I wanted to register as a socialist at 18, but it wasn't an option, so I did democrat. I somehow am now registered twice after changing my name when I got married, but I only vote once.

I would prefer to not have a party, but in Maryland you must be registered with a party to vote in a primary. In the city most elections are won or lost in the primary, so it is important that I am a registered Democrat.
Not registered but voted Democratic and have made small contributions to Democratic candidates. Which, as a Montana voter, is a good thing. These are tight races. We currently have a Democratic governor (who had my dad for History in High school!) and 1 Dem senator. The other Senator is a republican and the congressman a republican.
Moving to the conservative side of Washington State. niq, I will do my damndest to hold things up on the east side!
I have definitely voted for the occasional Republican here and there in local elections over the years, but I have been a registered Democrat for 20 years now, and I have never voted anything but Dem in a national election.
I was independent forever, but in my state you have to declare a party if you're managing a polling location. It's weird because your party affiliation has to match the party that received the majority of votes from that specific precinct during that last gubernatorial election.
The lady with the BOE was so nice "honey, just state you're a Republican so that you can keep the job at your precinct." NOPE.
I'm trying to be open minded, but I can't see myself voting for a Republican in any capacity right now. Even at the state/local level.
States are doing incredibly scary stuff to reproductive rights and local officials are wielding too much power choosing not to issue marriage licenses. My county and several surrounding counties (all red) shut down all marriage ceremony services at the courthouses rather than perform them for gay people.
I would and have voted R on the local level before, but I live somewhere where most Rs are moderate. If I lived where you lived, I'd be more cautious about voting R locally.
