If you moved your kid to a new room or converted it from a nursery to a big kid room, what kind of things did you do? Did you add/remove furniture? Put more toys there?
We are still team crib4lyfe but do have a twin size jenny lind frame that I got last year that I will probably paint this spring/summer so she can use it when the time comes. Her crib does convert to a toddler bed but I anticipate we'll just skip that phase.
We got rid of the crib and added a trundle bed. The glider went and we added more toys. Her room is huge and the rest if our house is not so we store many toys in her room. It's right off the living room so she drags them out to play anyway but can easily be put away. We painted again and got new bedding from pb That I love. Just doing those things made a huge difference. We still have the ugly black out curtains but whatever, the help her sleep.

We moved the glider out. She had a toddler bed but never slept well in it, so now it's a stuffed animal gathering place. We bought her a bigger dresser, set up a bookcase, and got her a full bed (low frame). So right now the room is full bed, bookcase, dresser, stuffed animal area, a little kids' vanity that matches the other furniture, and a kids' sized rocking chair that matches the room set as well.
When I just had 1 kid...we took off the changing table stuff off the dresser, took down crib, bought a mini table & chairs, a toy box...that's all I can remember. Here is the only picture I have access to. It was DD1 taking her first nap ever in her big girl bed. It was so funny I had to take a picture.
We moved the glider to the guest room. The crib converts into a toddler bed. She also has most of her toys in her room. They are mostly in her closet, but the kitchen I made her from a converted entertainment center is out in her room. Everything is still the same. We still have the changing table on the dresser at 3. My husband likes to use it to dress her.
When the other baby comes, we will move her into the guest room. It will have a nightstand, dresser and full bed. I don't know when to move her. I thought of getting her a bedding set for her birthday, but it is a few weeks after the due date. I am not sure how she will like new baby took my room.
C's is still, uh, in transition. We moved the crib and the glider to the nursery. He has a twin mattress on the floor (klassy) until we find a bed frame we like. I also want to put a little chair in the corner where the glider was next to his bookshelf to make a reading nook but for now we just have a big stack of pillows.
Pretty much everything moved to the nursery and we got him a new bedroom set with a full size bed. We read in bed together at night. I can add pics later.

I know a lot of people who did this. Makes it hard to fall out of bed!

Obviously we're still in the nursery, but our furniture is a convertible crib that we will transition to a bed/toddler bed, a dresser with a changing table we'll remove, and a bookshelf we'll likely move. We have a desk in another room that matches the dresser that we'll probably move in when she needs/wants it. But we designed the nursery to be a long-term bedroom for her (walls are light brown with green trim, minimal artwork, etc)

We moved DD to a new room - we figured it was easier to just leave the nursery set up for the new baby and only have to rearrange one room. We got a new furniture set for her, moved her books into the new bookshelf, and put all of her doll accessories in her new room. She didn't have toys in her old room. We made a huge deal over how awesome it was that she was getting a big girl room, and she hasn't questioned why she switched rooms. We'll see if that changes when the baby gets here, but by then she will have been in her new room for 5 months, so hopefully it won't be an issue.

We're going to do this very, very soon. It's honestly a miracle DS still fits in his crib. We're replacing the crib with a twin bed and taking the changing pad off of the dresser. I'll get new curtains to go with the new bedding. I've got a collage of his month pictures on the wall now but I'll probably take that down. I'm looking for some dinosaur decorations for the walls since "Dinosaurs are my favorite thing Mommy!" He's already got a bookcase for his books and toys. Those are the only changes we're making right away.

Besides the bed we have a small bookshelf and an anywhere chair (i find myself using the chair a lot). I figure one she starts school we would get her a desk out something like that, but at 2, I don't see much value in that. She loves birds so we decorated with that theme. I put up several hooks at her level for pjs and whatever else she might want to hang to help encourage neatness. Toys are pretty much all down in the playroom. The nursery was giraffes and other zoo animals.
We bought all new furniture and moved her to a new room so the baby could have the nursery. We are still in the decorating process - its hard to find things for the walls so I'm hoping to continue to randomly come across things! We went gray walls and throw rug for a neutral base.
I climb in bed and read books with her. Also we found the transition went better when we put a gate across her doorway. It keeps her in her room (she can open it if she wants to but rarely does without calling for us first). It also alleviates her anxiety about being alone in the room with the door closed.
DD1 has a full size bed, a long dresser and a chest of drawers. I use 2 single storagepaloozas from Land Of Nod stacked as a nightstand (for DS too). She has 2 Kallax units, for Legos and books.
DS has a twin with a trundle, a bookcase and a chest of drawers. So far he hasn't needed an additional dresser. I need to get shelves for him for lego storage as well.
My girls share a room, with two twin beds, a 2x3 cube storage as a nightstand/bookshelf in between, a dresser and hutch, another tall dresser, and a wide armless chair for reading. We used the chair for bedtime reading when it was just DD1 in there, but since DD2 moved in, we now read in her bed.
They don't have many toys in there – some dolls, a basket of stuffed animals, and a cheapie princess play kitchen (it was a gift, and we already had a nicer kitchen in the playroom). I recently cleared out the floor of their walk-in closet so they could have a place for all of their American Girl stuff, where baby brother can't get to it.
They have blackout curtains which I've never had in the nursery but realized I needed once they could get out of bed by themselves. I have to make it seem like nighttime as long as possible!
At what point did you all take the changing table out? Dd is 2 years 2 months and not potty trained. I expect the dresser will remain as- is for a while...
The plan is to give DD our Queen bed with a new headboard, move a dresser to the corner and keep her bookshelf in there. She gets out queen bed because it will double as a guest bed when my parents visit (DD will "get" to "camp" on the floor in our walk- in closet).
3 bedroom house + frequent house guests make where to put #2 tricky...

