DH and I have always had a Continental airline miles rewards card which was perfect when we lived in Houston (Continental hub) and were 1200 miles from our families. When we moved back home we switched to an AmEx card with Delta miles (since we're now at a Delta hub), but since we're within 2 hours of family we have very little use for the miles (especially now that we have a newborn). We put everything on our card and pay it off every month, so we have the potential to earn a lot of rewards, however we need to find one that's not airline miles related.
We have the Starwood Amex, a US Airways Mastercard and the Citi Thank You. The MC is for business purposes. We split things pretty evenly between the Starwood and Citi and we spend a lot on them. We always have enough for nights in a hotel (for vacation or I use them when I go visit family). The Citi card has tons of different rewards to pick from. I think the best value is gift cards for retail places which is easy since there's already places I shop but you can also use them for expedia, cash, products, etc.
We had the Brit Air Chase for their 100K mile sign on. We are using the points to go to Mexico next week and have cancelled it for the $95 fee, which is fine, I got what I wanted from it. We have a Amex Blue Sky (no fee) and are redeeming a $200 credit to the statement in about a month. My favorite is the Chase Sapphire Preferred, which had a great sign on bonus and racks up crazy points. You can redeem those points for lots of airlines and hotels.
The main two that we use is American Airlines for the miles and Discover Cash back. We only use Discover on anything that will give at least 2% cash back or more. If you shop online, they have up to 25% cash back at certain places and every quarter they'll do something different like groceries, department store, gas, entertainment, etc, at 5% cash back.
I only have one, Chase Disney card. We like to do a trip to Walt Disney World every other year. The points pay for a decent chunk of the trip each time. I should be more of an adult and get one for airline miles but this one lets me justify the trip each time.
Chase Sapphire Rewards and Amex Gold are my 2 go to rewards cards. The Sapphire gets 2 points per dollar on all travel (hotels, planes, trains, taxis) and all restaurants. The Gold gets 3 points per dollar on all flights and 2 points per dollar on all gas and shipping. I purchase thousands of dollars of stamps her year for work, so it is a big benefit.
Capital One: One of my first credit cards. I pretty much never use it, but it does give me some sort of cash back rewards (which I've always used as statement credits).
AmEx Blue: Another one of my first cards. I earn points, which have a pretty low dollar value, but it's better than nothing. 1 point per dollar spent; 10,000 points generally equal a $100 gift card.
Discover: Generally my favorite. Cash-back card with quarterly bonus categories that earn 5% cash back. For example, April-June was 5% back from restaurants and gas stations. Then in May there was a special promo of 5% back from grocery store purchases. The rewards for each category are capped (e.g., the grocery promo was good for up to $500 of grocery purchases), but still pretty generous. It's my favorite because the cash back is made available really quickly and Discover makes the process very transparent; their website breaks down exactly what I earned in each category. I also love the ShopDiscover.com site, which gives an extra 5% cash back if you use it as a portal to stores such as Gap. (Sometimes Ebates or Mr. Rebates have better percentages, but often ShopDiscover is better.)
Costco TrueEarnings AmEx: 1% cash back on everything, 2% at restaurants, 3% at regular gas stations. I think the cash back amount is higher at Costco gas stations, but now I can't find this info. Anyway, we try to only get gas from Costco, and always use this card there. It makes the gas that's already cheaper than any other station cost even less, effectively. Discover edges this one out because rewards are only distributed semi-annually, I believe, and I don't find the AmEx rewards statement system easy to understand. I've had this card for six months and still haven't actually seen a cash back statement or check.
We have a Citibank Diamond Preferred. It has a lot of great options for gift cards, travel, electronics, etc. I usually just get gift cards (10,000 points is $100 GC).
Hyatt Visa, thanks to recommendations on here. I like that it doesn't have fees internationally and we get one free night a year. Fee is $89 I think. Delta Amex Reserve. If I spend 60k a year, I get 30k MQMs which is enough to get me silver status without ever flying. This year I might make platinum status which would be awesome! Another perk, free access to Delta Skyclub lounges (I can bring two guests) and an annual companion ticket. Fee is $450.

We have two--Starwood AmEx and Chase Sapphire. We use the AmEx as our primary card. You only get one point per dollar spent, but you can get $90 rooms (Aloft) for only 3,000 points, so it's kind of like getting 3 points per dollar.

I just have a UPromise card. I would love to put all of our bills, expenses on it and just pay it every month but I don't see that working out too well. I hope to at least have a few years of books covered for my DD by the time she goes to school.

I'm actually shocked at the number of Amex cards. I hate mine because they require DH and I to have two different card numbers on the same account So if he buys something and needs to return it, whoever returns it (usually me) has to have the card it was purchased on in their possession. Plus, our accounts are separate online so to see his card activity, I have to log into his account separately when I'm doing bills/budget stuff. Annoying.
We have had almost all of them. DH does what is called "credit card churning" signing up for cards for bonuses and then cancelling them when terms are met.
You might want to look at the Chase Freedom card as it is straight cash back on things. We really liked our Chase Sapphire as well.

I have two cash rewards cards.
I LOVE my Discover card, and we use it for most purchases. I especially love the rotating 5% cash back. We generally get about $300 - $400 back every year, but that amount can be greater if you spend it at certain places.
I also have a Fifth Third Mastercard cash rewards card that has 2% cash back on gas and grocery store purchases.
We've got two as well. Chase Freedom for the cash rewards. Sometimes they have good deals on gift certificates as well. The second one is a Citi Dividend card. Its pretty much the same as Chase Freedom, they just have different 5% deals every quarter.
I have the Disney Chase Visa. I put everything on it and pay it off every month, so the points add up pretty fast. And they take forever to expire. We're going to Hawaii for our honeymoon with 3 days in Disneyland on our way home, and the rewards are pretty much paying for the whole Disneyland part.

We use Chase Freedom, and have used the points to get Amazon gift cards at a discount. They have a variety of other gift cards as well as cash back. You can also "pay" for part of your bill using points. For instance, if you have $100 in points, and your bill is $500, you can apply the points to the bill and only pay $400 that month.
You also get 2 free nights at any Hyatt in the world when you sign up and make one purchase, so we got the card, paid the $89 or whatever fee, put $5 on it, and are staying for free for 2 nights at the Grand Hyatt in SF, which is normally $300 or so a night.
We use the Chase Sapphire for everything except Delta tickets and for those we use the Delta Amex.
