I was wondering this too. It looked like it was an accident but when Rick walked over he pulled something from the lock preventing it from locking. But, it didn't look like Gabriel put anything in it that I would tell unless he did it on the way out. I still don't understand Gabriel, like at all. He walks out to get eaten, then is his normal chicken-shit self, changes his mind and purposely leaves the gate open, for what? Oh, then Gabriel starts crying on the street. Maybe my 3 kids killed more of my brain cells than I thought but what the fuck is his ploy? I am lost.
I think the piece that Rick pulled out was flesh from one of the zombie, It must have grazed the gate coming in.
Gabriel was projecting his guilt over his killing of his flock onto Rick and the rest of them. They came in and took him out of his stupor and he's angry he wasn't allowed to stew in his own guilt. I think he left the gate open, or didn't care that it didn't close, in the hopes AZ would attract the zombies and that way he could prove that Rick and the rest really are crazy and evil, even if it's only to justification to himself.
Ok, that makes sense, thanks. Now that I am thinking back, I remember Rick seeing the blood drops by the door where the zombie grazed it.
Hubs thinks he did it on purpose, or is that just stating the obvious?

I am curious how he decapitated a walker and then smashed its head with a rock but didn't get a drop of blood on his sparkling clean white shirt.

Has it been EDIT *proven* that you can't get the "disease" other than with a bite? Because Rick's mouth was fully open when he split the zombies head open.
I really did like this episode. I think they wrapped up the storylines nicely and did a great job with the symbolism of Gabriel claiming the group were basically animals. The scene with Eugene and Abraham was beautiful. I am glad Rosita dropped the pig-tails and hat; she is a really pretty actress.
I also liked that there was no huge over-the-top death within the group or any major cliffhanger. I am excited to see where the storyline goes to need season.
And, lastly, the one think which drives me fucking crazy is Ricky and the group always saying how much danger they are in and they don't know what they are doing, but, I mean it is almost 2 years from the ZA, like? They have survived this long with the walls they have so I find that point weird and overly used.
Oh, and one last question. Aaron talked about a group that had to vacate Alexandria. I think he said " Dennison (maybe), who he recruited and was very smart but had to drive out 50 miles and let them out. Is the assumption that the Wolves were the vanquished group?
Davidson. In the comics he was the founder of Alexandria (Alexander Davidson). He was exiled for raping the ASZ women. He is more of a legend in the comics.
I don't think he has anything to do with the Wolves, even if they were to change his storyline. The wolf who found the backpack saw the photos of ASZ. If Davidson was a wolf he would already know it existed and have come back.

Everyone already has the zombie virus, so they turn whenever they die no matter the reason (this is from Season 2). But for unknown reasons (aka bad writing) a bite accelerates the process. But you can amputate shit and be okay.

Muck clearly got in his mouth and i wondered the same thing....plus ew.
And good call on the wolves being the banished group.
And while I like Carol and the character has come a long way...how about Glen? He has certainly manned up from the pizza delivery boy (am i imagining this?) that found rick in a bus in atlanta.
And agree with PP on the group fighting off all zombies and there is going to be that one day. Like Beth survived all these things but then accidentially gets shot in the face during the standoff.
If daryl or glenn bite it (ha) it better be an epic herd scene not just some random bite.

Sooooooo. bad writing. Yeah.
I realized after I posted that "just dying" was the other option, LOL. So guess if ingesting zombie fluids is another means of turning zombie, the amputating his head would defeat the purpose of saving him, LOL

Im probably fangirling this way too much, but i think the bite lore has stuck b/c in the beginning of the outbreak, it was the only thing they could "see" that would have caused the infection.
in reality, since you turn when you die either way, getting bitten by something dead and rotting is just not good from a germ perspective. getting nasty, dirty germs in an open wound can never be good, you know?
But then, feasibly, they would have been able to save Bob by cleaning and treating the wound. I mean, he was walking around fine for a couple days, unlike Ty who bled to death from his bite. Surely someone must have tried treating a non-lethal bite at some point when there were still hospitals & civilization. If it worked it the news would be out there.
I just KOKO with my suspension of disbelief to deal. Lol.

