Theresa needs to go to jail. What lesson does it teach her (and her kids) if she's not punished? She needs to be held accountable. Perhaps those 2 years will teach her that she shouldn't live beyond her means by defrauding the federal government.
Also, children aren't a little pack out of jail free cards.[/quote]I never said children were get out of jail free cards, nor do I think that. I do think in this instance that little would be accomplished by Teresa serving time.

It sounds like your argument is since she has kids, and she's a nonviolent offender, she shouldn't serve time.
What it would accomplish is punishing her for her actions and teaching her the long overdue lesson that actions have consequences. Yeesh.

Yeah. Let's take her children away from both of their parents. That'll teach them.
Actually, yes, I do think it would teach both Joe, Theresa, and their kids something about life: accountability and taking responsibility for your actions.
She committed fraud. The feds don't screw around with that, which is why the judge is going to send her to jail. This is a high profile case and yes, they are probably using Joe and Teresa as an example, but at the end of the day, they broke laws and prison is the consequence.

So she shouldn't be punished b/c her kids don't deserve that? I highly doubt they're going to end up in the foster system - where there are plenty of kids that don't deserve THAT.

I'm reading over the charges again. Yep. They're fucked.
I do feel bad for the kids, really and truly. It's a shame that they're going to have both parents in jail, and have to deal with the financial, emotional, and social consequences of that. However, the two people who should be worried most about those kids clearly were not, because they were too busy living the bougie life.
I hope she does get house arrest. I have also heard that if they both get prison sentencing, they may try to get them to serve at different times. I didn't even know that was a possibility (and may not be) but I think I heard it on WWHL or something, I can't recall.
Would normal people get this opportunity? Seems like if you and your husband are found guilty of something and jail is awaiting you, the judge wouldn't give a shit and just toss you both in jail...not put one in and let the other wait it out for the sake of your children.
Hard to say.....they do have a large extended family. I saw that episode with the family photo taken this past winter, looked like at least 50 people were in that shot.

I think there are plenty of parents that have gone to jail when thinking of the children was not a factor. Not saying that's right or wrong, but I don't feel like Juicy and Tre should be any different.
I did roll my eyes at the RH episode where Tre put on a brave face when touring the smaller mansion she would have to "downsize" to.

Weren't they 'downsizing' to 6000 square feet?? OH THE HORROR.
How did Joe not know he wasn't an American Citizen? Isn't that something you'd find out much earlier in life when you're applying for stuff? School or credit cards? No? Jobs? Weird.
Is that dude in front of them their lawyer? Because he looks worried too.
I don't know....
It also says, "Under federal sentencing guidelines, Joe faces a potential sentence of 37 to 46 months and Teresa could get 21 to 27 months"
The judge COULD have been lenient. She could move the sentencing up or down. It sounds like she is sticking to the guidelines in light of all that has come forth about continuing to hide assets.
WHY? would they do that though? It makes no sense at this point to hide jewelry or furniture or cars.

I think so. And in every room he showed, the realtor was all "oh, yeah, this is a lot shittier than where you live now". Lol, and whatever.
I'm going to guess the Daily Mail was taking some artistic license. While I'm sure the judge was stern and probably irritated, I doubted she was yelling at them. that is very rare in federal courts in my experience.

They are liars and haven't learned their lesson. They are trying to protect their dwindling remaining assets outside of the law not realizing the courts have information outside of what they themselves provide. At least that is my speculation.
But they have an ARMY of lawyers and a image consultant and a million and one people working for them. HOW could no one say " Hey guys hiding assets will bite you in the ass and pretty much make jail time for both of you inevitable"
She knowingly committed fraud, for years.. I think she should go to jail b/c... of the law. I don't see what having children has to do being sentenced appropriately based on your crimes.
why not though? that's why thre are courtrooms and cases and judges. b/c there isn't any blanket answer/solution to these things.
i agree with most of what Lucy Honeychurch is saying in this thread (after our mini-head-to-head about vag ultrasounds, lol).
also - can WE PLEASE SEND lindsay lohan or the biebs to jail? how do they keep escaping the big house???
Cali jails are so overcrowded that Lindsay keeps getting by with rehab and probation. I'm surprised she's still alive, TBH.
