This is the closest I've gotten to potentially having one of these jerks towed I feel like a bad person
(huh)
(1) I can't believe that you didn't do something the very first time this happened. (2) You are not in the wrong. The person parking there is the bad person.
I've called every time! It takes them forever to get out here. The car owners always get back before the cops show up. I can't call a private company; they won't touch a car on a city street. What else am I supposed to do?
She got here and turned on her flashing lights. This lady from the house with the Christmas lights came out. She's house sitting for the neighbor. Apparently it was her girlfriend's car. I'm kind of pissed that she didn't get towed. She was like, "oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" Then she comes back out with the keys and says, "it's my girlfriend's car. She said 'it was just a small driveway.'"
What was your reply?
I gave her an icy stare and said, "it's still a driveway. You don't get to block it and don't park within 5 feet of my driveway when you move it." and she was like, "Yeah, sorry." The 5 feet thing is a city ordinance, not just me being a bitch.

Provided I had the time, I would drive my car right up to the car and wait (after having called the cops).
When the parker finally returned to the car, I would cuss him or her out.
Or I might just sit there and honk and honk and honk and honk until someone came out, thereby annoying the entire neighborhood.
There are any number of things I would do, none of which include letting the person get away sans consequence or humiliation.

I just want to not have to call parking enforcement every couple of weeks. Is that so much to ask?
I do think she was pretty embarrassed. At least the parking officer was there.
And FWIW, she was parked there for 3 hours. I am not inclined to sit outside for 3 hours. Plus, I had no way of blocking her car, as I couldn't get out of my damn driveway. I may resort to slashing tires next time (not really). At least they'll have to scrape a sticker off the window. DH printed some labels that say something about getting lucky they beat parking enforcement and citing the city ordinance about parking within 5 feet of the driveway.

Why bother with parking enforcement if it takes them ages to get there (3 hours?! I would have died from over seething). Straight up call the police to have them ticket/tow.

A few places near me have a sign that says "active driveway," because people kept getting it confused with the looks like a driveway but isn't a driveway spot across the street. Maybe that would work?
I thought we all told you to plant a No Parking sign.
Am I dreaming?
You did. DH was less than thrilled about the idea of big red sign in our front yard.
Paint the curb red. My neighbors did this and the HOA did it at my old store. It works. At my old store, the city came by and installed signs after we painted the curb red.

I would definitely put up the "no parking" sign, even though it would annoy me to have to do so. People are idiots, but I'm too lazy and tired to have to call the cops to be sure I can get out of my FUCKING DRIVEWAY.

Um, no.
This is unlawful.
Hadn't thought about that, obviously. The president of our HOA is an attorney. I ASSumed he wouldn't do something unlawful.

I live near an "old town" sort of neighborhood where there are lots of little driveways like yours and shops within walking distance. Anyway, I'd say 75% of the houses have some sort of sign saying don't block the driveway. A lot of the signs are cute and unobtrusive, but they seem to work. Just a thought
I'll have to look around and see what I find. I guess I'm just skeptical that something unobtrusive would work for someone who is incapable of seeing that they are parking directly across a driveway. Because, idiots.
Maybe we'll revisit the sign thing tomorrow, @misoangry.

I see tons of signs/posted notices in front of row homes in downtown Charleston, SC warning people about not blocking their driveways.
OP it's time for a sign. Or two. I also think Miso has a good point about backing your car up to the place where it's blocked and lay on the horn.
