Anecdote alert. H is a huge Bernie fan, and besides his socialist ideas his most articulated reason is because "he doesn't talk well." It is precisely the crazy yelling uncle persona that he is drawn to. From what I've seen from others on my FB, this seems to fall into their reasoning as well. And as has been said, it's really not that different from things we hear from Trump supporters.
Everything you hear about Bernie's fan base is that they like him because he doesn't sound like a processed politician. I can respect that, but I also respect that being polished (or processed, if that's how it is perceived) is important on the political stage for the highest elected office.
Basically I'm still a big HRC supporter, but I've gone from wishy-washy on wanting Biden jumping in to now just telling Uncle Joe "We got this! You can relax."
It's not. Lol. Berners are Berners. They replace religion with Bernie.
You know, nearly every post I have read recently from you is like this about people that support Bernie.
Sorry I am such an idiotic burner that can't know his own mind because I am too enamoured with him. I pray to the god of Sanders every night you know, right after Jesus. and etc. Its a little dismissive and insulting. Like me saying "well, all the people on this board are just voting HRC cos she has a vagina". Thats why you are voting for her, right? Just because she is a woman? No other reasons? You just love love love her, its like a religion? You can't think any other way? Blinded by her royal girliness? And etc.
You know I like you Heyjude, but I am beginning to wonder if you didn't have some horrific Bernie related thing happen to you lol.
Anyway, as far as the debate went, I thought Bernie did okay, but my enthusiasm for him was dampened a bit by this debate. I was disappointed with his gun control answer - that was lame. HRC did much better, and I am leaning toward her now, although with the banking stuff she was all "my plan is better than the glass seagull" followed by "because it is" lol.
The Bernie fans are insane in my life. Today someone just called her the next Regan. I mean come fucking on. I only know what I see. And I have a message in my FB inbox right now from a friend who likes Bernie but can't stand his fans. This is not a "heyjude opinion." This is the opinion of many, here and elsewhere.
And I like you too reeve but I know you are not telling me that the only reason a woman can have strong feelings about something because something bad happened to her personally? I know that's not what you are implying.
I've already articulated why I'm voting for HRC and you are welcome to refresh yourself on those points.
That said, Bernie did do well last night and I found a greater respect for him, as I already said. There is something very appealing about him. His followers should be more like him, at least the followers in my life and those I read on comment sections of news articles. Have you seen the bumper sticker "Jesus save me from your followers?" Like that.
Personally, I distinguish between "Berners" and people that just like Bernie Sanders. The latter are just people who came to their decision through normal, rational thought. I have no problem with those people.
The former are the ones that are yelling about how Hilary Clinton is Bush 2.0 and throwing feces when someone tells them that Sanders has a race problem. Those are the ones that are batshit crazy.

Another anecdote from another house divided (like blink).
My DH stomped out of dinner on Monday night b/c I said something about being excited about the debate and he said something very pro Bernie and I turned to him shocked (because he's not that into politics) and said, "Oh, you're a Bernie fan? Really?" I guess I had a "smirk on my face that was condescending" b/c it sent him stomping out of the room with his dinner in hand.
But really, I was just shocked b/c he hasn't said much about Bernie and his only reason he didn't like HRC was because "of all that email lying and deleting." After a long evening where I complained that we should be able to talk politics without one person stomping off and he said "We'll see if my candidate is better than yours in the debate," we left it at that. Then DH didn't even watch the debate with me but kept asking me what was happening from the other room as I giggled, laughed, or hooted.
I remarked as we went to bed that Bernie and HRC did equally well, and that HRC had one bad answer and Bernie had one bad answer. He asked about my mind changing and I said, "Not really, I like and respect Bernie a more, but I am more excited about HRC now also. She appears to be a better world leader and more of a social champion, but Bernie has the financial knowledge." He was the one who said, "A great ticket would be HRC with Bernie for VP to keep her in check with the financials."
I had a nuetral opinion of Bernie fans UNTIL Netroots Nation and the BLM disruption. So reeve if you want to know the "bad thing" that happened to sour me to Berners it was reading ad nauseum that:
- how dare BLM disparage Bernie. He marched with MLK! MLK! - black people will vote for Bernie if they know what's best for them. - BLM is just paid HRC disrupters.
Etc.
I feel like Bernie has scrambled to try to correct this but his fans have not.

I am much more enthusiastic about Hilary after watching the debate. She is a great debater and just shines in that platform, which is what is missing from some of her other campaign interviews.
It's not. Lol. Berners are Berners. They replace religion with Bernie.

