It isn't truffles or foie gras. It's just a silly seed.* Either you think it tastes slightly more interesting than couscous or rice or cream of wheat or some other bland boring food or you don't.
I find the quinoa hate pretty self congratulatory. Kind of like the arugula hate last decade.
I don't mind it but it makes me feel a little sick if I eat more than a 1/2 cup. I do like that it can be used in a variety of ways and the fact that it is a non-meat complete protein.
It tastes disgusting and people are smug about it, the same way they were about arugula and kale. It's the food du jour of the hipster.
Really? I honestly like the way it tastes. A lot. I also like kale and we eat that several times a month. Wasn't aware that put us in the hipster category, oh well.

who hates arugula?
I love both. It really has been my choice to be overweight with the excuse of "living in the present".
Honestly, we cook it up in some chicken broth and it's really tasty just like that - nothing else needed. Adding stuff to it jazzes it up and makes it really special! (Yes, I said that)
You should be the quinoa spokesperson. This is really cute.
I've never had quinoa. It's just that eeeeeeeeeeveryone talks about it and how wonderful it is so I was a little surprised at how much it costs given how many speak of it as if it were a staple.
Quinoa is the 'it' grain, therefore it is being shunned. I think Fage yogurt should be shunned next, I'm sick of hearing about it.
also more expensive than regular yogurt lol
I think this is my hang up about all things. I get cranky when people rah rah rah a product and then I find it's more expensive and yet not tasty/awesome enough to justify the higher price.
Although this isn't fair since I've not tasted quinoa lol
Maybe it's the way I'm cooking it, but it usually comes out mushy.
Don't listen to the instructions on the package. I normally use a 1:1 ratio of water to quinoa. Maybe a splash more water. Mine always came out mushy until I stopped putting so much effing water in.
Yep, I cook it with a 1:1 ratio in the rice cooker & it comes out great. It does have a funky odor at first, but then it goes away. I like the taste.
hab: Quinoa (for those who like it) tastes like a slightly nutty couscous which doesn't absorb sauce as well. Like couscous isn't exciting. It is something to put under the interesting stuff. I haven't found it to be so expensive, but we buy it at TJs and I'm not serving everyone a giant ass portion.
