Plus we are talking about the CLINTONS! They know more than anyone on the planet what happens to your official records and who may want access to them. They have held more VIP official positions than 99% of the population. Notwithstanding all the BS "gates" they were involved in, the Clinton Presidential Library is something they are both part of because they turned their WH record over to it. They understand archives and records FFS.
I'm also assuming she wanted to be able to use her Blackberry and they couldn't set it up for her to do so efficiently. Maybe she thought if she cc'd an admin on every email she would be prserving the records? I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt but HRC is really intelligent so I'm not buying the "oh golly technology is hard" angle either.
that is bullshit reasoning on her partr. It can get her BlackBerry setup.

I thought I remember some talk in the early part of Obama's presidency about his having to give up the blackberry because it wasn't secure. So Clinton didn't get that memo and switch devices?
I guess what I don't understand about this is why her coworkers didn't say anything about it. Even in my super informal, breezy 6-person company, if I were sending out emails to them for YEARS from my gmail account, I am 100% positive someone would've asked or made a comment about it, ya know?
I am not saying she isn't responsible for the problem - she definitely is - but why were all her coworkers silent on this matter?
Because she's the Secretary of State and one of the most powerful people in the country, possibly the world. Who's going to give her a hard time about it???
Seriously- I see how it is with the head of my agency, who isn't even up there with the Secretary of State. Basically, no one tells her no.
This is interesting. I wonder what it means. So she used a secure e-mail on this network? Because that doesn't seem as bad as gmail account. I hope it is clarified.

It was his iPhone. Govt workers can use Blackberrys (and they're pretty much the only people who do anymore).

We're switching to iPhones and Androids in my agency now! I got an iPhone 6 a month ago and I almost cried with happiness when I got rid of my blackberry.
I'm guessing it's the beginning of the end for the blackberry.
I'm not surprised she didn't have an email address either. My former boss, a senator, didn't use a computer. He's only a few years older than HRC. It just isn't a given that people in that age range use email, especially if they you have been in high ranking positions long enough that they've had other people doing their admin stuff for decades. Obviously she does know how to use email, but I doubt anyone was hounding her to set one up like any other new hire.
I was going to say... This is a problem of the oldz. Not recognizing the importance of separating personal email, or using an official email address.
Yes and no. And I'm not going to let HRC off with this excuse. I've worked for local gov't for well over a decade. You ought to know good and well that your personal and office email are two separate things. If my most difficult elected official can use his gov't email addy, HRC can as well. I don't use my personal email for work related items UNLESS in some severe case where the server has crashed (because our IT dept wasn't shit for a minute) and I can't get a document to a person. Even then, I copy my work email.
I heard about this on my drive in and visibly grimaced because she could have conveniently deleted all of her correspondence on her hotmail account. She wants to run for President and you don't think that this will come up as an issue? *shakes head* Folks are coming for you and you know it. Do right. It's so much easier to do the right thing.

My agency just renewed our blackberry contract, lol. I'll be lucky if we switch before I retire.

This makes me feel better, and would make a lot more sense than Hilary signing up for a free gmail account on her first day on the job:
Of course, Clinton probably wasn't dashing off too many Emoji-filled missives to other world leaders via her Gmail. In fact, it's more likely than not that most of her work was actually done over the ultra-secure (and top secret) JWICS system. That point is being supported by former Department of Defense official Adam Blickstein, who tweeted in support of the former official.
So, secure - possibly even more secure than any .gov system? And (I'm assuming) archive-able. If this is in fact what she did, does this make it better? Or worse?

This would be my first concern--if all classified e-mails were on JWICS and it's just unclassified e-mails she used this account for vs ALL e-mail, then security isn't as much of an issue. But I can't think of any valid reason for her to have done this for unclassified e-mail--and it's the first "story" about her that has raised my eyebrow.
I wonder if it's at least fixable? Deleted emails can be resurrected with enough IT work, if it's a matter of having a nice archive and making sure she's not hiding anything.
I think it's the fact that 1) she had her own email system, and 2) that when asked for the emails her staff scrubbed them, which is troubling to most of us. It's not a matter of whether it can be fixed. It's that it was shady from the jump.

I kind of feel like HRC and Co, including her supporters are trying to gaslight people who think this is a big deal. It is a big deal. Maybe not murder but it's still a "woman, are you high?? Who do you think you are???" moment.
The excuses for it so far are so incredibly flimsy where there are least three issues at play here.
Well yeah, the third issue is that she was appointed by an administration that at least promised total transparency, but was allowed to majorly skirt the issue.
It's more egregious in that Kerry seems to be playing by the book. HC seems to have insisted that she be a special snowflake.
Look, I said in the HRC election thread that I would vote for her, but... I dunno man. This is pretty serious.

I agree. If I had done something like this at state they would fire my ass. So why should she skirt the rules for a reason so asanine? I can't imagine a valid reason why this should be ok. It's not just one time, it's 55,000 e-mails!

This sounds like the most likely of the scenarios. My guess is that it was squashed because she decided she wanted to use her personal email. There is a lot of sheltering that goes on so as to not piss off high level VIPs. IT girl or whoever came in, suggested that she set up her email. Her secretary asks her about it, and Clinton says she wants to use her email for whatever reason. Secretary tells IT guy no fucking way cause he is certainly not telling his boss that she can't have her email the way she wants. IT guy pushes back a bit, secretary says no again, and IT guy drops it cause she has better shit to do then argue with the new SOS and get yelled at by his bosses for pissing off a higher up.
It's still a dumb move on her part, but I can easily envision a scenario where Clinton wasn't really paying attention to the how's or why's or using a particular email, and whether that email could be set up to archive correctly or be encrypted or whatever the hell else was needed.
I agree that it's a shady start. I think she can do some damage control though. I think that what she does and says in response to this will be most telling.

No, no no no no no and no.
Look, I can believe that people in her office had no success with getting her to change, didn't push hard enough because they didn't want to be fired, and let it go far to early and far too easily, fine.
But I do not, cannot, and flat out refuse to believe Hillary didn't get/use government email simply because she didn't understand how important it was or the implications.
Hillary is not new to the world, was not new to the world when she took the position. The only viable explanation here is that for some reason or a variety of reasons, Hillary decided deliberately to use her personal email, in some combination of fuck the world and because of the world.
Now I would need to hear her excuses for why to assign percentages but there is definitely a blend of shady and I do wut I want here.

To coin HBC: no no no no no.
You don't get this high up in politics by having syncophants who are afraid of your shadow. HRC has good people working for her who have been with her since the WH. She has trusted advisors and people who are paid to keep her out of hot water. I refuse to believe this is a case of people too afraid of the VIP to keep her out of legal trouble or worse out of the WH. THIS IS WHY YOU HAVE "PEOPLE" IN POLITICS.
