Um, ok? They do, when talking about women's athletics.
Radcliffe doesn't even exist anymore.
We drove by an old Radcliffe building on Saturday. I asked H if he knew when it merged with Harvard. He said it was before his time but couldn't tell me when exactly.
I know I'm not adding anything of use to this discussion, but it was a gorgeous ivy covered building.
My point is that nobody says they went to Radcliffe unless they're old ladies, and it's even less likely that anybody would ever ask if somebody went to Radcliffe.

I can tell you. 1999 it was dropped altogether in name on diplomas.

I understand. This is not true when you're talking about sports, particularly women's rowing.

It was not at all clear that you were referencing women's rowing at first. And I'm not surprised people don't know about BC, most people don't know about a lot of colleges. I went to the University of Florida and I've had plenty of people ask me "Oh, which one?" because they don't understand that that is just the name of the school, they think I mean a university in Florida. So I mean yeah, lots of people are ignorant of even large, well-known schools. And Radcliffe isn't particularly large, well-known, or at this point even extant.

Crew and rugby are the only sports that cling to the name.
I said it was funny?? Your questions aren't making sense to me. Why was I fixated on what? What do I think is funny?
Sorry-- not you, specifically, so much as that out of this whole conversation, people are taking issue with Radcliffe.
That aside, you wrote, "Women's rowing at Radcliffe? Lol." Unless you meant "lots of love," I can only assume...
You aren't making any sense.
Unless all these people asking you about Radcliffe are at a master's regatta for women over age 45, it is unexpected that a bunch of people in Seattle are dropping the R bomb when you mention attending college in Boston. Because it is a school that literally no longer exists.

I meant it's not a big deal to the whole world in 2015.
Right. It is not "the whole world" asking me where I went to college (pretty sure no one actually GAF, really). If it's a random person, he or she would say Harvard. If the convo was happening in the context of rowing-- which it often is-- then he'd say Radcliffe.

Multiple times per year, in fact.
Jimminy Christmas. Why the fuck would you exclude this vital context and then act ALLLLLLLLLL bent out of shape when people are surprised that a now non existent school is repeatedly referenced in contemporary conversation, up to and including misconstruing a post so you could take OFFENSE that someone was insulting the storied history of Radcliffe rowing?
As a former rower myself, I say go work out your misplaced anger on the erg.

I didn't think it was vital! Because why the fuck does anyone care? I'm not offended-- I just don't understand why this became such a sticking point. Like, the implication that I'm somehow lying or whatever.

The implication was made because YOU DID NOT PROVIDE ESSENTIAL CONTEXT IN YOUR RESPONSE.

I don't know why you wouldn't just give the benefit of the doubt? Rowing is such a small world. No one else cares. I certainly didn't think ML would care.

I don't think you're lying, I just think it's kind of irrelevant now. I guess unless you're a rower.
I thought Harvard /Radcliffe was irrelevant when I first posted. Lol.
