I think it was Jay. He knew too many details and his story changed too many times. I don't know if he acted alone, but I think he played a huge role in it.
So now you need to listen to Undisclosed and a Truth and Justice. New episodes every week are posted and Serial barely scratched the surface! How many details do you want to talk about right now?
Get to listening undisclosed. Whatever you think happened, it will certainly change after undisclosed.
Personally, I think at this point that it was some third party we don't know about and the cops fed jay everything he "knows."
ETA: ^ that is more of a guy reaction that a well established theory. However. I do think that the prosecution did really shady things. The timeline of the case is absolutely impossible, the way the cell phone evidence was used is entirely bunk, and the medical evidence is highly suspect with what the state says happened.

Do you listen to Truth and Justice too? They had a profiler give a preliminary profile which pointed to someone who knew her for several reasons. He pointed out that since her body was obviously in one position for several hours and then was in a different position when she was buried whoever killed her waited to dispose of her body. The profiler pointed out that someone who had no known association with her would want to get away from her and the crime scene as soon as possible and wouldn't have been concerned about hiding her body.
I am convinced it's Don, her boyfriend at the time of the murder.

There's more??? Ahh!
I'm going to listen to those today. But what are the new details??

Yes I have listened to T&J and I think BRuff puts too much faith and emphasis on the profile. I think because of the profile he's closed himself off to any other possibility.

Start with Undisclosed. It's three lawyers (one of which is the family friend who brought the case to Sarah's attention for Serial) who look at different aspects of the case.
Truth and Justice is produced by a fire investigator who spins different theories. I didn't listen to most of his early shows but I listen regularly now.

That's a fair point. Do you think it was a random crime or someone she knew?

I am open to both possibilities but I lean towards stranger

Interesting. Don's shady alibi, the changed time cards and his changing story are too much for me.
The time cards are definitely a red flag, for sure. But Don has presumably never done anything illegal since then. It is very strange, IMO, that someone would kill their partner by strangulation and then go on to live a normal life.
I'm so conflicted right now. I can start listening, but I'm going to be doing actual work and I can't focus entirely. I can wait until my run this evening, but that's like 8 HOURS away!!! The struggle is real.

Guess I know what I will be listening to all day now.
heyjude - you need to resurrect your Adnan-did-it discussion.
No ma'am. Nothing gets people fired up quicker than saying "Adnan did it." Last discussion involved someone (you?) saying I must have some personal connection. Lol. No thank you!!!!
Looking forward to the new season though and everyone becoming not only a lawyer but a national security expert!!!!

See I think more people do that than you'd think. There are a lot of unsolved crimes and missing people out there.

Boo I want to hear your theory! I honestly don't know who did it. I wouldn't be surprised to know that Adnan did it, and I wouldn't be surprised to know that he didn't. It is a bizarre case all around.

"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
So did his lawyer, Christina Gutierrez(?), really suck or did she just miscalculate? It sounds to me like she was a pretty shitty lawyer (at least on his case) but I don't know enough about criminal defense strategies to be sure.
I love talking about the case, but man. Nothing makes me eye roll harder than people who are like "I KNOW for 100% fact that THIS is what happened and anyone who thinks differently is ooooooobviously an idiot."
Note: this is not directed to anyone here, just other places on the interwebz.

She dropped multiple balls. She took on WAY too many cases, including a capital case in Puerto Rico at the same time as Adnan's case. She pawned a lot of really important work onto law students. She failed and not just for Adnan.
