DS' language skills are so great these days. Earlier this week he said "That's Katy Perry!" and I said "noooo... that's Taylor Swift" to the song Shake it Off on the radio. So this morning we're pulling out of the garage and the song immeditely comes on (so strange isn't it? Not like it's on the radio every 40 seconds... *-)) and he yells out "that's Taylor SwiPt!" and I said "mmmm hmmmm" and tried not to laugh at his pronunciation.
Then he got a scraped knee last week, and it got infected because he's a boy and gross, probably because he would not stop scratching at it. My dad helped us clean it up ( ) and he needed a band-aid to cover up the spot. My parents happened to have Mickey Mouse band aids so I took a few because I knew he's need to wear a band-aid for a few days while it heals. Last night he kept saying "Where's Mickey Mouse band-aid??? It's in the garage!" and I'm like "what an odd thing to correlate. Why is the garage the home of his band-aids? WEIRD kid." This morning I was strapping him in to his carseat, and on the floorboard of the car, was his Mickey Mouse band-aid. So, technically TWY SENTWA worthy.
Not sure if this is a brag or MOTY, but DS (2.5) can now get the vacuum out of the closet, remove the child safety cover on an outlet (ha!), plug in vacuum, turn it on and vacuum.
I squealed about this over the weekend, but my (15.5 month old) kid is finally taking some steps!
He also now yells "OWWW!" when he pulls my hair, before I have a chance to do it.
He shows you where his nose is when you ask, and his head and belly too. And he's finally signing "more" some of the time. Which makes two signs-he signs milk when he wants his cup and yells "CUPPA CUPPA CUPPA CUPPA CUPPA CUP!" until you give him his cup.
C has this little security blanket, and sometimes he'll hold it over his face until someone says "Where's Colin??" Then he'll pull the blanket down and smile until someone says "there's Colin!!", then he breaks out in uncontrollable laughter.
I LOVE how much DS1 loves DS2. Last night he had a play date with a friend that H was taking him to, and I had just gotten home with DS2. As soon as we walked upstairs, he runs over to DS2 and gives him kisses and says "DS2 I missed you so much!" and starts making faces at him and trying to make him laugh. When I told him he was getting ready to leave for the play date he looked all sad and said "But DS2 just got here. He's going to miss me and I'm going to miss him." I love it.
r has been babbling the "ma" sound for a while, but he's ramped up the intensity of his "mama!" when he clearly wants me. I'm sure it's because I respond with great enthusiasm everytime he "calls for me", but I'll take it
DD (just turned 2 two weeks ago) can count to 13, and is also talking in 6-8 word sentences. She's our first so maybe this is typical, but it just seems amazing to us.
The other day DS1 randomly started saying the alphabet backwards and didn't even have to stop to think about what was next until letter R. I don't even think I could do it that well.

We tried some mittens on A last night to see how she'd handle them, since she hates wearing any hats, socks, or anything that she can take off herself, and she looked at them perplexed for a moment, then proceeded to put one hand in her mouth and pull the mitten off.
We will never be able to keep mittens on her this winter, will we?

A can point out her nose, mouth, foot, ear, and tummy.
And she is picking up a lot more sign language. She knows eat, please, more, and we just added thank you in the last few days.
She says momma and dada consistantly. Lately when I ask her to say "diaper", which she can say, she says "momma". Which I choose to believe is a sign of genius and she's already smart enough to mess with me.
This isn't really intelligence related, but she is so affectionate. Hugs and kisses all the time! It's adorable.
DD's new word is "doggie," which she now says repeatedly to describe everything, including dogs! She also thinks bananas are called "mamas" and tells me so whenever she sees one. She also has this book called The Sounds of Sesame Street with a page about how "Telly's stopwatch goes tick tick tick." She really likes the book and now if I ask her "What sound does Telly's stopwatch make?" anytime, even without the book, she'll start saying, "Tick, tick, tick!" She also makes a "brrrrooom!" sound if I ask her what sound a car makes. Clearly genius

