You make a claim based on "bonding with a newborn"
It's specifically called a "bonding claim"
Which is leglaeze for 'have a new baby I need to adjust to' It's simply a way to phrase it to cover adoptive parents, you're being way too literal here.
I had 6 weeks paid and 6 unpaid when I had my first baby, and I don't recall having to ask my job for permission to move freely around the state/country while on that leave. You know why? Because it was none of their business - nor is it yours. I'd love it If you tattled about this and they laughed in your face, though. Do report back.
What? This is six weeks of paid time for which you must submit a birth certificate and other information to prove there is a baby that you will be "bonding with" It's specifically called a "bonding claim"

FMLA is different. Look at the other link I provided.
This is essentially disability pay.
Under the Family Leave Insurance provision of the New Jersey Temporary Disability Benefits Law, cash benefits may be payable for up to six (6) weeks to bond with a newborn or newly adopted child or to provide care for a seriously ill family member.

And, spending some time away on the beach would have help me significantly with bonding with every member of my family. Recharging my batteries sounds fantastic.
So taking off for a few days negates bonding? Interesting. What if she's gone for two days? Does that mean the other five weeks and five days are worthless? Can you bond if you go to the store alone? Or take an overnight without the baby? I guess I'm wondering what, in your estimable opinion, means one is not bonding per state law.
No, I don't think she's bonding with her baby while on a ten day vacation. But I also don't think there's anything wrong with vacationing without your kid for ten days.
I just thought it was an interesting discussion.
I'm not that invested either way.
And I would never report her to anyone, geeze! Lol

OMG YOU'RE BEING PAID TO BOND WITH THAT BABY!!!!!!
I'm laughing forever at this.
I'm confused who said that?
Bonding is simply the wording used by the state
Then I'm confused as to what is the point of your post. It seems like many of us are reading it the same way and you just keep harping on NJ FMLA verbiage. You seem to care a lot about how this woman spends her "bonding time."

Lol. First I would learn the difference between FMLA and paid leave. Second I would actually read the paperwork I'm pissed about someone filling out fraudulently because I have seen roughly 29000 stacks of FMLA paperwork at my job and zero of them say "this is time you get paid for to be off and bond with your baby."
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."

What if I pee alone? Do I hate my baby? Am I neglecting bonding time?!

You keep missing the point. this leave is to adjust to/recover from adding a baby to the family. Bonding is used because it covers both bio and adoptive parents. Actually being with the child 24/7 is not a requirement, think of it this way what if she developed severe PPD and had to be hospitalized would you judge her being away from the baby then? this trip is a mental health break whether because the first 6 weeks are tough or she is having a hard time so good for her for taking care of herself.
I am judging...myself for not thinking to do this lol!
Honestly, I am impressed she could pull of a vacation sans kid within 6 weeks of birth. Dude at 4 weeks I was still a hormonal bloody, leaking mess, my kid was a screaming colic machine. I couldn't have paid anyone enough to stay with him. I also looked like 6 months pregnant and no f-ing way could I have managed a beach vacation. But sounds like she has it together so good for her!

Is there a time limit on this kind of bonding vacation? I would like the opportunity to be judged. Actually, I think we all should do this, post pictures, and then judge each other.
