I had a Pinterest type (because I didn't get the idea from Pinterest) fail for dinner. EPIC FAIL. And I may have ruined my Calaphalon paella pan in the process.
I hope your pan is is ok.
did I ever tell you about the time i made a stroganoff recipe that had so much dill in it that it actually tasted like pickles?

YES!! The last time I had a fail, lol. I am making your carnitas in the crock pot overnight. I am making them into frozen burritos.

A bunch of my magazines came, so I'm going to read some. I love my food network and cooking light magazine. It's like getting a new cookbook every month!
Thanks. How is your family after their scary experience?

Thank you for asking.
They're fine physically, just wanting to feel secure. They destroyed the door frame, so they're waiting for that to be approved by insurance to get a new door
Still kind of incredulous at the boldness of the robbers.

We have reclaimed the basement! So many bags of trash, so much cat hair. We took a full truck load of stuff to the dump/salvage place.
Ready for the great furniture shuffle tomorrow! The only hiccup is that my bad ankle decided to give out on me as I stepped out the door with a box of tile, and I bit it pretty hard. All my weight onton my right knee on concrete. it is swollen and I can tell its going to be really awful and stiff when I wake up. And of course my ankle hurts. so sore left ankle, rifht knee. And I was already waddling a bit. Im walking like a drunk sailor at this point. So i was already Going to be useless for lifting hwavy shit. Now I'm REALLY going to be no help.
Oh and shorti was supposed to be with the il's but mil is sick. So she'll be underfoot.
Oh well. I think we'll still get all the major stuff done.
Ugh, why do social media outlets do this? Instagram now limits the photos you see in your feed. If you want a particular person's photos to appear in your feed, you have to turn on notifications. If I follow someone, it's because I want to see their photos! I'm not doing that on all 600+ people/brands/blogs I follow!
This is a huge pet peeve of mine and one of the reasons why I prefer (or did, anyway) instagram to others.
They're starting to roll out advertising to profiles. It seems like platforms start making feeds more selective once they start lining up the advertisers.
Another funny thing is that, the bride and I hardly ever talk. Not due to dislike, we just never see each other. Once a year at family get-togethers (if even that often), and it's most "Hey, what's new, see ya next year" type small talk.
She has apparently appointed me her contact for all things related to the groom's family. She asked me for addresses for 6 different family members. Then asked me how to spell one family member's last name. These two have been together for 10 or 12 years (no exaggeration). We get a Christmas card from them every year. Not that I mind helping, but don't you have this info already? Am I the only one of your fiance's cousins to get a Christmas card? Or isn't this your husband-to-be's job to get this info?
Send her an invoice for your services with a net-180.
Also, I totally had a Friday night wedding in the off-season. Ever since I have preferred night weddings because it usually negates that gap between ceremony and reception, and the party can continue seamlessly to other venues as the hours go on.

Weight loss update: For the first time in... two decades, probably more... I bought an item in a 'regular' store. I've bought stuff at Old Navy, but they go up to XXL and don't really count.
Was at an outlet mall, wandered into Loft. Man, Loft outlets have amazing prices. Tried on size 16 pants (!) and they were just too small on me to justify buying, even with the weight loss still ongoing. But bought a shirt, because it was adorable and it fit. And adorable.
I'll be back to my regularly scheduled secondhand purchasing in a minute... but this was such an important milestone. I know in my head that buying it wasn't just about obtaining the shirt, but commemorating the fact I could wear it.
edit: Second stage of update... I'm going to have a shitton more free time in the fall, and should be to a weight where I'll feel good about adding a more serious workout regime.
I'm thinking of training for a 5K... that it'd be a good goal, to be able to complete one at the age of 47 when doing one at 37 or even 27 would have been completely out of the question.
Anybody do Couch to 5K? Like it, don't... comments, thoughts?
Any hints/tips/websites I should look into to get started?

mominatrix,C25K is an excellent training program. While I haven't done it myself, I know several people who have used it successfully and then moved up to the subsequent higher mileage programs. I think you'd do wonderfully with it. Just go to a LRS and get fitted for shoes.

I will.
I've been walking a lot, and just replaced my shoes; bought them online, though, because running =/= walking.
the problem is that I really like Ryka shoes, and I'm pretty sure that 'serious' running stores scoff at them. they just fit me right.
But, yeah. I'll head to a good store when I start with the running program.

Someone posted on ML about adult coloring books a few days ago and it reminded me someone had gifted me a coloring book for my birthday last year. I thought it was a little weird, put it away and forgot about it. Well, I got it out and colored a page yesterday during boring down time at work. And now I'm obsessed. All I feel like doing is getting my colored pencils out. I feel like the 7 yr old me. It really is oddly satisfying. And finished listening to the audio of The Goldfinch while I was coloring. Fantastic novel, if anyone is looking for a good read. It's long, but an interesting journey that felt worth the time. I liked the audio, because one of the major characters speaks with a Russian/Ukrainian accent and it's nice to hear that in the narration.
Switches shifts with another doc so I could have Wednesday off, which means I'm back to working Sunday. Boo. But excited to get up to the mountains on Wed/Thurs with my family. Now just hoping for a little warm sun while we're up there
Bella and Xander came walking with H and me today, so they're into it.
Problem with this, though, is that what I'm doing is mostly dietary, and it's mostly eliminating sugar/carbs. That's most of their diet, which is OK when you're a kid and growing, not so much when you're a grown up and growing in another direction.
LRS = Local Running Store/Shop. Non-chain good running-shoe place with people who know what they're doing.
Protip: went to one with H when he was prepping to do the Komen 3-Day, and they taught him and me how to lace sneakers with the little loops on the end. Brilliant, that. (it's the first one here, if you want to see)

My kitty seems to be getting a little better. She's no longer hiding, she's moving around more, taking real sips of water, and today for the first time in days we coaxed her into eating!!! We have a vet coming tomorrow to take another look at her, but I feel like she's really turned a corner, and we may be able to avoid having to put her to sleep! Cautious optimism is here.

I have 1 more workout before I've completed c25k. I have an app on my phone & it's been so easy! I was a pretty serious walker before (like, I'd walk 3mi, hike) & was surprised at how well that prepped me. Highly recommend the program!

Congrats on the adorable shirt and the milestone behind it!
I've done a lot of walking and can do distance, but have never been fast. In the past I've gotten to about week 3 of the C25K and hit the wall, multiple times. I'm starting it again this week, and planning to spend two (calendar) weeks on each of the (C25K plan) weeks to see if the gentler ramp-up helps.
