WTF, who does she report to, the office manager? Go have a talk with her boss, NOW. Just get up and go do it. Let her know that the snarky comments are not appreciated. This girl will continue to treat you this way unless she is talked to. If she does it again get bitchy with her.
If this fails I will send my receptionist down to teach her a few lessons. This is the lady who hides M&M's on my desk because she knows I like them, orders Pumpkin spice coffee because I requested it and stocks the kitchen with Almond milk because I can't have creamer. This girl needs to learn a thing or two about how she is supposed to do HER JOB and support the office. What a bitch!
I'd like to think that if you confronted her about her unprofessional attitude, she might change her tune. Or at least she'll fake it so she doesn't get in trouble.
This girl is jealous of you Farmer. Clear and simple. She also has an issue with being your subordinate and by "knowing more" about shipping she felt superior for one fucking millisecond. Same thing with the bagels. She has a complex and needs to be called out.
Also, Fed Ex and Fed Ex Ground ARE two separate things yes, but she should have arranged a pick up for you the second that box landed on her desk. Because ya know.....that's her fucking job.
THIS 100%, while they maybe two different things a fast call to FedEx will get the package picked up. Also, she probably didn't even know this until the FedEx person came. Do your job rude person!!
She's the one with the problem. I'd wait until the next stupid thing she said and be prepared with a very condescending 'do you need to talk about it' response. Don't do it today or else she'll know you've been stewing about it.
WTF? Oh, farmvillelover, sometimes you have to ask, "What would miso do?" and act accordingly.
(1) Respond with a big, radiant smile and carefree laugh, "No, there is no FedEx class in law school! Glad you're here to handle this! Thanks!"
(2) Be completely nice to her face every single day, and make sure others notice.
(3) Document every rude instance in an e-mail to yourself immediately after the event. Today is Instance #1.
(4) When you reach Instance #5, send a carefully crafted letter or e-mail devoid of emotion, detailing each instance of unprofessional behavior to HR or Rude Receptionist's manager.
(5) Smile while eating a pumpernickel bagel as you watch the consequences unfold.
Never mess with this lawyer. I can build a case against you in my sleep.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and add that she was probably rude to the FedEx guy, too. Because (story time!) back-in-the-day when I was an office manager, our FedEx guy would pick up ground packages as a "courtesy" without me having to call ground if I asked him nicely. My boss was generally an ass and one day the FedEx guy came while I was at lunch and boss was ... well, an ass about the ground package. FedEx guy not only refused our ground packages that day, he never picked one up again, even for me.
Nope, no basic skills taught to me. Just the law....which is why I don't have to sit where you are, taking care of shipping boxes for $10.00 an hour
Don't say that. That's really hurtful. Especially if the other receptionist hears.
I was told that once by a douchebag and it made me feel like shit. I will never forget that phone call. Plus also I made a lot more than that and was filling in but so did the actual receptionist since she had been there for 17 years.

I'm sure you're right. When I trained new hires the first thing, always be nice to the drivers. We interact with them 5 days a week and they are also doing a job, they don't work for you. My UPS driver actually helped locate my missing wedding dress that got lost in shipment. This lady sounds like a PITA.

Plus I have never encountered a rude UPS or FedEx guy. They always say things brightly!

Very true! Except during the busy season but even then they are just rushed not rude.

Ya I have an honours degree and I'm admin. Jobs are hard to find.
Aside from that, she could really like her job and the perks work for her.
She's a bitch, but we don't need to rag on all receptionists and administrators.
I agree. I am an Admin in my current department and have always liked being an Admin. I will also tell you our receptionist makes WAY more than $10.00 an hour.

Thank you. I am so glad you addressed this. When I was the general office Admin, I would drive Fedex ground boxes to Fedex myself.
When I was subbing in at the front desk for the receptionists lunch (we would rotate as backup) and this guy called and said "How would you like to earn your $8 an hour and page Chase for me". He made me feel so so small. I put him through to Chase who was my work husband and Chase bitched him out and never hired them for projects again. You should be careful when you talk to people like that.
