"Hispanics represent one group where Trump's image, perhaps understandably, has soured since his negative comments about Mexican illegal immigrants. Trump's unfavorable ratings among Hispanics rose sharply from 60 percent in May to 81 percent now. His favorable ratings are 13 percent among Hispanics, little changed from the previous survey.
Trump has said his immigration comments would help him win the Latino vote if he were the 2016 GOP nominee. This poll (along with basic logic) suggests that would be nothing shy of a miracle."
"Sanders has gained ground in New Hampshire and Iowa according to some recent statewide polls, but he still trails Clinton by very wide margins in national popularity. Even among his supposed base of liberal Democrats, Clinton's favorable ratings are nearly twice as high as Sanders -- 86 percent favorable for Clinton to 48 percent for Sanders. In fact, Clinton's strongly favorable ratings are equal to Sanders's overall favorable ratings among liberal Democrats."
I have a hard time understanding his supporters. Okay so he says what he thinks and yay for free speech, but does it matter if most of the stuff he says is blatantly false?

Has it ever mattered? These are probably the same people who watch Fox News on the regular and they're hardly a bastion of honesty.

There are a lot of people who like the idea of a non-politician businessman running for POTUS. Even if he's not *that* great as a businessman. And of course, his honesty is apparently a virtue to voters, i.e. "At least he's saying what everyone's thinking!!!1!!111!!!!"
Makes you wonder WTF Carly Fiorina's team is doing wrong if she can't get close to the level of appeal Trump has since she's a non-politician businesswoman too. But I guess it could also be the businesswoman part that makes her less appealling to a few voters.
Also, he is bad news for Chris Christie. I think Trump is the reason Christie is barely making a dent in the race despite being one of America's Darlings not too long ago. Too little too late for Christie.
I posted an article on his surging popularity in the poll thread about who we'd vote for. I don't think the votes for Trump in that poll were jokes. I, for one, am all for it. Should make it easy for the dems if Trump wins the candidacy....I hope.

True, but I think that's what bothers me. Because the people I know that think he's he bees knees are all "he speaks the truth" and I'm like "wut?"
This 6 in 10 number is why the GOP is doomed on a national level. This is not hyperbole. It's in their own 2012 autopsy where they said if they don't reach out to hispanics they will become irrelevant in future national elections. If this is them reaching out to Hispanics...Hasta luego GOP!

Do people think that Donald Trump is a business genius because he's rich? To me, "business genius" would imply that his endeavors have all been successful and that wonderful trickle down theory worked flawlessly! Wasn't his attempt to bring gambling to New Jersey a gigantic flop that lead to a huge piece of beautiful shoreline becoming a sad track of dilapidated, empty hotels?

But he's rich and famous so therefore he's successful.

Part of me truly thinks Trump is just trolling the hell out of the Rs because I don't believe that he fully believes what he's saying. He was just in it to get publicity and make a few waves, and the problem now is that his plan to be a fringe agitator has been blown all to hell because enough of these assclowns are buying what he's selling. That said, I do wonder how much of his current level of support actually stems from people who are less interested in him and more interested in registering their frustration with more mainstream candidates OR who are just supporting that famous no-nonsense TV dude.
Out of curiosity, I looked at his Facebook page to see who of my friends follow him. Now I'm wondering if these people support him politically or are entertained by him as a public figure.. because 8 of my friends like him!!
But now that I've read some of his ramblings, I am tempted to follow him too, it is like watching a trashy reality show. For example: "Failing candidate Hillary Clinton, who is desperately trying to hold on to her lead in the democratic primary against Bernie Sanders, is knowingly putting out lies about my stance on illegal immigration. I said “Mexico is sending”--- I’m not knocking immigration or immigrants, but rather am very critical of the country of Mexico for sending us people that they don’t want. Likewise I am very critical of illegal immigration and the tremendous problems including crime, which it causes. She is desperate, she is sad, and she is obviously very nervous when she has to revert to issues that have already been settled given the absolute accuracy of my statement. She speaks about “my tone” and that’s the problem with our country’s leaders. They are more worried about tone than results! It’s not about being nice--- it’s about being competent. Hillary should spend more time producing her illegally hidden emails and less time trying to obfuscate a statement by me that is totally clear and obviously very much accepted by the public as true. I am honored, however, that she is attacking me, instead of Jeb Bush. Obviously she knows that JEB is no longer her real competition. The last person she wants to face is Donald Trump."

I agree with this. I don't think he has any intention of actually running but was just bored and thought he'd play candidate for a while. Now that he's so successful, I can't help but wonder if he's trying to figure out how to get around the financial disclosure requirements to keep riding this wave.
I'm really curious how this is going to play out. I'm wondering if he will go out in a blaze of glory in an epic fight with the FEC.
Does anyone know the deadline for financial disclosures?
I wonder if this is part of the phenomenon of older immigrants hating newer immigrants that we've previously discussed.
I actually assumed it was more due to name recognition. Trump filed bankruptcy THREE times, he is NOT a relatively successful asshat. His money is due to his daddy being a successful businessman.
Trump personally has never filed for bankruptcy. His companies have filed for bankruptcy though.

I don't know the deadline but I know they can file for an extension and Trump has said he will be fliling w/out an extension this year. (Let's see if that happens). In addition the group that sets the debate rules announced last week that no one can debate if they haven't filed all appropraite forms with FEC. Obviously a clever way to keep Trump off.

Yes, his companies filed three times...under his direction. I think it's laughable that people still think he's relatively successful in business with that type of track record. Meanwhile, Carly Fiorina never drove any company into BK and she doesn't get the same accolades. It's infuriating. I know Trump is a mouthpiece and that is why he is popular but goodness gracious it drives me batty.
I think Trump's strategic use of Chapter 11 is part of why he's considered successful.

I don't think the average voter is going to think of strategically using Chapter 11 as successful. I think the average voter is going to hear that his companies filed for bankruptcy three times and think incompetence. Can it be, absolutely... it can be a very smart move to make, but I don't think it will be received that way by the public when it is inevitably used as a talking point against him.
At this point, I think people know him and his persona from the Apprentice, and so he has decent name recognition, and a take charge take no prisoners attitude. That coupled with not being a Washington insider, and he's getting points. It's early in the game, I'm not worried about a Trump presidency.
