? Be sure to check the crawlspaces!
ETA: holy hell. I made a crawlspace joke before I even saw that SueSue ACTUALLY SAID TO CHECK CRAWLSPACES. Happy Sunday!

lol
not btk. Her brother, or one of his friends he gave a key to.
No. I'm saying you went to a place of BTK hysteria, like you did once years ago about someone answering a door for a repairman or something. St. Pete has taken numerous measures ALREADY and is working with the police. What purpose does telling her to check the crawlspace for her brother serve? Other than to whip up unfounded hysteria and for you to exercise your personal predilections for true crime gibber gabber? Seriously. Do you REALLY think St. Pete has lurkers in her crawlspace? REALLY? What percentage chance is there that there's a thieving meth addict in her attic, based on what she's posted, in your opinion. Did you REALLY need to say that here, in a post where she's already whipped up with enough of her own emotion? What did you think saying it to her would accomplish?
