There is a house up the street that raises sheep. I want to buy that property. It's 5 minutes from the city yet has enough space for animals and an amazing mountain view.
OMG. I just remembered it was a "cool" thing for people to wear fuzzy slippers to school when I was in HS. I thought it was so weird was this popular anywhere else??

The kids are going to be with their dad and granddad this weekend and I can't wait. Lexi is driving me up the wall and the boys have argued a LOT. Being cooped up in the house has my nerves shot.
The whole vegetarian thing is just like explaining different religions to our kids. We aren't going around saying "these people are WRONG and going to hell" ( well I hope not). You just explain that everyone has different beliefs. We may not agree with them but we respect them. And you explain that in our family this is what mom and dad believe.
Like Henry has been asking questions about hunting. He's a 7 year old boy and very into weaponry, lol. I am VERY anti gun and very anti hunting. My in laws are big game hunters ( they go to Africa and shoot elephants - amongst other things). Henry notices this disconnect and questions it. I just say that I personally think it's cruel. I personally don't think guns are ok to have in the house ( and why). But nana and papa believe other things and we have to respect that. It's ok for people to believe different things. If he asks if he can hunt with them I will tell him not at this age, but when he is a teenager and if he decides he really wants to we can discuss it.
It's all just about modeling the behavior we hope to see in them, teaching them to respect everyone's beliefs, raising independent thinkers, and hope for the best.

We wore boxer shorts to school . As pants. With Doc Martens. WTF were we thinking??

Wait, so dixeedeluxe and @lindy your girls have never seen your DH's penis? Or just never asked what it was in the event that it's happened? No encounters with dog penises that required an explanation?

She's just never asked. She also hasn't asked why women have boobs or anything either.

Oh okay! That makes more sense. I thought you guys were insinuated that they had never even seen one or something. I can get them just not having asked about it yet. I was confused. Haha.

jfh This is a really difficult topic. I only faced it once C1 was in preschool and they would have snacks with meat and her snack would be meatless. She kind of asked me in a sad way why all the other kids had the same snack and she didn't. I, much like you, said that we don't eat meat because we love animals as our friends and so we would rather not eat them. Some people love animals and choose to eat them, but we don't. Whenever she brought it up (infrequently) I just stuck with that.
I can say for certain now, she does not judge her friends/family that do eat meat at all. She'll say "yeah A brought a lunchable with meat in it, maybe I can get one sometime with no meat? Because I'm a vegetarian and she isn't." She doesn't think negatively about people that eat meat. We just tell her it's their family's choice to eat it, and ours not to.
I don't think this is something that, if you aren't a vegetarian and don't feel really strongly about that choice, you can easily relate to or understand from this side of the meat/no meat conversation.
LOL @ dog penis encounters! I try to avoid those at all costs! Well any penis encounter really.
Hahahaha. Well I knew both of them had dogs, so I was just curious if their kid had every said "what's that on doggy's belly?" Maybe my kid is just weird.

I'm very surprised that Madison has not questioned the whole penis issue. She has never seen DH's. He doesn't go to the bathroom in front of her. That's what he is comfortable with so that's cool. I keep inviting her to watch me change Andrew's diaper, thinking she'll ask. She hasn't. She does know that boys stand up to pee. The 2 potty's are in very visible quarters at daycare and 2 kids can go at once so she'll see the boys standing.

I have a female dog so nothing here but Lyla is fully aware of the penis because her big brother is obsessed with his!

C2 was at my sister's house yesterday, and my three year old nephew walked up with no underwear on so that she could help him put them on. She texted me what C2 said:
C2 when she saw his penis: It's yucky! It's a poop. It's supposed to be on the potty!" while giving his penis the stink eye.
I keep going back to popular names for this boy. I want some different but can't find anything I love. I love Henry (DHs grandpas middle name) and Jack (nn for John my dads name). But they are both in the top 50.
Random related question, is it common for Jackson's go by just Jack?

Nope, never. They also never ask about the dogs penises, but my dogs aren't really friendly.

FWIW I also grew up on a farm caring for the animals that were later slaughtered.
I'm just pointing out that it's a different mindset either way. That statement seemed to insinuate only dogs and cats are cared for. I felt the need to clarify that most omnivores are grateful for the life of the animal's life that they are eating and do have compassion for it's life.
I don't know about "most" - I think a lot of people are really disconnected from the food source and don't always even think about it as an animal that was once alive
