Now that AW called herself racist and GBCNed, can I ask a naive question?
If a white person wears dreads or cornrows to their professional job, are they negatively co-opting that hairstyle or are they making it more acceptable in a professional setting or both (assume that neither is their goal, but that they just like the hairstyle)? I read the whole thread trying to figure this out if it's ever acceptable for someone who looks white to have dreads or cornrows right now in our culture.
We, with out government school education, just can't appreciate how comprehensive the homechooling experience is, to have a full semester dedicated to the history of hair. Maybe one day she'll come back and teach us all about how the beehive came to be and who was sporting one in the bible.
Slightly related, my cousins were homeschooled for a bit. They're from a teeny tiny island, and the school of all of 30 students with 2 teachers refused to work with my cousin's dyslexia. So, my aunt got some homeschool curriculum, and the reading lessons were things like pulling out chairs for girls with bible quotes to support it. It was so fucking bizarre. Every lesson had some quote to support it.
I said to myself, why would a post on cornrows be 5 pages long? She outdid herself with that. I mean I guess I knew that she could bible thump on any subject, but damn - literally any subject. How fucking tiring is it, to be like that?
It takes dedication to make sure everythingever is rooted in Christianity and nothing else.
Her husband loves her long hair. She loves it, too. But she covers it up so as not to appear vain. Because vanity is a sin. But she keeps it long to make her husband happy.
I don't remember it inspiring lust in others, but I'm open to being corrected. It certainly would be in character for her (or her H)
Oh yeah, it's why she covers up her hair. She has to grow it long for Jesus, but covers it up because it inspires lustful looks from other men.
I can't imagine calf-length hair being sexy at all. Doesn't it get in the way? Does it get wrapped around his penis? Does she end up with stray hairs in her vag? So many questions....

This seriously grosses me out. But I can't stop staring at it. I love long hair within reason and I am super vain about my hair, lol - it looked fabulous yesterday as did my makeup so I took a new pic for my Facebook profile.
There's nothing sexy about hair that long though! It's so flat and weighted down and I am sure she gets a ton of hair shedding everywhere. Clogging the drain. Full of germs and other nastiness.
Like a good southern lady I am a fan of volume. The higher the hair the closer to Jesus. Duh.
White scalp is gross. It's not pretty. Esp when contrasted with really dark hair. No one wants to see that! But when I see the braids on the black women that were posted in this thread, I think it looks nice. Their scalps are pretty.

That IS a good Southern lady!! It's Crystal Gayle!!!
Lol, I know. But damn that hair is wrong and makes me feel ill.
Fyi, I kept thinking she was talking about braiding her calf hair for at least five minutes. I had a whole mental journey about what you'd use to tie off a teeny calf hair braid--embroidery thread? Unwaxed dental floss? Those rubber bands for braces?

Well I know I have been an AW sympathizer, but I did call her out in this thread, so maybe people won't just roll their eyes at my response. But isn't that why all religions that have women cover their hair do it? Because it makes men lustful and they only show their hair to their husbands. I think sfy mentioned before about a Muslim woman coming into the salon to get her hair trimmed and they had to take her to the back where others couldn't see and lust over her hair. This is not just an AW thing.
No it's not an AW thing. It's common in Islam though depending on your specific culture and customs, you may choose whether to cover your hair or not. In Orthodox Judaism, ONLY married woman are required to cover their hair because no other man except their husband should see their hair, but single women don't have to cover their hair at all, so clearly it's not about avoiding tempting men. It's about the relationship between a married woman and man. In Christianity, there are different sects, mostly very conservative and restrictive like Amish, Mennonites, apostolic sects cover their hair. However, some women cover their hair only in services like some Catholic women.
The reasons for covering ones hair are varied and, at least to those outside the various faiths, are often associated with chauvinistic ideologies.

My hair looks terrible today. I walked to work this morning and sweated so much that I had to take all my clothes off the moment I got into my office. It looks like I stuck my finger in a light socket. UGH.
This long hair talk reminds me of a photo I saw in an article recently. These ladies were the Seven Sutherland Sisters. Their father invented a line of hair products to capitalize on their crazy long locks.

my old coworker told me she would take her knee length hair, wrap it around her hand loosely and then tuck that little hair ball into her cleavage when she peed. also she used to close her hair in doors pretty regularly.