Duuude, no. No one here is saying you like Bernie because he has a penis, so don't throw out that we only like Hillary because, Vagina. I have already had that mansplained to me once today by a Berner and I am about to start pushing people out windows.
A "Berner" is NOT a Bernie Supporter. They are the people foaming at the mouth to disparage Hillary, while loving Bernie because he "isn't a politician." They are going to declare Bernie the winner no matter what. I have some Bernie supporter friends who are like, "Hey, they both nailed it!" Then the Berners come in all "HILLARY IS A LYING SACK OF SHIT WHO LOST! BERNIE FOREVER! #feelthebern"
The difference is Bernie doesn't encourage this behavior in his supporters like Trump does.
From this response alone I can tell you are not a Berner. It's okay. Calm down. There are Hillary fans that suck too.
I like both bernie and Hillary but I leaned more towards Hillary before the debate. After the debate I am leaning more bernie. I like what he has to say and I like that he's not funded by big business.
I still think Hillary has a better chance of the presidency. She seems more "presidential". But if I was voting right now, I'd vote Bernie, though I'll be happy to have either of them.
My main beef with bernie was that he was just talking about that one thing the whole time. It's an important thing, very important but I think he could definitely work on expanding his list of "things he cares a lot about" to help his appearance become more "well rounded president" and less "crazy old dude shaking a stick and yelling the same thing over and over".
My main beef with hillary was her skirting around a couple of the important questions with vague answers. Do you support in state free tuition for illegal immigrants or do you not? You would vote no on legalizing marijuana, BUT you also don't want people in jail for marijuana related offences? And you do or you do not want to expand social security? Only for those who "really need it"
Overall I think they both did well, but yes it changed my mind slightly. For now. Much more to go yet!

On phone so forgive quick reply! My comment re Bernie was an ill judged attempt to lighten my previous post. Sorry about that. And maybe i just havent come into contact with any "berners" yet. Fanatacism about pop stars, politicians, sports, god or anything is a big turn off for me. It just seemed out of character the constant dismisal of bernie fans. But i do understand the iritation
I was leaning toward Bernie before the debate, and came out with my mind made up. I was disappointed with Hillary's "performance", and while Bernie's not as practiced or polished as she, and he stumbled a couple of times, he knew the answers and I liked what he said.
Why is "performance" in quotes? Are you saying she wasn't genuine and she's putting on an act?
ETA: This isn't snarky, I just don't get why it's in parentheses and what you didn't like about HRC.
Hmm. This is why I shouldn't post thoughts before coffee sets in.... I know there was a reason I put it in quotes, but can't remember the reason now. Really of course, all of a good debate is a performance.... :^) I'll go back and edit that now.
As for why I didn't care for it: I noticed a couple of times early on that while others were saying things she didn't like, her face looked really pissed off, then before it was her time to talk, she would turn pissed off face into "genuine" smile face. (That use of quotes does mean I thought the smile was an act). I was actually kind of offended at the way she said that how she would be different from Obama is that she's a woman. I mean that's an important thing, and one reason I was excited to vote for her last time, but it's not enough, and I really didn't like the way she did it. I thought she hemmed and hawed too much over questions such as the legalization of pot, and my mouth dropped open when Bernie confronted her with her relationships to Wall Street, and she countered with, I told the bankers to "cut it out". Frankly, I was surprised to see how many people thought she did such a great job.
PS Thanks for the comment that you weren't being snarly. For all my bravado, I can be kind of (overly) sensitive and worried.
ETA: Ummmm, according to CNN's FB poll 75% of formerly undecided voters swung toward Sanders, as a result of tonight's debate. "Sick of the damn emails" (ish, sorry, you know the line!) was decidedly the winning line among them.
lol, I don't believe this for a second.
Bernie leaves me so cold. The debate did nothing to change that.
He's so far short on the charisma-scale, I'm frankly sort of surprised he's a congressmen. But after the American public has shown support for the Trump debacle, I'm no longer counting anything out. Just rocking in the corner & repeating "12&1/2 more months; that's plenty of time..."
The meme depicting the GOP debate as a WWE match and the Dem debate as a Jeopardy show pretty well sums up how I feel about it. I did like O'Malley, but now I really respect him and would be happy with him as POTUS. Honestly I'd be happy with anyone up there. Except for crazycakes Webb.

Is he....serious? Because Bernie has proposed a very large spending plan.
I seriously have not met these "Berners." Must be nice to be Californians and get to participate in the liberal Olympics. ESFheyjude
Oh my god. It's crazy. And it's been crazy since....? April? I don't know. It's been Bernie meme after Bernie meme and anti HRC meme after anti HRC meme all year long.
For me though it first started over a year ago. Maybe two years ago, when my sister* announced Bernie would be the next president after she met him at a conference in Vermont. So maybe I've been hearing about him longer than most. Don't know.
* my sister is not a Berner BTW. She just likes him a lot. But is not obnoxious at all about it. And she likes HRC too,

I live in Oklahoma. Crazy is what people here do. Republican, Democrat, we still attract the crazy. I was serious when I said I had a Berner mansplain to me that I am only a HRC fan because she is female. Then delete and block several people who tried to explain our positions. It was... yeah. And any time I talk gun control and Bernie with a Berner, they somehow turn it into how Hillary is a lying liar who lies and they would rather vote for a Republican. I am sorry, if you think ANY of the Republican candidates are better than Hillary as a self-proclaimed liberal feminist, I am going to think you have at least a bit of subtle misogyny going on there.
God, that would be some mental gymnastics to somehow go from supporting BERNIE SANDERS, the most left candidate since Eugene V. Debs, to somehow voting for a Republican.
If I can't bring myself to vote for Hillary (not saying I won't, but I'm unsure right now), I would vote Green or something else.
Funny story, almost that exact thing happened in 2008 with my crazy father. He was ALL IN for Hillary during the primaries (didn't vote for her because he's a lifelong Republican, but he was sold on her for the general). He was worried about climate change in a big way. But then Obama got the nod. Rather than vote for the black guy, he went for McCain/Palin. He fell down the fox news hole in a big way and is probably a Trump supporter now.