WE just had my DS's kindergarten progress report last week. So far, he can do everything on the "what they will learn in kindergarten by the end of the year" list with the exception of spelling his last name. (star)
Ds1, 2.5, is getting really good at replying using the language of the speaker: "what color is your car?" "red". "ton auto est quel couleur?" "rouge ".
He's also excellent at using his polite words. He says please and thank you (merci) unprompted and throws "Merci 'welcome " in your face if you forget to say thanks.
DS is such a talker - my mom admitted that she doesn't remember my sister and I having anywhere near the same level of communication skills at his age.
He's using 2-3 word phrases and mini sentences, and I've been particularly surprised that he's picked up using "I" properly. "I kick da ball!!" His level of comprehension is also mind-blowing. "DS - is the kitchen dark?" "Ummmm - NO!" *runs into kitchen to turn the lights out*
I don't know that it's that impressive/ahead of average - but it's nice to not have to worry about it.

Somehow DS1 learned to count to 14, which isn't that amazing I guess given that he's two and a half, except that no one has made any effort to teach him numbers. He just randomly picked it up somewhere and started counting things one day.
He also has an impressive throwing arm; he freaks out the other moms at play dates with the force and distance he can manage. Future Little League superstar!
He can name all of his letters and numbers 1-20 on sight, and his vocabulary is insane. In the last week, he's picked up several weird ass words like marmoset, cornucopia, and flashlight.
One time I asked C to give me a high-five, and then asked him to give me "knuckles" afterward. Ever since that one time he goes in for knuckles instead if I ask for a high-five. I'm working on teaching him how to "blow it up" afterward. Lmao.
We bought him a new Lego City set Sunday, so I let him put it together Monday night. After I opened the bags of blocks, he sorted everything into piles by color, opened the instruction booklet, and had the 100 piece set assembled before I finished dinner.
His reading also blows me away. He's obsessed with Spiderman right now and picked out a Level 3 World of Reading Spiderman book over the weekend, then he read it to himself while we drove around running errands. There were only a couple of words that he asked for help on, which just amazes me.
This isn't brag worthy in the sense that I'm sure most kids do it but in the course of a week, C went from struggling to do the circle in shape sorter to playing a game where she races to see how fast she can get them all in. She may or may not be faster than me...
This morning at 4:30 am while we were chatting, lol, DD says "Daddy sleeping?" and I said yes. She replied "We have to whisper inside voices." I was impressed with the complexity of the sentence. She seems to be "getting" the difference between you, me, and we, even though she still says "Mommy hold you", and that's ok because it melts me
Dds favorite is yelling I HELP YOU! When she wants help herself.
She also loves when we pretend to sleep and yelling at us MAMA WAKE UP! SUN IS OUT!
LOL yes, both of these E does too. "Mommy! Help you!" when he wants help, and "Pick you up!" when he wants to be picked up.
DS1 and DS2 both got great reports at their parent teacher conferences last week. DS1's teacher said he is a super hard worker (and a wee bit over-competitive ) and a total math whiz, and she is working to come up with some more challenging work for him. DS2's teacher said he is one of the most kind-hearted kids she has taught. They SO fit the stereotypical birth order profiles--my type A, driven, competitive oldest child, and my peace, love, and understanding middle child. But I am so proud of them both!
My sweet youngest child says all of maybe 5 works at almost 19 months, but he did manage to climb into the laundry room sink a couple days ago, and we still can't figure out how he did it. If a super-human ability to locate and get into dangerous situations counts, then he is my most twy sentwa kid yet .
DS builds trucks and buses with his foam blocks. He puts cylinder blocks on the front for wheels and square blocks for the body. He adds another square block for the "cab" and for a tow truck he put a triangle on the back (and it did actually look like a tow truck. He also pulls out his ukulele and strums it while singing variously identifiable lyrics. His favorite right now is Caspar Babypants "Butterfly Driving a Truck." He gets really into the "flutter, flutter, flutter" lyric and belts out "eighteen wheels!"
DD is only three weeks old but is already lifting and turning her head, studying her hands, focusing on my face, and following toys with her eyes. Next step: Harvard!
The other day I randomly quoted a line from Little Blue Truck and DS stopped what he was doing, went into his room, and brought me that exact book to read! Maybe it sounds dumb but I thought it was amazing!
