So far I have some of those Fisher-Price wheelies (you can get individual ones at Target) and crayons. We'll probably also do some snack-size packs of fruit snacks, cheddar bunnies, etc. I don't know what else. Maybe some nail polish since she loves having her toes painted.
Some things I have done in the past include-- small musical instruments (kazoos), small costume pieces (mustaches, crowns), toothpaste, ornaments, new toothbrushes.

I have: little rockets with a bulb end to shoot them (like tiny stomp rockets) paint with water books Tegu blocks kid sized work gloves (they like to help daddy) magnifier books - Otis books are a new favorite
ETA: small Lego sets, placemats with an outline of the US and individual states and probably a bunch of other stuff because I never learn and shop here and there and end us with way too much.
Stockings for us are usually candy, cash, and underwear. I did buy those snackeeze cups at BB&B and they fit perfectly in the stockings. I can put some candy in there and add a McDonald's gift card and $5 to take to Target.
Play doh, crayons, new Crayola Color Wonder pages I found on clearance, bus & fire truck books with wheels I found in the Target dollar bins, and bubbles so far. I'm sure there will be a few other things as well that I'll pick up here and there.
Hot wheels, nail polish, stickers, bath crayons, fun socks, ornament, candy, hair bows, play jewelry, tattoos, mini slinky, mini packs of Kleenex, character toothbrushes, sunglasses, DVDs,
Finger paints Chalk Cool toothbrushes/toothpaste Fun socks Play Doh DVDs Little People figures Crayons Crayola Color Wonder stuff Slippers Favorite snacks
All I have bought so far is a Cars flashlight I saw while checking out at Home Depot last week. The plan other than that is stickers, a toothbrush, bubbles, a card game, and some sort of snack cup (probably Nutter Butters).
DS (3) will get a headlamp or wind up flashlight, left handed scissors, candy, Chapstick, superman figure, matchbox cars, and socks
DD1 (8) will get magnets, candy, lip glosses, fun pens, birthstone jewelry (fake), socks, maybe a keychain or Something, Pokemon cards, fake nails
DD2(5) will get magnets, dry erase markers, lip glosses, candy, wind up flashlight, socks, fun jewelry, something frozen related, maybe a make up phone like her big sister has that she wants, fake nails (she really wants them And only gets them at Christmas)
J and the girls will be getting small pocket sized books I pick up at the dollar store. These are good to keep in the car or diaper bag for outings. They also have rubber bath ones J likes.
Bubbles and stickers for j, probably some tethers for the girls, crayons or a small craft item for J. Last year J also got some elmo socks from the dollar bin At target. I find good items there.
I might also throw some of J's Thomas trains I picked up on craigslist in there. He is getting a big train set and Thomas trains this year so I will probably wrap the traim set and the talking/battery operated trains I bought but throw the random others I picked up on cl in his stocking.
I do a plastic slinky, bath crayons, new bath squirters, dry erase markers, window markers, a new toothbrush, mardi gras beads.
Has anyone done play silks? I see recs for them all the time, but I'm skeptical that DS would actually play with them. I like the idea though...
I did play silks last year and they have been a big hit. I stuffed them into an old oatmeal container and DS loves pulling them out and stuffing them back in.
I have: little rockets with a bulb end to shoot them (like tiny stomp rockets)
Oooh. I like this idea. Where did you find these? Link if you have one?
I found them at a small independent toy store in my area for about $5. They're similar to the DL Squeeze Rocket or the Rhode Island Novelty foam rocket on Amazon.