Good point, thanks. I guess what made me think this also was Aaron's statement about how they took all their guns, all of them, which I thought referenced Morgan overtaking the two men and finding the gun had no bullets. I wonder then what that was supposed to symbolize.
The problem with Father Gabriel is that they try to make him relevant but no one cares about him because he's an annoying coward. So instead of just killing him off or not adding the character at all, or actually trying to make him more than who he is in the comics, comic fanboy Scott Gimple pushes him in without much effort or thought. He played a slightly relevant role in telling Deanna about the group but I actually think that was totally unnecessary in the tension between the group and the ASZ. But he is completely unable to be redeemed in my eyes because he's been nothing but an annoying crybaby.
Oh and I think what Rick found in the gate thing was zombie flesh/blood. Or something that came off a zombie. As he shut the gate it became clear there was more to shutting the gate than what FG had done because there were two things to shut.
I re-watched a lot of the earlier episodes during the recent season break (shut up), and there were TONS of dead bodies lying around that were clearly dead people, but who weren't turning. Remember Rick leaving the hospital, and there were hundreds of bodies in back of the building?
So at some point, dead bodies turning on their own became a thing. Was that ever explained?

I want to know how he smashed the skull of the one that was just killed and turning, ie not rotted. Didn't you know it's that easy to smash a skull?

I think the show runner tried to say that the people in the cars were dead from head injuries. I thought the the bodies at the hospital were shot in the head?
Also, if the music and strobe lights are all that are needed, they need to find this stuff when they go out and trap many so they can just roam arounda nd get what is needed.

This probably has nothing to do with nothing, but after seeing Morgan fighting at the beginning, my first thought was, Michonne has the same fighting style with her sword.....

I am dying to know what event (referenced in TTD) turned Morgan from a guy on the brink of insanity to a guy who spouts "every life is precious" in the ZA. I was surprised he didn't kill the two "wolves" after they threatened him, but I think the fact that their gun wasn't loaded had a lot to do with it. Is there only 2 or 3 of them? There's an awful lot of W's on walker foreheads if that's the case.
I wonder why Daryl didn't ask Aaron why the group got exiled - I'd sure want to know, if I was the new group.

Maybe seeing Rick that day way back in the last season(?), snapped him out of it. All that time it had just been Morgan, maybe seeing that Rick survived and that he had joined a group gave him "hope".
I was thinking that same thing about the zombies having W on their foreheads. I wonder if the Wolves were attacked and those two guys were only ones who survived and it mentally snapped them.
I rewatched the trailer scene after getting the kids down because it was really bugging me. The walls of the trailers were lined with mattresses.
DO you mean the trap? Maybe sound proofing it so people couldn't hear the zombies on the outside?
Yes, the trap Darryl and Aaron ran into. It bothered me that they wouldn't have heard the walkers inside. Both guys hear a twig break in the woods, I couldn't understand how they could be led into that trap. The mattresses explain why they didn't hear them.
My guess is they are probably going to try and parallel some Native American history but will do it in a lazy way full of plot holes. Basically the only explanation we will get is whatever that guy said to Morgan at the campfire and maybe them claiming they are paralleling a specific tribal history on The Talking Dead.
Then they will wonder why they don't ever get nominated for an Emmy, missing the obvious answer, which is that the show is a bunch of lazy writing and plot holes.
Maybe you should stop watching this show.
That's the plan. I was only sticking around through the end of this season which I think I've said a few times. If I continue to watch in the future (unlikely), I don't plan to watch The Talking Dead or read interviews because those are definitely what send my annoyance over the edge since those are what pushed me to think this show was more than what it is and helped build my expectations.

Def don't watch those. I have seen snippets, but the show isn't that deep, imo. I will still watch, but just because of entertainment. Of course, I may go out of it like Lost in its final season when it just gets too ridiculous.

I think that's truly what ruined my enjoyment of this show. It made me expect and want more, when it's really not that type of show. They may think it is - but it is SO not! lol. I used to follow some TWD related stuff on twitter/instagram, but I unfollowed it all the other day. It was time.
