Park and Rec is having a kid carnival this morning so we're heading there around 10. Games and prizes, face painting, bounce house, puppet wagon, food and more. Should be fun. It was originally supposed to be last month but it was rescheduled due to weather. Now it might be raining again but if it's raining they'll move it inside so it wont be canceled.
DD woke up screaming twice last night which is so out of the ordinary. Now I'm tired because of it.
So tired. Need more coffee. I arranged to work a half day, 5 a.m. - 9 a.m. so I could pretty much take the whole day off. I have to take my cat to a consult with an orthopedic surgeon . They told me not to let her eat after midnight so I get to listen to the cats beg for food for the next 4 hours.
After the vet visit, I get to take DD to her afternoon gymnastics class and then take DS to his first flag football practice of the season. Now that the kids are older I often think about how much easier life would be if I didn't work.
What age did you start using a learning tower in the kitchen?
My FIL made the IKEA hacks one for my kids at 16 months and that was a good age to start. They aren't much at helping to cook (though it's harder with two), but they love climbing up and getting to see.
This might be a dumb question but what do you *do* with a learning tower?
DD likes to "help" me prep meals (aka sample veggies as I cut them). She also colors and does crafts there. We took down her booster so now that's where she eats meals too (we eat at the counter).
After much debate, we just decided that DH is going to take L by himself for a few days to his family's joint vacation. It's an 8-hour drive and one big room for 10 people to sleep, plus no fridge, and we just couldn't figure out a way to make all that work with a baby who goes to bed by 7.
Anyway, I decided to take those 2 days off anyway. So I'll send M to DC during the day, pick him up and put him to bed by 7. I'm kinda sad to be away from H and L for that many days while they're doing something fun, but OMG SO MUCH FREEDOM.
Random question - if someone refers to a college student athlete as a redshirted sophomore, does that mean they are in their 3rd year of college? They are not talking about how old the kid was when they stated kindergarten right?
If memory serves me right (2 years as an RA in the athletes dorm) this means the student did not play a sport his first year at the college so that he would have 5 years there academically but still eligible for 4 years of athletic play.
P's first tooth is coming through and she's cuddly and extra sleepy. Poor bug.
Same for C. The first two (of 6) have cut through. He was yawning all day yesterday and I was wondering what was up with that...I guess it's from the teeth (I haven't given him anything because he doesn't seem too bothered by them, just a little extra fussy and clingy)? He's been taking a good afternoon nap and I was hoping it was from finally getting used to the 2-3-4 schedule...hope that it lasts (I actually had to wake him up for swim yesterday...oh, the irony!)!
((hugs)) to P! Hope she feels better soon!
This is our first day (and only day this week) with zero plans. It's supposed to be hot so I'm hoping we can get out for our normal morning walk and then another one after morning nap. It's going to be a long day if we have to stay inside all day.

I want to throw my stapler at one of my co-workers. He is so damn annoying and I just can't tune him out this morning. He never stops talking and it's just stupid random shit about other conversations going on or weird noises or songs. Everyone has a nickname too - Uncle, Brother, some variation of a last name. Ugh!! We are in cubicles so I have nowhere to hide.
There were treats in the break room this morning! I'm going to make myself eat my yogurt and granola for breakfast, but I most definitely took half a lemon bar and half a German chocolate brownie to eat afterward...

We have the easel attachment so it's dual purpose.
She can climb up independently and be at our level in the kitchen. She eats all her snacks there and usually breakfast. She can "help" us with whatever we're doing. We have it against our large island and she does lots of arts and crafts while standing there too. It's our #1 used kid item. More than her crib, carseat and other necessities. It gets used at least 10 times a day. She loves it and so do we.
Job interview day! I have one at 1, H has one (probably not going to work out, but good experience) at 3.
Also, I have made it to round 4 (FINAL!!) of a very intense process, for a HUGE opportunity. But it requires doing a project/presentation, which I am super stressed over. At least I have 2 weeks to prepare.
My mom had been helping me grocery shop almost all summer, wrangling two kids is hard. She went back to work this week (wilted). I sure hope DD likes the lillebaby carrier I just bought! Fingers crossed for no meltdowns today. I CAN DO THIS.
What age did you start using a learning tower in the kitchen?
Around 2.5. He's a big help now at 3.5. He made the eggs all by himself this morning. I supervised and fished out a few broken shell pieces, but that's it.

Do you have a Whole Foods near you? The one near me offers a curbside grocery pick up service for only $5.

19 month old DS loves to help scramble his egg (we crack an egg in a glass and he uses a kid sizes whisk).

What? Baby wanted it.
I shared an office with a pregnant lady once, and our building was just across the street from Dunks. There was a stretch where every. freaking. day. she'd turn to me and say, "the baby wants a coolata," and we'd go to Dunks. One day, I just yelled back "the baby is making me fat!" And then walked to Dunks because, you know, coolata.
B woke up an hour after I finally got him to bed, so I fed him and put him back down. When he started stirring like an hour after that and I hadn't fallen asleep yet, I just burst into tears. Like, hysterically sobbing in my bed. (But as quietly as possible, because, you know.) And then the kid slept 4 more hours. I guess all I need to do is have a nervous breakdown for him to do what he's supposed to do, ha. I'm sure it'll be weeks before he does it again, but man, it felt really good to get more than a half hour of sleep at a time.
I've discovered that my H and I have very different ideas about what parenting a sick child looks like. I just don't think he realizes how painful mouth sores are, especially for a little baby who doesn't understand wtf is going on.
We give money each year to a library in memory of my mother, and they told us they're going to use some of the most recent donation to commission a mural in the children's room. I can't wait to check it out the next time I get back there!
