If I was eating at home with my parents I would probably be in my finest sweatshirt and leggings. I'm going to my uncle's so I have a skirt and nice shirt I'm planning on wearing, I need to pretend I look that nice and put together always!
Growing up we would eat Thanksgiving dinner with the nice china in our sweats or PJs.
I don't own any leggings. And my only stretchy/fat pants are PJs.
Maybe a dress and skip the tights? Our apartment is approximately 9 billion degrees.
It will be even hotter with the oven on for hours. I always wind up in a t-shirt at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
We got four inches of snow on Saturday. We slept with one of our bedroom windows open. I also have to leave a window open in the kitchen. After I put on my coat in the morning, there is about a 90-second grace period for me to get outside before I start sweating. It's INSANE.

This year I'm trying. I'm actually wearing skinny jeans (I'll just pop the button open like the class act that I am), with a pink tank, with a really fuzzy pink sweater over that. Long sparkly pink and purple beaded necklace with super-cute earrings (I got all of this at Meijer--if you like that place, Massini is a nice brand. They have cute sweaters, and I also got leggings/tights, too. Good deals on jewelry.), my brown riding boots, full face of makeup. Lavanila deodorant (I really pull out all of the stops, no water buffalo scented hugs for anyone), and some perfume. Fancy.

We always get a bit dressed up. This year, I'm wearing a maxi skirt, button down plaid shirt and belted cardigan w/gold oxfords. The kids will wear dresses with tights and a sweater with a button down most likely.
I will dress up the kids and maybe put on make-up but come on..I don't need to impress my family. We will be eating and drinking and watching football. It does not have to be formal.

Maternity tunic, maternity leggings, boots. My daughter is wearing a sweater dress and tights (she's 2 and likely won't eat anything but the rolls and pie).
My H will be in his uniform: polo shirt and jeans.

I have a new fall colored tunic/drapey shirt, so probably that with ponte pants, mother nature's answer to the leggings/pants dilemma. Look, a button! Obviously these are pants! The IL's house is usually about 90 degrees, so I have to make sure DD is wearing a short sleeved layer or she will be flushed and sweaty.

OMGGGG, THANK YOU! I didn't think of a maxi skirt since I wear mine in the summer. But since it's like fucking spring break in our building, a maxi skirt and a flowy sweater sounds perfect. Stretchy, looks nice, and lets my legs breathe!

It's my first married Christmas and my first Christmas with my husband's family. I asked him what I should wear and he said what you're wearing now (a dress and a cardigan) or you know jeans and a t shirt. Totally not helpful h- there's a world of difference between those two outfits. I settled on leggings and a dressier tunic.

Dressing up is hard when you don't wear shoes in your house, and it's "winter." I guess I could slip around in my tights all evening on our wood floors. I don't really have dress pants outside of work pants.
I'm planning on leggings, a tunic, and a long loose cardigan. With boots and a colorful necklace to make it look more like an outfit. It's really comfortable, somewhat in style, and when I get really full I can wrap my cardigan better so I'm not self conscious about my belly.
Walgreens has $6 leggings. Go buy a pair just for that day!
Usually a dress with tights (not leggings) and a cardigan. Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter are all more formal gatherings at my parents' house. We are all shoes off households so the ladies usually wear slippers inside. It probably looks funny I guess. It's super comfy though.

You assume that winter means cold.
This is true outside our building.
But we are on a high floor, have our radiator valves closed, and still have to open windows so we don't bake in our apartment.

Flip flops have been working just fine for me!
My feet are always freezing, so I prefer to have them covered with socks, which is why I always go the more casual route.

This sounds so fun. I love putting on socks and running/sliding down my hallway and twirling in my dining room. I try to contain it to when I'm home alone, but it doesn't always work out that way. lol
To answer the question, I'll just wear jeans and a sweat to my great aunt's house (my side of family) and then change in to sweats at home (H's side of the family).
Torn between dress and tights or leggings and tunic. I'll probably do the dress, I feel like I need to be somewhat dressed up while still accommodating the inevitable food baby
