Who are his sponsors and where/how does he have the money for a whole team of doctors etc?
I think he has a bunch, but Jaybird and Airbnb are the ones i see most heavily promoted during this thing. he's traveling around in an RV and I guess his family is all staying overnights in Airbnb places.
Yeah, after reading that I'm digging in my heels on thinking that this is a terrible idea. Abd distension plus muscles "shutting down"? This guy's body is literally eating itself. No.
I mean, I hear what you are saying. No one would say that doing 50 ironmans in a row is a particularly healthy thing to do. Of course we all know there is a difference between what is healthy and safe and what is a crazy endurance achievement.
But that doesn't mean people are stupid for attempting epic feats like this - that's what makes them tick, it's what being alive is for some people. No one would say that tightrope walking between the twin towers was a safe thing to do - but holy shit that french dude tight rope walked the twin towers!?! That's amazing (that example brought to you by my discovery that they are remaking Man on a Wire, and I fear that Joseph Gordon Levitt will butcher it). And that kind of shit is really inspiring to lots of people. No, the ironcowboy doesn't inspire me to try to do 50 ironmans, but people like him definitely inspire me to think bigger than I would have thought otherwise. I love it and I'm glad people like this are out there. Im sure his body will recover, or maybe it wont fully recover and this will be the high point of his career, but still it's a pretty bad ass high point.
I don't know how I feel about this. I will say that in general I'm not inspired watching people physically push themselves to the ultimate breaking point to meet a goal.

I think this is where I am. I keep going back & forth. I don't feel inspired, but I did find the information of his journey (on his website) very interesting & I certainly think that it's a crazy & incredible thing to accomplish....so good for him, I guess? Since he's this far, I definitely hope/want to see him make it.
He is doing all of this to combat childhood obesity. But I feel like all the attention he seems to be getting is from other very fit people.
Exactly. The people following him is the group that he doesn't need to reach. As are, I imagine, the people joining him out on course for the 5k run/walk.
