I should clarify that my assumptions are based on a few stories I heard on NPR when discussing Ebola so it may not be accurate for this man, his family, or that part of Liberia. There are a variety of cultures and expectations in these areas so what one community might struggle with may not be a problem for another, I realize this.
They are now saying the family left the apt yesterday after they were told they are to stay inside b/c they are quarantined! Now they have a court ordered quarantine!
I'm not mad. That's what those orders are there for. I've seen it implemented for lesser, but still very serious diseases.

I live like 20 mins away. I am NOT mad! I just cant believe they left after they were told they were in quarantine!

Unfortunately, people do it often when they are quarantined, and that's when you have to get the courts involved. It's not something that's taken lightly and not something agencies really want to do, but the public's health comes first.

We need to make quarantine profitable. Set up a go fund me, donate ipads, xboxes, etc. so for 21 days these people have food, fun, and phones. Lock em down with apple products. Porn for days. Something...

I'm starting to feel kind of feverish. Honey you're going to have to take care of the kids for the next 21 days while I'm in quarantine. Public safety and all that.

I found this board by googling divorce husband help. You guys were on the first page! There is so much more here! I am reading style and beauty and that board is amazing, too. And I'll be starting over soon! It's like a mall for message boards.
My mom shattered her knee cap a few blocks from Grady. She begged the ambulance driver to take her ANYWHERE ELSE. You go to Grady to die.
Ummmm not true at all. You go to Grady if you have Trauma seeing as for a long time it was the only Trauma one hospital in the entire region. frlcb I forget that the other one is. You go there to get stable and THEN you get transferred somewhere else. As a taxpayer in the City of Atlanta I take no issue with my tax dollars going to that place.
I haven't read the rest of this post, but it is Grady and Atlanta Medical Center. You do not go to Grady to die. My husband was taken to Grady when he was in a bicycle accident and had trauma. It is an amazing hospital for what they do - but as soon as he was okay we left and went to Emory.

One of my favorite quotes by a coworker when I first started working here..."You go into Grady with a sprained ankle, you come out with a hysterectomy. Make sure they take you to Emory if you need help."
But yeah, if I'm bleeding out from a trauma wound, then Grady's the first place to go.
Ebola is not treated with the same casualness as malaria. First of all malaria is not transmitted from person to person. Ebola is. Malaria is a common and treatable diseases. Ebola is not. They're light years apart epidemiologically.
Yes, I am aware. My point was the dissociation about the seriousness of the virus. If you thought there was a chance you could die by carrying your landlord's kid - not your own son or daughter - to the hospital, would you? I think not.
I could not sit by and watch my landlord's kid or any other kid laying there dying, unless I had to stay well to care for my own. I just couldn't. I would do my best to put on some personal protective equipment (trashbag, layers of clothing, etc.) and a mask or scarf or something over my nose and mouth and I would get the kid to the hospital.
That said, if I knew the virus was not contagious until you showed symptoms, I'd get on a plane and fly to the U.S. so when the virus was contagious and I needed treatment I'd have a better shot at survival. And I'd make damn sure I didn't leave the hospital didn't release me without a negative ebola test.
I also cannot understand people leaving areas with mass viral outbreaks and not quarantining themselves when they got home. I was in Taiwan for 6 weeks during the peak of the SARS epidemic. I limited interaction with anyone until I had been home a full week. I went to work because I had to, but I worked in a very small office and I restricted myself to my office just to be super extra safe. I took my temperature multiple times a day for the full first week to be sure any elevation of temperature was handled immediately.
I know the general public in Africa probably don't have access to the Google to see what some basic infection control processes area, so I'm not mad that he might not have thought about staying somewhere other than his relative's house. But I *am* mad that the quarantine was not followed when it was issued. I am seriously mad about that.
I wonder if he had experience with a hospital setting. I find the ER overwhelming as fuck for someone who has sat in one regularly. So idk.
this is what I'm thinking. Also he'd seen how they had treated his neighbors/countrymen/whatever in hospitals in Liberia, how was he to know they wouldn't do the same thing here?

You are a far better person than I am. For me, a large part of the reason I wouldn't be selfless is because of the incredibly low survival rate of the disease. Neighbor's kid has chicken pox and I haven't had it? Worth the risk to me to help. Neighbor's kid has ebola? Sorry. I don't have it in me to be a heroine.

I kind of love this!
I'm five pages into a google search using those terms. I've come across Dr Phil, Focus on the Family, fundie message boards, Islamic message boards, no pandce or even the nest. So
I've taken so many cold remedies that my nose is like a bloodhound. I smell some Grade A Bullshit. And not that that it matters in this thread. But it does. Or something. Fuck.
sushi Did you move? I saw a report that there is a suspected case currently at Queens!
He was evaluated, but did not meet the criteria for testing. Scary, though.
I thought, of all places it would take a while to get over here..but I guess I should not be surprised with air travel these days. I am glad it was not Ebola. Not that we should be panicking at this point, but the 10% in me is panicking for no real reason except that it may closer to me

Dude, if you're gonna tell a lie, you should at least check your alibi. I mean that's a big fucking hole, yo.
We are either being catfished or she is really really paranoid about her real handle coming out.
If it's the latter, I'm very sorry for your anxiety. This group does not try to Sherlock someone who comes here seeking anonymous help; if the former, ML is ----------------> that a way. K thanks.

Also, we are CEP. You're not brand new if you're calling this place PCE.
But ditto heyjude that it is an AE, I wouldn't want her ID coming out based on prior threads. However, if you're a regular who forgot to log out of your AE, just say so instead of lying about google! Especially since she's not doing anything shitty under that AE.
