It doesn't matter if you are obese. The nurse was rude. There are a few indications I can think of to require someone to be on birth control and get pregnancy tests, but being obese isn't one of them.
I hope the doctor makes things better. Try not to let her get you down!
What the fuck? Yes, definitely report her sorry ass and talk to your OB. Ditto to what everyone else is saying about them having absolutely no say in your reproductive rights. Holy hell this is infuriating.
I am 5'10 and weigh 255lbs. Is that morbidly obese?
Not morbidly obese. We're the same height and I was at that same weight last year. My doctor never said one word about my weight.
It is obese (medical definition). It is a BMI of 36.6. It could be considered morbid obesity if you have underlying health conditions as well. (http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/highland/departments-centers/bariatrics/right-for-you/morbid-obesity.aspx)
However, I used to have a BMI of 42. If anyone implied that I couldn't make a decision about my reproductive health because of my weight, I would be burning something down.

What are those indications? Just out of curiousity?

... it sounds like the nurse was providing medical advice - which I don't think nurses are even able to provide since they aren't, you know, doctors .... I'd report what she said to your OB. At the very least she made you uncomfortable at worst she might have been overstepping her role.
Holy shit fuck that nurse. I would find a new OB. I am so sorry that happened to you no one deserves that. Every woman has a right to make decisions about her body and birth control choices and fuck that woman for making you feel otherwise.

Obese =/= MORBIDLY obese. And don't fucking get me started on BMI.

I know that if you're going to take Accutane you are required to take a pregnancy test and use two forms of birth control. Even then though, a doctor cannot force you to use birth control. They can just refuse to prescribe the Accutane.

Treatment with Isotretinoin due birth defects. That's a FDA requirement.
I've also known a doctor to highly suggest/ basically require BC for lithium treatment but I don't think that's FDA requirement.
It seems like the doctor handled it well. From a professional stand point I wouldn't come in raging in front of a patient. I'd address it like the doctor did and take care of it later.
Kind of like how if I got in trouble when I was out, my mom would act all nice in public but give me the look, which it knew shit was going to go down in private at home lol.

OP, I hope you feel better.
I'm sure he has to keep cool in front of a patient. It'd be really side-eye worthy if he went full on "OH NO SHE DIINT" in front of a patient. But I reeeeeeeeeeeally hope he tears in to that nurse once he gets a moment, alone.
I would absolutely report that nurse on my own, as well.
I'd be looking for a new OB to be honest. That is so inappropriate. I'm sorry.
Yep, and make it very clear to him that he is losing a patient as a result of a tactless nurse in his practice.
Would they refuse to take it out if your DH just had a vasectomy, or you just wanted to switch to the pill? WTF. This is absurd. I'm sorry you had to deal with that shit today.
(FYI, I am 10-15 pounds heavier than 18 months ago, and just got KU again our first cycle trying. Good thing this bitch wasn't there when we decided to not put a condom on anymore.)
ETA - After reading your updates, it sounds like he's very professional, so I am glad he put you at ease. I hope you still slash her tires on your way out.
