Is swimming not an issue for those that rarely wash their kids' hair? My kids are in a pool multiple times a week in the summer (my oldest almost daily) and in a lake at least a couple days a month. I can't imagine the chlorine build up, not to mention lake water ickiness, that they would have if we only washed their hair every couple weeks, let alone every couple months.
My grandma lived on a lake when I was a kid and used to let us skip baths if we went swimming that day...in the muddy old lake.
Seriously, though, going swimming mitigates smelling like sweat or being covered in dirt, but I worry about the chemicals sitting on their skin and hair. I have vivid childhood memories of kids with green-tinged hair by mid-summer due to chlorine.
My hair always turned green in the summer and we washed it! Light blonde hair and chlorine do not mix. This is another reason I always wash the kids hair right after swimming. J's skin also flares up badly from the chlorine so he gets a shower/bath twice on swim days because I need to make sure all of the chlorine is off of his skin.
Winter - every other day except never Friday nights bc they have Sat AM swim lessons
Summer - pretty much everyday bc we're at the pool or beach daily. The pools are so chlorinated that it would be terrible not to bathe/shower them after. I'm hoping we can get into a routine where we shower and wash hair at the pool and come home in Pjs.

Ohhhh this is genius for weekdays when we go to the pool after work.

The last time we went swimming I was over 40 weeks pregnant. We just don't go very often. Neither my husband or I are really into it. I do intend to go a few times this summer.
He gets a bath almost every night; this includes having his hair washed. If he's too tired or we get home too late and he's nearing a bedtime meltdown, well skip it. But that is pretty rare. We live in the south so it's creaking hot already and DS' DC puts on sunscreen everyday so he needs a scrub down or he smells funny. He also gets completely slathered in baby lotion after his baths. He gets heat rash pretty easily.
It's a fast process. Maybe 10min and it includes having his teeth brushed while he's in there.
Tonight, I watched him rub ice cream from his jaw to his hairline. I cannot have a sugary/sticky boy on my clean sheets!
DS SMELLS after a warm summer day. The stank on his feet alone is enough to clear a room. He gets a bath daily in the summer, about 5 days a week in the winter. Complete with shampoo.
We do do pool baths in the summer occasionally. Quick rinse after and we call it a day.
DD is really liking baths these days, so pretty much every day. Plus with being outside a lot more, we need to scrub off the layer of dirt and sunscreen...
We were definitely bathing her less in the winter - every other day on average.
