I'm bothered by the number of people who said they don't care but would say no. I hope you realize that if it's legal no one will force you to smoke. If you don't care what others do just vote yes.
I do realize that. Lol. I HATE the smell so that was my tipping factor.

Employers can still screen for it here, even if you have a prescription for it. I hope the reason they can do that is because of federal law, because the idea that you can be discriminated against on the job for being on a prescription medication you are taking legally makes me very mad.
There are lots of circumstances where booze and cigarettes are verboten in my environment. Legal or not, marijuana would be in the same category.
My H can't even take over the counter cold meds 8 hours before a shift, some active ingrediants are part of his screening.
Can't employers make their own rules in regards to alcohol and drug use regardless of laws?
I don't know lol. I have never heard of a for profit company banning alcohol outside of for safety.
A former employer of mine had a policy against getting drunk in public. They also disallowed any alcohol consumption at all when you were on a work trip, even once you'd said goodbye to the customer and were on your way home and weren't going to be driving.
Granted, they'd been having some trouble with some employees showing up drunk to work at customer sites, which is clearly a huge problem, but this always seemed like a dumb way to try to deal with it. Seems like it would have been better to publicize that so-and-so got fired for showing up to work drunk, which, if it ever actually happened, was not ever spoken of.

I don't smoke and never have tried it, but I would (and did in MA) vote for legalization (MA was medical mj but I'd vote for complete legalization & regulation a la CO and WA). But I have gotten it in my head that I want to try ?consumable? pot ... I want to eat some, not smoke it. I cannot imagine I'd actually do it, though.

This is only true if you live in a state that bans smoking in most public places (which fortunately I do). It used to be pretty hard to avoid second hand cigarette smoke...
In your state? Why or why not? I was really surprised you find it that my sister is totally against legalization.
Just curious.
I would vote against it. I am just very anti drug, any drug. I feel as though (not with any real qualifications to feel it) future research may say it's more harmful than we think itis. I also think more people will drive after smoking.
It's not my hill to die on though.
But we can't get good federally funded research until they move it away from being a schedule 1 drug, which it is not.
If you would vote no on legalization of marijuana, would you also vote to ban alcohol? Or tobacco?
Publicly smoking? Yes. In the privacy of your own home? No. Alcohol? No, but someone else's drinking does not affect me. I could get on board with medically marijuana in the privacy of your home, but not publicly. Smoke has an adverse effect on me.

I'd legalize it, but I'd be totally okay with banning smoking of all kinds in public. They still allow smoking in bars down here and it's fucking disgusting.
And I would vote to legalize it. I don't like it, have no interest in it personally. I do think it has some legitimate medical benefits, and would like to see those more thoroughly researched.

I generally hate smoke too, believe it or not. But my edibles don't bother anyone else. And I agree that there should be limits on where people can smoke.

Most people I know who use marijuana either recreationally or medicinally don't smoke it. They either use consumables or vaporize it. And several puffs of pot are gone quickly, if they do smoke it. It isn't the constant smoke of a cigarette.
And to whomever was talking about someone driving under the influence...have you ever been around someone who has been smoking? lOl And there are laws prohibiting the use of drugs while driving in those states where it is legal...ask my idiot friend who just lost his license from it.
I would vote yes. I haven't used it and don't plan to, and I hate smoke and the smell of mj but if it helps to unclog the legal system in a substantial way then go for it.

.
I have no problem with that. Would rather Fed research $ go towards something else.
Okay, now I am just rolling my eyes. The national institute of health and the FDA absolutely need to do clinical trials to learn the actual benefits and risks. Otherwise it is just people assuming the non existent research will show it is more harmful than we think someday.

I admit to knowing nothing about whether marijuana impairs driving or not, so I refrained from commenting.
I have never been around marijuana, but have smelled it at concerts and they were most definitely smoking. Lol.

I have a husband and a mother who both suffer from autoimmune diseases that have symptoms that MJ can ease. I think it should be 100% legal (and subject to the same smoking in public laws as cigarettes) but I think medical should be here already.

I ironically was told by a dr that I would benefit from marijuana. Lol.
See?! LOL
I tried it for insomnia. I was more scared of the pharmaceuticals than pot. It's helped me immensely. There are people with more serious medical issues and I think it should be a legal alternative.
Lol I totally laughed at him, but he said " off the record, but it could totally help you" I do know Montel is a big advocate for it in the MS community.

I'm assuming it adheres to the same rules as cigarettes.
Me too, just pointing out that not everywhere has bans on smoking in public places yet, which may influence people's opinions on legalization where they live. Based on my family medical history, there's a good chance it would be down right dangerous in a lasting and irreversible way for me to use marijuana, so I would be very much against making it legal to smoke in public places.
The study’s lead author, Eduardo Romano, a senior research scientist at the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation, said that once he adjusted for demographics and the presence of alcohol, marijuana did not statistically increase the risk of a crash.
I always wondered about this.
Without implicating myself, I'll say I honestly don't understand people who say that driving while high is ok or not comparable to driving while drinking alcohol.
Even with research, it's really hard for me to believe that marijuana doesn't have any affect on driving.

Yes.
Why: I think it is much less damaging/dangerous than alcohol, money is wasted persecuting and incarcerating users and it has a lot of medical benefits. Oh, and because I like to smoke it, lol.
Eta: in Canada we do not have ballot measures so not possible. Also it is practically legal here anyway.

Right, at concerts. I'm just saying, anecdotally, that those people that I know who use it (and there are a lot) don't generally smoke it anymore.
another thing that I love to see/hear about is the money raised in the areas it is legal. Fuck, I wish my state would legalize it because the money sure looks good for the schools/rehabs/etc. Decriminalize it and we'd be saving a shitton on legal issues as well. It is asinine that it isn't legal. Decrease costs when you aren't making it a criminal offense and increase your revenue when making it legal. I don't know why anyone would oppose it.

And for the record, I don't like using it. I've tried it many times and it doesn't matter what kind I'm using or how I'm using it. I just don't like getting high or coming down. If I could just be high without either of those, I'd be all over using it.
