Has this been talked about? I didn't see a thread, sorry if it's a repeat.
So I just watched the. Ideo, luckily there was a dash cam in this case. Forgive me for not linking the story/video I don't know how.
Broad daylight. Trooper pulls into a large gas station to stop a driver for "not wearing a seat belt". The driver is seen getting out of his car, the trooper is yelling for his license, so the driver turns and reaches into his car for his wallet, and the second he turns around, the trooper is blasting him, he shot him about four or five times. Thank God it wasn't fatal. The driver was on the ground saying why did you shoot me why did you even stop me? Trooper says you weren't wearing a seatbelt. Driver (moaning on the ground in pain from various gun shot wounds) says wtf I had it on while driving, I was getting out of my car that's why I took my seatbelt off!!
So trooper starts being nice, saying I've got help on the way for you. Ummmmm. Wtf. Ok the video was shocking that he just started blasting the guy out of nowhere it was whoa.
Trooper is in jail and I think $75k bond and faces up to something like 15 years or more if convicted. The defense attorney says there are many ways the video can be interpreted. You watch it and then tell me.
Yes! My heart was breaking for him. He sounded so friggin confused and in pain, like why did you shoot me?! He was literally just completely minding his business and getting his wallet and he shot the shit out of him wtf. As he was backing up from the force of being shot, the trooper was still shooting. Wtf.
Then the trooper was trying to act all nice like don't worry I've got help on the way. You goddamned better have help on the way. Shit, he wouldn't need any help if it wasn't for that stupid motherfucker. And of course, he had been trooper of the year.
I saw it this am How can we push for more/ better police training?? Is there anything more productive than 'write your congressman'?
There was a reverend there at the time it happened and he said he feels it's been handled appropriately (still shouldn't have happened) and it is thanks to the outcries after Michael Brown that this is being handled properly.
I mean, if all these cops are so afraid a driver is going for a gun when they are actually getting their registration or wallet from glove compartment, maybe having that be the standard place to leave those items shouldn't be? I mean, how do you tell someone to show you license (or registration), then shoot them for attempting to retrieve the requested item? It's like a lose/lose.

So damn ridiculous and unnecessary. If he hadn't gotten his license, the policeman could havd said he was disobeying/ disrespecting him and shot him. He goes for his license and gets shot.
His lawyer tried to say the trooper thought he reached for the license in an aggressive way. Exactly how are you supposed to get it. I mean if your license and registration are on the drivers side, you have to reach all the way over. That's not aggressive.
I'm glad he's being charged, and quite honestly am surprised that he is.
So damn ridiculous ad unnecessary. If he hadn't fine did his license, he could say he was disobeying/ disrespecting him. He goes for his license and gets killed.

I don't think he is dead. Unless I misread which I really hope I didn't.
I think if he thought it was aggressive (the way he reached for his license, whatever, I mean come on, right), the initial gun shot to the upper leg could've sufficed, the additional four or five shots as his arms were clearly up in the air (not holding a gun) were ridiculous.

And this is what goes on WITH dash cams.
I didn't mean to write killed. So many have happened that's where your mind goes to.
Whoa this is wicked fucked up. What's slightly different though, (still awful and tragic) is that the police did truly believe he was a threat. That asshole who called 911 and said he was waving it around and pointing it at children and stuff. So the police thought that's what was happening, because why would someone lie I guess right? After the surveillance video came out, the 911 caller admitted to over exaggerating. What the fuck? So this poor young man is dead, as is the 37 year old woman who died of a heart attack trying to get her kids to safety, and this little shit basically caused it all by lying.
A person called 911 and said he was waving it around and had pointed it at multiple children. So in this case the police really thought they were walking into something bad. That 911 caller went on to admit he over exaggerated when he called.

You're right. Before I watched it I assumed he killed him too.

There should be some kind of punishment for this. False report. Inciting a riot (even though it is not a riot, but I am sure people freaked out when they heard the gun fire). Something. That aided in getting this guy killed. Very unfortunate.
Yes, a shopper died of a heart attack when the police started shooting, as she was trying to get her kids to safety, so I wouldn't say riot, but things went bad, very very bad. If that caller hadn't said the things he said, I'm willing to bet the two would be alive. But who knows.
Frankly i am surprised he was arrested. Good on SC in this case at least
Yup. He's been fired and charged with aggravated assault and battery. He could get up tp 20. Public safety director said " the force administered in this case was unwarranted, inconsistent with how our troopers are trained, and clearly in violation of dept policies".
So no leave with pay, and the only one who seems to think he was justified is his lawyer. No one trying to cover it up or sprinkle crack on him.

WTF is going on in the world that police officers feel that they can just shoot people whenever wherever? Following orders is now perceived as a threat? That poor man

The video was shocking. Thx for linking it.
WHICH THE COP ASKED FOR!!! He got shot for following the cop's instructions. What.The.Fuck.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I'm not watching this video. Nope. Don't feel like crying at work today
It still sucks and is awful, but he doesn't die. The video is shocking because the shots just start, like for no reason. I knew what the video was and I still gasped when he started shooting because it was so out of left field.

Sorry, in case it needed stated, my liking of posts was in appreciation of trying to answer my question. Not at all liking of the situation; just to clarify.
If this was a white guy open carrying an assault rifle in Walmart I'm guessing the outcome would have looked much different.
Its an open carry state too. So for those who say the cops couldn't tell it wasn't a real gun: he would have been within his rights to carry a real gun, and the law makes no distinction about how you have to carry the gun.

I'm very glad they're doing something about it. I do have to wonder, though, if they'd be handling it differently if it weren't caught on video.

I think the officer would have lied about it had it not been caught on camera and it would have taken a full on investigation to determine the outcome. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing though.

This is a good point. And you know, I also feel like, thanks to what happened in Ferguson, these kinds of things are actually making the news. Because while it seems like all of a sudden, it's happening all the time, the fact of the matter is that it's been happening at this rate for decades.
While Michael Brown's death was a tragedy, it is heartening to see that perhaps what happened there - and the protests that followed - really did bring into focus for people what is really going on, and brought attention to a much-underreported issue. So perhaps now the more this stuff gets coverage, perhaps the more that will change for the positive.

Why would it be better to not have a dash camera and have a full investigation instead?

Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch using proboards
But the 911 call stated that he was loading it in the store and pointing it at children as they are walking by. I heard there is another video that overlays the 911 call with the video and that you can see he is not doing anything the caller is stating. I cannot fault the police for their response. But I definitely think the 911 caller should be charged with something.
Yeah, I can fault the police. They didn't even get his attention before killing him. He was on the phone chatting and then was like, "Woah, misunderstanding cop...[bam - dead]" That is not good police training either.
