That asshole didn't go to Spock's funeral for reaaaaaaasons. Some charity event he went to the night before and said he couldn't get back in time. But totes best wishes, guys.
How about I DON'T GIVE A FUCK, JAMES TIBERIUS KIRK!
You see him over here talking like Priceline hasn't been paying him the good money for years? Like there are not Star Trek royalties making it rain in his account every month?
The fuck out of here, you shit bag.
I told someone too that I wouldn't be nearly as upset when Shatner dies as I was when Spock did or as I will be one day when George Takei leaves us and look at him, making me not even feel bad.
That's unfair. So let's say Shatner bails on the charity event and that leaves the Red Cross scrambling to find some to fill his spot with 36 hours notice.... on a WEEKEND.
Shatner is going to get shatnered on regardless of what he chose to do.

I ain't mad at him.
You really think anyone would be mad that Kirk went to Spock's damned funeral instead of a Red Cross charity event where it doesn't even seem like he was the primary draw?
I bet a GoFundMe would have raised the money his absence would have missed.
But honestly, I don't believe he had to skip out on the fundraiser. He could have gone and then caught a flight. Celebrities do those kinds of things all of the time. Red carpet on night, photo call in the morning. But as he told Twitter, flights are expensive and he didn't want to pay. His blase attitude on Twitter about it pisses me off harder than his not going.
It'd certainly be a nice gesture to go, but I just can't get upset about this one. Also there are a lot of people who don't deal well with funerals.
Yeah, I think I'm sort of here. I mean, who's left now? Nichelle, Walter and George? Everyone else is dead. De died over 15 years ago, Jimmy 10, Majel 7....
But I'm feeling rather apathetic about a lot today.
He probably should have found another excuse. Say he emotionally couldn't do it or something. People understand that. I don't go to funerals. But to be like, well, I was third tier draw at this fundraiser and I couldn't miss that to attend my longtime friend's funeral, and also plane tickets be high yo, sounds kinda cold and flippant.
Yes, exactly. His excuses just sound lame. And to be so breezy about it on twitter is just weird.
I think people forget that there is a perception that these men were friends or at least friendly, and Shatner is a "star" of sorts and, so, it reflects badly on him that he didn't attend and couldn't really explain it in a way that didn't sound like, well, I didn't give a fuck really. He didn't have to go, he could have said something like I suggested earlier, folks would have patted his toupee and then this would all be done. Not that it's very important to begin with.
He's on Twitter talking about how friendly they were, how Nimoy was a great uncle to his daughters, etc.
People forget that they didn't just star on a TV show together for a couple of years. We're talking decades of films, conventions, and appearances here.
He absolutely didn't have to go. He just needed to do better than some flimsy excuses that were pretty easy to discount. The Red Cross Ball in South Florida did not need three toupees in attendance to make it worth the $1k per plate they were charging.
Shatner and Nimoy did not like each other. Takei and Shatner don't like each other either. Basically no one from that show likes Shatner.
I'm not at all surprised he didn't go. I think him getting on social media and talking about not going is the only reason anyone knows or cares.
Kirk would go to Spock's funeral (he did). Real world works differently.
He needs new people then, someone who could have given him a better response to that question about not attending than the ones he came up with on his own.
No I completely agree. I'm not saying he handled this well on social media. I'm saying I'm not surprised he didn't go because I know the story of their relationship. He absolutely should have had a better response prepared for the public.
A lot of people would have known the reason because their apathy for each other is well documented but for the sake of publicity he should have had something prepared. There are a lot of people who sincerely thought they were friends and didn't want to know differently. He just made it very obvious.
I'm willing to bet that if roles were reversed Nimoy would have shown for Shatner. Shatner isn't classy.

Yo. You can't keep going on about how awesome dude was on the tweets and then lame out on why you're not attending his funeral. It just makes you (look?) like an ass.
I don't expect Carrie Fisher to show up at anyone's funeral. That heifer is cantankerous as hell.
Watch her do it just to out class Shatner.

Please. If there is one thing she got from her mama, it was Debbie's IDGAF attitude. Carrie won't go and she'll be sure to cop to why even if it's something as amusing as "Harrison Ford ate the last piece of pizza in 1983 and I've never forgiven him for it."
I met Shitner once at some geek convention. His toupee was the same color as his fake tan which was the same color as his blah suit and shirt. He looked like a walnut.
I suppose that image, and his bad Shakespearean over-acting, leaves me with "I'm not shocked." I get the impression he's all about him and is a bit of a diva about it.
