Are people allowed to visit you at work?

People can visit me, but I work in a university. I have no idea if I can visit H, I guess yes, but I would probably just ask him to meet me at the elevator.

It's generally frowned upon in the new company I work for. My old company was all about the family.

Yes, DH does it all the time. My mom lives really close so she stops by if she has to drop something off, or if she has the kids for the day, she'll bring them to say hi.

Yep. I can also take off for a couple hours to have a long lunch if I want. One of my coworkers brings her baby in if her sitter is sick and we all basically stop work to play with the baby.

Normally people will just bring their guest to the cafeteria and not really work spaces.

You would look like an outlier at my firm if you're here in casual clothes. So it's not common, because a spouse likely wouldn't be in a suit. My husband has been in my office a few times during the work day, but it was the tail end of the day, and typically on a Friday.

Now my husband's brokerage firm does have a casual dress-code, but the culture doesn't really allow for visitors. Not the norm so I never go up during working hours. If we visit him at work, we meet him in the lobby and then walk to the courtyard.

This is the way it is at MH's work.   At my former job I could have visitors, but I worked at the front desk and there was no where really for them to go (no break room).

We can't visit DH at work. You have to pass through three security stations to get there. If I have to go on campus, I have to check in in the parking lot and then wait there for him to come out.

No, it's pretty tough to get in as a visitor anymore. H is always on the road, but I guess I could stop by his job site.

Yes. We've had kids, spouses, dogs, etc. just hanging out up here. DH, sure if I want to make the 4 hour drive.

We're a pretty laid back office, anyone can come and go as they want, or take a long lunch etc. I was lucky enough to go up to the receptionist on the day her husband stopped by with their new puppy

Yea. I work in schools so there's all sorts of people in and out. Everyone has to sign in and they'd prefer that I walk a personal visitor to my office but that's the only hoops to jump through. I don't usually have non-work visitors because there's no reason to have th. I'll meet people for lunch or just wait until 3:30 when I'm off work to see someone. Getting off in the afternoon makes seeing people a lot easier.

My H visits me at work. Sometimes he'll bring me lunch or just drop off something I need. Spouses don't usually come inside, though, unless they're showing off their new baby or something. So mostly spouses visit in the atrium of the building, not inside the actual office.

Yes, DH can visit me at work. Everyone here loves him, he actually has a hard time leaving because our head litigation shareholder will talk to him all day long. We usually visit him every Wednesday evening when he closes his office.

Nope. You need a badge to enter past the lobby of my building. They escort the caterers up and errything! No one can just stop in. You have to escort everyone, these days.

It's generally not a problem at my office, but we have to personally escort the visitor everywhere within our office.

ETA: Half my job takes place in a public forum, so no escorting requirement there.

At our old offices, it wasn't an issue. I work from home 50% of the time, so he's been to my office once (actually, last week). I've worked from his office for a morning and it wasn't a big deal, but he had to escort me everywhere and it was weird.

Yes, but like others, they have to be signed in, be escorted by an employee at all times, and must keep their visitor badge displayed. When my former boss's wife stopped by with their newborn, they made a visitor badge for the baby! LOL

And if you're not a US citizen, you have to have your passport to be signed in and only directors and above can be your escort.

I think so, but it would be kind of unusual. We have security and have to badge in everywhere we go, so it would probably be more hassle than it's worth, especially since I work in a cube so we can't really hang out without bothering others.

Now that I think about it, they could but it would be a big hassle--if they do it properly, i.e., checking in through the office and getting a visitor badge. Otherwise, I don't think our campus is so secure that they couldn't just park in the lot and walk up to my door without question, which is kind of scary.

H works on the same campus, so that's a plus for us.
