I have used high-end hair products for years and was kind of snobby about them, but I tried the Suave keratin shampoo and conditioner and it has been the best thing for my hair. It tames it and keeps it looking healthy and shiny. Tons of compliments and several friends have given it a go and they are converts, too.
Question to people who had the keratin treatment- how did it look when your roots look when your hair was growing in? My stylist told me she wouldn't recommend it for me because the roots sometimes look crazy when you have had the treatment and you have curly/wavy hair. What was your experience?
I have fine hair but a decent bit of it. I need a shampoo and conditioner that add volume. What brand would you recommend for that?
i don't know. i mean, i have thick heavy hair that weighs itself down such that my roots are flat and my ends can get frizzy and blah.
i look for S&C that adds volume - but i'm not sure if it would translate to fine hair (it probably would, right?).
i would suggest you try lush big shampoo and either veganese conditioner or happy happy joy joy conditioner.
another trick to add volume that works really well for me is simple: hairspray! get an aerosol spray (not a pump) and spray the shizz out of it once it's styled. i find that it stops my hair from falling throughout the day.
Thank you! There is a Lush store at the mall by my work, I'll stop next time I'm there!

Lololol, I don't! I have one million percent humidity working against me too. My hair is curly, my curls are best when I wash it, put in product and let it air dry, that gets pretty ringlets. However, it only last for one day, once I sleep on it, it's over.
I'm not good at blowing my hair out, and I really only do it in the winter months.

I think dirty hair is key for holding style. And not brushing out curls. So many people curl their hair and then brush and stop that right now. Use your fingers.

IME the keratin treatment wore off pretty evenly, so there wasn't a noticeable demarcation between new roots and the areas which had the treatment applied. I think the difference is more noticeable with the Japanese straightening method.

I just used Living Proof No Frizz cream for the first time and it was amazing. Their straight spray is really good too. And when you blow dry, always, always keep the nozzle pointing down the hair shaft.
anI have started putting the Moroccan oil on damp hair and then rewrap up in my twisty towel while I get dressed and put on makeup. I think it is giving the oil more time to really penetrate the hair. I have just started doing this, but I have noticed that my hair is drying faster, softer and smoother.
So, in theory, I think flyaways are caused by dryness and breaking. Try a keratin treatment, maybe? I think that makes your hair become one again.
I have curly hair, though, so I'm sort of pulling this out of my ass. I totes have flyaways.
This is probably part of my problem. I wash it daily.
What kind of shampoo/conditioner do you use?
I found my hair got 100% better once I switched to washing it every other day along with using a more natural shampoo without sulfates.
I use The Honest Company shampoo, conditioner and detangling spray. You can get it from the baby section at Target. LOVE. So much. Seriously, it's amazing and smells like orange dreamsicles.
It really is as simple as trimming regularly and staying away from that shitty plastic-like drug store shampoo.
I'm definitely snobby about hair care. I admit! At the same time, I guffaww so much when people here complain about their hair in the same breath where they admit that they have cut it in 2 years or that they are faithful to pantene or something.
Or worse, they looked up on Pinterest how to cut hair.
And they use something awful like kitchen scissors. WUT.

my hair has gone from probably a 4/5 (when I was in college and did EVERYTHING wrong) to maybe an 8/9.
what I've changed: - stopped bleaching it. I actually don't dye it at all anymore and have never received more compliments on the color. more importantly, it's so much healthier - trims every 8 weeks at a quality salon - salon quality shampoo/conditioner ONLY. - shampoo/wet my hair 2x/week max. condition only the bottom 1/3 - limit heat application. I give myself a good voluminous blow out after I shampoo and do my best to make that last. (I use a clip at the top of my head overnight to lift the hair off my scalp, which helps with volume, reduces oil, and prevents tangles). I will add extra volume w/o heat by using rollers. - moroccan oil on dry ends on 2nd/3rd day hair but otherwise limit overly relying on products. my hair doesn't look as good when it has product build up and using a stripping shampoo is too harsh.

I was the same way about salon hair products but never saw results that were worth the price. I tried the Suave keratin products after seeing you recommend them before, and I've also noticed a dramatic difference. I used to avoid wearing my hair straight because of too many flyaways, but since switching my hair actually looks nice and smooth after straightening. And it smells great too – even my H noticed and liked it too.
That said, my hair is far from perfect, but in the past couple of years I have made an effort to improve it. Some things that have helped are regular trims, wearing scrunchies instead of elastic bands (but only at home, natch), and alternating the height of my ponytails to prevent damaging the same section of hair. I guess those last two show just how often I rely on ponytails. lol.
I have never been able to commit to infrequent hair washing since I work out and sweat almost daily, but I do skip one or two days a week.

My natural hair is super straight and won't hold a style for anything. I got a digital perm back in May and my hair has been so much more managable. If I just sleep on it wet I have kind of beach waves, I can do headband curls to make it more curly, it looks SO much better when I blow dry it. I also only wash every other day. I'd like to stretch that a bit, maybe I'll be able to when it gets under 90 degrees here.
I wash my hair every day with either V05 Strawberry Creme conditioner or Trader Joes Tea Tree conditioner. Squeeze dry with a t shirt or H's wife beaters. Squeeze (scrunch) in Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk. Air dry without touching it ever. No brush, comb, hair dryer, flat iron or curling iron. Ever. Fin.

I have tried to not wash daily, but I just feel ick. I mean I know it's better for my hair, but I don't feel clean. Even if I would wash it at night, I don't feel clean if I don't wash it in the morning. It is not oily, so I am a fool. I need to pull it together lol

You need a good dry shampoo! It will change your life.
Those that wash only once or twice a week, do you work out? I sweat like a freaking whore in church. How do you combat that? I'd love to try washing my hair less but I workout every day and don't see how I can!
I notice a big difference when I actually take my time doing a blowout (using a lower temperature, smaller sections, applying product to each section, blasting each section with cool air, flatironing immediately after, etc.) rather than trying to rush through things.

I shampoo every 2-3 days but after I run I will get my hair wet and put a little conditioner in it. I also rub my scalp a lot to help get the sweatiness outz

I workout 3-5x every week. I do barre and GRIT (like body attack but more insane). I wash my hair every 3 days. I use copious amounts of dry shampoo in between washes. My hair is very blonde so I use the white Bumble and bumble spray powder.

Using higher quality heat tools also helps a lot.
I totally agree with this. My hair looks so much better and lasts far longer when I take the time to actually do it. I can usually get by with 2 blowouts per week and then re-curl or touch my hair up in between.
Switching to high quality shampoo and conditioner really helped my hair too. I currently use the Kenra Platinum line (moisturizing).
I definitely get lazy and let my hair air dry some days, but it just looks like crap and seems to get dirtier so much faster.
