Today I saw an older (late 60s maybe?) woman rocking a seriously dark smoky eye. I can't say it was the best look for her, but I did a mental fist pump for her still having fun with her makeup.
I used the larger On the Rocks palette every day while we were away. I am really pleased with the quality and the range of colors makes it great for travel. Highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't already have the small one.
I bought a beautiful professional case (silver; aluminum) and I lurrrrrrve it. DH got me a pretty brush roll. Also love. I am now organized and realize I need a) more brushes, b) need more makeup and c) have a few unopened Ipsy items (a Tarte mascara and tattoo, I think, eye liner). I need to rectify all.

I'm not loving my Nars Orgasm/Laguna duo. I feel like I have to be extraordinarily heavy handed. My same brush puts my UD Naked Flushed on so nicely. Is this a brush situation?
Could it be a seasonal issue? I wore peachy pink blush all summer and rocked it, but now I can't make Deep Throat, Orgasm, or my other summer blushes work for me at all, and have to wear much deeper, darker blushes.

Agree it may be the season. I've been having good luck with MAC Blushbaby this winter (I am pale with neutral skin tones (neither particularly warm nor cool)

I got the Bite 4-pack winter set from my BFF. Haven't tried it yet.
Been playing around with the CB. Did a silvery-purple eye and a gold eye for Christmas Eve and Day.
Can we talk storage? I bought something like this last year to replace my much beaten and beleaguered train case and have decided I hate it. link I liked the idea that it could store all my makeup and brushes, but it's bulky and unwieldy. Totally impractical for daily travel, takes up way too much counter space, and the brush storage is way too disorganized.
Ok, I have a dilemma. I have $40 in gc from Sephora and $45 gc from Ulta. I want to get the Naked 2 palette as I have 1 and 3. Is it worth it?
Should I hold out and see what spring colors are out? I could use an overall of some new nail polish.
Decisions. Decisions.
I think N1 and N2 are really, really similar. I'd get a palette with some color to it.
I believe Ulta still has the Smashbox On The Rocks palettes on sale. If you like those colors, I'd get one of those and some nail polish, then save Sephora for spring.

I love Naked 2 and have probably used it as much as Nakeds 1 and 3 combined. Then again, I am a neutral shadow junkie and would happily spend all my money on taupe eyeshadow. If you love cool-toned neutrals then I vote you get it, otherwise I'd wait and see what spring collections have to offer. Definitely use the Ulta GC to get polish, though, because they carry OPI, Essie, Orly, etc...

I am still waiting for Cherry Smoke and new brushes to arrive.
Right now, my storage consists of a couple of sets of plastic drawers full of makeup related stuff, some of which is embarrassingly old. Like, I went through them tonight and found a couple of Sephora professional brushes that I bought in my mid-20s and destroyed because I had no idea what I was doing/didn't wash them well but never threw them out. Oh, my poor, ignorant, youthful self.
Acrylic storage sets seem to be popular around here. I picked up one from Target that's basically a big, flat countertop organizer. It's too big for my bathroom counter, so I move it in and out of my closet or take pieces in and out. That's going to replace my little train case as my daily makeup holder. Much better organized.
I have a hot tools 1 inch. I like it a lot. It heats up fast and I like the clip. I have thought about getting a wand but I'm a bit leery. I'm worried about burning the cuss out of my fingers.
This is the blog I promised you. Really, if you search vintage wet set you'll pop up with plenty of ideas. You'll need setting lotion and you can use foam rollers or even those soft foam twisties. Unfortunately, it's not something that's simple to do and there you are. It make take a while to figure out what pattern works for your hair.
That blog has a link to a book called Vintage Hairstyling that you should get if you seriously want to recreate that look. I own it myself. It not only shows you a variety of styles but it goes in depth into how to roll, what directions, how to correct what didn't turn out the way you wanted, what direction to roll to get different results, etc.
The only thing that's universal about a wet set is that you cannot remove it until it's completely dry.

Thought I would add this here:
I rented a house with other young professionals (3 other girls), 2 of whom I became good friends with before they moved out. We shared a bathroom and I had a drawer with some of my makeup in it, including the Chocolate Bar palette, various mascaras/lipglosses etc... and 3 cheap NYC palettes ($7 each). Someone STOLE all 3 of my frigging CHEAP NYC palettes and left the expensive CB palette. WTF??? I have since replaced them, because, ummm... they cost 25ish bucks to re-buy. But seriously?!! lol

I mentioned this earlier but the Ulta I went to in CT had a display of Zoya polishes on clearance for $5. If you can find the same thing locally I would definitely snap some up.
They are by far my favorite brand, I won't really buy anything else. The Pixiedust are fun and they have quite a range of regular colors. I usually look at pictures online before I buy a color but that's harder to do in store.
i ordered from sephora's sale on christmas day (and got to VIB, primarily thanks to this thread and it's previous versions!). my order status still says 'sent to warehouse' but several of the items are listed as 'permanently out of stock'. what are the chances that i will ever actually get these items?

Our bathroom counter is pretty small, which is why I liked my little train case so much cause it was fairly unobtrusive. I used to store surplus makeup in drawers in the closet but then they would never get used.

I would say pretty good still. I ordered a few bite mini's from the VIB sale last month and it did that to me... like immediately after I ordered, I clicked on order status and it said that the mini's were permanently out of stock. I'm guessing I ordered the very last of them because I got them. During big sales and holidays it seems like it takes an extra long time for them to process orders too, so I wouldn't worry too much about it yet.

I don't know if all Ultas still have some of these in stock (mine still does, and I think they're marked down to $8, maybe?), but I want to rave about them!
They are certainly teeny-tiny (pinkie-length, maybe?), but very soft, and they pick up product really well. The little detail brush is awesome for the lower lash line, and I LOVE the shadow brush. I have smaller eyes, so the size really works for me. I have a fan brush already, but this one is nice and it's worth picking up the set if you're considering one.
Is it almost time for a new thread? The spring palettes are starting to show up online.
Maybe we should have a new one on the first of the year? Around 200 pages seems like a good place to stop and this one has been going for 3 months now.

That sounds good. I can start one, unless someone else who does not want to wait for me to wake up from my Pacific time slumber would like to do the honors.

We've gotta keep the tradition alive of you starting the threads.

Yeah. Try a small stipple brush. I was surprised how well this worked with applying color from an underwhelming powder blush.
I can't remember if it was here or elsewhere, but someone got an eyeful/earful of rage from me when I received a load of Spring makeup collection emails on 12/26.

Awesome. Love this blog. I can do pin curls and I've done them before. But what I really need is some kind of hair wrap to protect my hair when I sleep. I'm a big fan of overnight hair. I hate to do my hair in the morning.

It makes me really happy when I find a drugstore lipstick that I love. This is Maybelline Deepest Cherry.
I bought Benefit They're Real in the Sephora sale and like my cheap Maybelline The Falsies Volume Express a lot better. I'm wearing They're Real in the pic.
I'm still loving my Estee Lauder foundation and Beautyblender sponge.

Nope. Just got an email that my order was changed/cancelled because things were out of stock. They sent the other items but I don't want them anymore. I only ordered them because they took me up to VIB with the sale stuff I got. (Extras of my perfume and face cleanser). In the car now but will get on my real computer to contact customer service and complain. Ugh.
Looks like a field trip to Ulta is in order this week. I am going to hold on to the Sephora gc for spring colors. I realized I should hold out on the Sephora gc b/c my birthday is in February and my BFF always gets me a Sephora gc. Woot Woot.