Following.
Just started to think about this as we're also #crib4lyfe but I found that bedding the other day. (Side note: should I jump on licensed sale bedding from LoN? Does the sale mean it will be unavailable soon??)
I think we are going to take out the glider, get the full bed frame that matches our dressers (catbus) and take out the double dresser, leave the tall chest. We will probably install a closet system at the same time too since she just has a single rail now.
We moved J to the smaller bedroom when I was pregnant with the girls but we kept the crib and glider, we just updated the decor. Now, this weekend we are swapping out the crib and putting in a full size bed.
We bought him a platform bed that has some underbed storage. The end of the bed has an open storage area we will use for his books. The room is small so we are maximizing storage. We will likely take the glider out but I'm not sure. We still rock him at night while we listen to his lullaby so I'm not sure if we will leave it for now or just transition to listening to the song in his bed. We do plan to have everyone in his bed to read books at night.
When we moved him we changed the decor from the land of nod zoo animal themed stuff to a pb airplane theme. The comforter I bought is more neutral with navy, grey, and lime green so that can grow with him beyond the airplanes. We just have the airplane sheets and some wall decals.
DD wanted butterflies and I found a quilt with purple (her favorite) and green butterflies. So that's how I started with decorating. We bought her a new bedroom set - twin bed with trundle, dresser, and night stand and moved her crib on to DS2. She used it as a toddler bed for a bit (Graco Lauren) mainly because we were still in our old home and she was sharing the nursery with DS1. We did her big girl room right before she turned 3.
As far as other furniture, she has a bookshelf with books and a few bins and that's it. Our bedrooms are pretty tiny in this house. The bins hold her baby dolls, barbies and other small dolls. Her kidkraft dollhouse is in her room to give her something to play with if she'd rather not nap. She still has to be quiet in her room for a bit in the afternoons and I like to give her a bit of a haven away from her little brothers.
We moved the changing table out and replaced it with a dresser. We moved the rocker recliner out and replaced it with a regular rocking chair. When we someday stop sitting with ds1 until he's asleep, we'll replace the chair with a writing desk. We added a big toy box, and of course replaced the crib with a twin bed.
A bookcase and end table have stayed since the beginning.
We haven't done any of this yet, but the plan is to use DD's room and all of the stuff in it (crib, glider, dresser/changing table) for LO #2. We're going to move DD into what's currently the guest room, but I want to get rid of the queen-sized bed and get a twin-sized trundle instead. I'm hoping to find a bed frame that matches the existing dresser so we don't have to buy an entirely new set, but we'll see how successful I am. We have a wooden rocker that's currently in the playroom, and I'll move that up to her room as well. I am not sure what we'll do about a changing table if she's not out of diapers by then; maybe just put the changing pad on the floor in the corner or something, since she's getting a little big to be lifting on/off the dresser anyway.
The only thing I've purchased so far is this bedding set from JC Penney. We're planning to paint the walls either a light aqua or a light yellow to match.
We moved DS out of our (gender neutral) nursery into a big boy room before DD was born. He was only 18m when he moved, so we went with a toddler bed. These pics are from pre-PT and pre-twin bed days. He now has a twin bed, no changing pad, and the little desk has moved to his sister's room. We read books in a bean bag chair or on the floor (we were not comfortable sitting on his toddler bed). Now we read in his twin bed together. He has toys, puzzles, and books in his room.
When DD got to 18m, she stayed in the nursery and we converted the crib to toddler bed. The rocker stayed and is where we read - it has a lock so we don't care if she uses it when she's in there alone. We did add more toys and she already had books. Everything is in the same place as these photos, only the front rail of the crib is different and a little desk is next to the closet door.
From PIP week thread: DS's room (airplane theme)
DD's room (no theme, although starting to add in nautical stuff, but that's not shown in these pics. Started as a gender neutral nursery with white/yellow/orange polka dotted curtains. )
The final layout will depend whether #3 is a boy or a girl, but we are planning to get bunk beds for DS1&2 to replace their toddler bed/crib. There's a bookshelf in there, network dressers, and the changing table.
We moved A to what is technically the hallway to our deck. We brought her to the hardware store and let her pick out a paint color, and then to Target to buy her bedding, which she also picked out. I planned on buying a toddler bed, and found one that matched our crib on our local list serve. We bought her a new bookcase, matching small organizer, and hung her artwork on the walls. The pink box is costumes, and the pink hanging thing is stuffed animals. We read stories on her bed and kept my weaving stool in there so there is a place to sit while she falls asleep.
Soon we are going to move both of them to M's room or buy a new house.
