I used to buy clothes for her age, but I got tired of seeing her in too-big clothes. When she finially grows into them, it'd be the wrong season. I now buy clothes for her size. My 17 month old is wearing a mix of 6-12 months and 12-18 month clothing.

Yeah I am here. She just turned 2 but most 2t is huge.

Well...(special snowflake). Most of her fall/winter clothes are 24 mos/2T because I bought them a while ago when she was on track for growth. She is still wearing 18-24 month stuff now though. The 2T stuff is a little big, but it will definitely fit over the winter, so I'm ok with that.
I thought I misunderstood the question too. I bought my 2 y/o 2T for the winter. The shirts are fine. The pants are huge. I went and got 24 month ones as well and they are too big but better. 18 mo are high waters on him... But 24 mo, we have to wrap the waistband over. The pants he's in today are 24 mo and will probably slide down him as he's running. You buy for size!
Size. DD is a perfectly average kid and different stuff fits different across brands/seasons whatever. She is 3 and some change and wears a 4T in shirts. Fits great most of the time but still has room to grow. I do buy her pjs in 5Ts though...she hates the too-tightness of them otherwise. She wears a mix of 3T and 4T pants. She's tall but kind of thin and that area so they all fit differently under her chubby little belly..lol.
I generally buy clothing that fits or is a little big so I get more use out of it. I do not find that kids line up with sizes based on their age in any consistent way and so I largely ignore that. My older child has always run a head (e.g. she's almost 5 and wears a size 6) my son wears 2 sizes (4T on top and 3T on the bottom).

Leo is 15 months and still fits in 12 month clothes for the most part. Even though he's small, I've been buying ahead in 24 month size for next summer. It stays hot here until November, so his clothes will just be a little big at the start of the summer.

Same. I didn't have any pants that fit her a few weeks ago on a random cold morning and she wore too big pants to MyGym. They were falling off her butt and people were asking why. I didn't expect my kid to not fit 2T at 20 months, that's why!
Size. I don't buy ahead because DS' growth patterns have been a bit too unpredictable so I never seem to time the seasons right. That said, he's 14 months old (12 months adjusted) and wears a mix of things sizing from 6 months (onesies) to 12 months.

Ds, who is 27 months and maybe 25lbs, still wears some 12 month pants. He's so skinny his 24 month pants fall off even with the cloth diaper booty. Mostly he wears 18 month size (though the waistband needs to be turned down)
Exactly. DS has always been a huge baby and toddler, so of course I kept moving up sizes as he got bigger. He was in 24m clothes when he was 10m old for goodness's sake.
Are you talking about trying to buy ahead? I never got the hang of that.
Size. I always buy a head and use the age as a guide. I would rather have stuff a bit big that she can grow into and get more use out of. I find that all brands are different as far as fit goes. As long as I can get pants with an adjustable waist or elastic I can buy them without her trying them on. She needs 2T for length, but most are too wide for her waist.

this is silly, Kids are not all the same size just like people. Should my 6'7 husband buy regular pants because he shouldn't be wearing talls ... no. Should my size 8 self have to squeeze into 4s? sizing for kids is just that... sizing...
my 19 months old still fits in most of her 6-13 months clothes. All the 18-24 months clothes are too big, so I don't put it on her.
